- Territorial divisions of the Głogów duchy contributed to increasing the role of Kożuchów as the main city in the region at the end of the 14th century. Henryk VIII (called ‘Wróbel’, in English: Sparrow) decided to make the city and the castle his residence. After the death of the duke at the tournament in Legnica in 1397 (buried in Żagań), his wife Katarzyna Opolska (died in 1397) ruled the duchy on behalf of her minor children. On coming of age, Henryk VIII’ sons took over Kożuchów’s heritage; first Henryk IX (died in 1467) and then Henryk XI (died in 1476), who is the last one from the Piast line we are interested in. By tradition, the three of them (mother and two sons) were to be buried in the mansionary chapel, which was a mausoleum of the Głogów dukes, who had patronage on the foundation. The church was seriously damaged by the great fire in 1637. The reconstruction of the church by the parish priest Schmalandt in the 1650s and 1660s resulted in completely erasing traces of the medieval burials of the dukes. Five seasons of the search for the graves of the last Głogów Piasts (2009, 2010, 2015, 2017, 2018), both in the mansionary chapel and in the chancel of the church did not confirm or reject the thesis about their presence in the premises of the parish church in Kożuchów. The research will be continued.
