Opis:
Correct and stable machining process requires an appropriate cutting tool. In most cases the tool can be selected by using special tool catalogs often available in online version. But in some cases there is a need to design unusual tools, for special treatment, which are not available in tool manufacturers’ catalogs. Proper tool design requires strength and geometric calculations. Moreover, in many cases specific technical documentation is required. By using Computer Aided Design of cutting tools this task can be carried out quickly and with high accuracy. Cutting tool visualization in CAD programs gives a clear overview of the design process. Besides, these programs provide the ability to simulate real machining process. Nowadays, 3D modeling in CAD programs is a fundamental tool for engineers. Therefore, it is important to use them in the education process.

Opis:
Computer animation has a positive effect on memorizing knowledge by students. Used in the process of teaching of technical subjects, it is conductive to the development of mind. Animation allows to familiarize the students with the schemes of solving technical problems and shows the mode of operation of machinery and equipment. In the technique, animations are used, inter alia, in the processes of designing, engineering calculations, visualisation and monitoring technological processes and visualisation of assembly processes. The article discusses the role of computer animation in the teaching process and the examples of applications using computer animation and supporting the teaching process of technical subjects. Selected examples of technical processes in both computer-aided design and manufacturing programs as well as in graphics and animation programs are presented.

Opis:
This study focuses on the development of an interface for gesture control and Boolean operation of 3D objects in 3D computer-aided design (CAD). Although mouse and keyboard have been mainly used as computer input devices, novel computer interfaces are becoming increasingly popular with rapid development of computer technologies. Among several computer interfaces, the gesture interface is well-known as an system operable through the natural human behavior. However, the application to 3D CAD has been scarcely studied so far. From the backgrounds, a simple gesture interface was developed to operate a 3D object in 3D CAD. Leap Motion Controller (LMC) was used as a motion sensor device. A dialog-based graphical user interface (GUI) was also created for the parameter setting. As a result, several operational functions could be successfully executed through various hand-finger motions. Moreover, the system enabled us to experience an intuitive interaction with 3D CAD. Then, the several demonstrations were performed to identify the recognition characteristics of the gesture interface. The differences in the recognition rate were revealed as the results. Especially, it confirmed that a combination of static and dynamic gestures could help to enhance the recognition rate in the gesture interface using LMC. In accordance with the findings, the functions for Boolean operation were also implemented for the manipulation of a 3D object, such as extrusion and hole making.

Opis:
Removal of metal chips is involved in several industrial production processes that machine from casted parts by various operations such as turning, milling and drilling. In addition to the fact that the chips represent a treat to the environment, their storage requires a large surface area. The objective of the project reported in this article is to improve the current layout of a machining workshop aimed at minimizing the material handling cost, increasing operator safety, improving flexibility for operation, minimizing the overall cost and utilizing the available area. The research project focused on the compaction of metal chips briquette for simplicity of storage as well as handling and transportation of metal chips for Hibret Manufacturing and Machine Building Industry (HMMBI) factory. The machining process on CNC lathe and milling machines in this company produces 1500–2000 kg chips/month. An effective design of hydraulic briquette press is carried out by using a solid modelling tool and simulating the hydraulic circuit. The result of the designed machine was observed to address the stated problems of the company.
