Opis:
The paper presents design and manufacturing process of an individualized ankle orthosis using additive manufacturing technologies and reverse engineering. Conventional processes of manufacturing of orthoses are expensive and time consuming Thus, an alternative method was proposed. The patient’s leg was 3D scanned and the orthosis was designed using a CAD system. It was then manufactured using the Fused Deposition Modelling technology, assembled and fully tested. Positive results were obtained.

Opis:
The paper presents a method, developed by the authors, for manufacturing polymer composites with the matrix manufactured in a layered manner (via 3D printing – Fused Deposition Modeling) out of a thermoplastic material. As an example of practical application of this method, functional prototypes are presented, which were used as elements of foundry tooling – patterns for sand molding. In case of manufacturing prototype castings or short series of products, foundries usually cooperate with modeling studios, which produce patterns by conventional, subtractive manufacturing technologies. If patterns have complex shapes, this results in high manufacturing costs and significantly longer time of tooling preparation. The method proposed by the authors allows manufacturing functional prototypes in a short time thanks to utilizing capabilities of additive manufacturing (3D printing) technology. Thanks to using two types of materials simultaneously (ABS combined with chemically hardened resins), the produced prototypes are capable of carrying increased loads. Moreover, the method developed by the authors is characterized by manufacturing costs lower than in the basic technology of Fused Deposition Modeling. During the presented studies, the pattern was produced as a polymer composite and it was used to prepare a mold and a set of metal castings.

This paper describes prototyping of an individualized cosmetic arm prosthesis. Aim of the studies was to obtain an anatomically correct, lightweight prosthesis. It was accomplished using additive manufacturing technology of fused deposition modeling. The data was obtained by 3D scanning. An experimental concept of dual extrusion of two different materials was applied – the prosthesis was divided into an elastic shell and a rigid core, manufactured in one process. Obtained results were positive.

Opis:
Additive processes allow for almost any manufacturing of screw-threaded joint elements. However, this requires knowledge of the geometrical relationships of a threaded itself and the strength of materials from which the screw-threaded joint is made. Thanks to the development of research models and conducting tests related to dimensional accuracy and surface roughness, it was possible to test the models made by MEX process of ABS-M30, PLA, ABS, PETG materials, and PolyJet process from RGD720 polymer material. In the case of measurements carried out on the MarSurf XC20 system, the internal and external thread profile was obtained.Measurements of the surface roughness of the printed models were made using the Taylor Hobson TalyScan 150 profilometer. Based on the obtained surface, following the ISO 25178-2 standard, selected parameters were determined.

This paper presents the assessment of the rapid prototyping finishing techniques for printed components. The aim of the study was to compare the element printed with FDM technology before and after the treatment, using 3D scanning techniques. The object was scanned right after manufacturing, then it was subjected to finishing treatment and 3D-scanned again. The assessment of the results was performed using the GOM Inspect software, based on a comparison between scans and nominal model.

Opis:
The article presents selected issues related to the process of turning samples made of the AlSi10Mg alloy with the use of various manufacturing technologies, i.e. casting and DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering). Machining processes of cylindrical surfaces of samples made with these two methods were subjected to a comparative analysis. The main idea behind the research was to develop guidelines for turning parts obtained using laser powder sintering. Study on the influence of cutting parameters on the value of breakability index Cin. as well as the type, shape and form of chips produced during longitudinal turning is presented. The chips were also measured and the results of the microscopic analysis of the chips form are described. Results showed that the values of Cin index for turning of the cast AlSi10MG alloy depend mainly on the value of feed f. According to adopted chip classification for the feed value of f > 0.1 mm/rev the chips had a favorable, short form. In the case of turning the sample obtained by the DMLS method, the values of the chip breakability index Cin are not significantly dependent on the adopted ranges of cutting parameters. The Taguchi method was used to develop the conclusions obtained on the basis of the research results.

Opis:
The publication covers the complex process of analyzing the accuracy of mapping models produced in AM (Additive Manufacturing) processes with a thermoplastic material – FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication) and polymerization of light-curing resin – PolyJet. The research was conducted with the use of an advanced optical measuring system – the GOM Atos 3D scanner. The part selected for the research in question was the water pump body as a representative example of an element with adequate dimensional and shape conditions (high degree of folding and geometric differentiation) allowing, based on the results of coordinate measurements determined in the research process, to define the potential area of application of AM models made of thermoplastic material and resin hardened with UV light. The performed tests showed the accuracy of individual AM methods at a level within the range declared by machine manufacturers. However, the PolyJet body is characterized by a much higher accuracy of the shape mapping compared to the FFF body. The dimensional accuracy is also higher for the resin model in relation to the thermoplastic model, which results primarily from the thickness of the elementary layer of the model material applied by the printing module defined for individual incremental processes – 16 μm for RGD 720 and 0.2 mm for ABS. Detailed elaboration and analysis of the research results are presented in this publication.

Inter-operational surgery supplies manufactured additively using the FDM (Fused Deposition Modelling) technology are required to be sterilized before use. After manufacturing, the part should be sterilized using one of commonly used processes, without losing its dimensions and shape. Opis:
The purpose of the undertaken research work is to analyze the torsional strength of standard samples with a circular cross-section, produced additively using the SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) technique – sintering PA2200 polyamide powders. The studies conducted so far have not included a static torsion test, the results of which are crucial for parts such as machine shafts, hubs, couplings, etc. Hence the idea of conducting the research in question. The samples were made in different settings relative to the machine's working platform and subjected to post-processing in two variants – by water-soaking and furnace-heating – in order to determine the influence of the orientation of the model in the manufacturing process and the type of post-processing on torsional strength. The produced samples were additionally subjected to a preliminary dimensional and shape verification due to the significant impact of the accuracy of the models in the SLS process on the operation of the above-mentioned machine parts. Based on the analysis of the test results, it was found that the highest torsional strength was determined for the furnace-heated samples. In addition, the highest mapping accuracy was found for models positioned vertically in relation to the machine's working platform.

The paper presents the experimental process of manufacturing individualized prosthetic sockets out of thermoplas‑ tic material, using an additive manufacturing technology of Fused Deposition Modelling. The patient was an adult male with an amputated forearm. His stump was 3D scanned using a low‑cost 3D scanner in a semi‑automated manner. Then, the anthropometric data was used for the creation of a model of a prosthetic socket, which was subsequently manufactured. Three different 3D printers were used, with three different materials (ABS, nylon and PC) and three different sets of process parameters. The paper contains the descriptions of the process, its results and opinions by the patient, leading to the selection of an optimal process course variant.
