Opis:
Lathyrus aphaca, which is in Poland considered to be an ephemerophyte recorded mainly in the north-west and the south-west, has lately been observed in arable fields in the south of the country. Recent and historical data on the distribution of the taxon in Poland are presented. Original relevés conducted in arable fields in Poland are analysed and compared to those from the Czech Republic, Germany and Slovenia. The current status of L. aphaca in the Polish flora is discussed.

Opis:
Open and species-poor stands with a dominance of Alisma lanceolatum were recorded in periodically flooded habitats of the southern part of central Slovakia (Ipel' River catchment area) during the summer of 2013. Phytosociological relevés correspond to the association Eleocharito palustris-Alismatetum lanceolati (alliance Eleocharito palustris-Sagittarion sagittifoliae), which is reported and documented here for the first time from the territory of Slovakia. It inhabits predominantly temporarily flooded depressions on agricultural land - wet arable fields and extensively used pastures. Detrended correspondence analysis showed that the variability in species composition was most significantly influenced by water depth, the presence of arable fields in the contact area and water conductivity. Special attention was paid to a detailed description of the floristic composition, habitat requirements, distribution patterns and nomenclature of the community.

Opis:
Nymphaeion alliance vegetation is dominant floating-leaved vegetation in the Danube–Tisza–Danube hydrosystem in northwestern Serbia and comprises Nymphaeetum albae, Nymphaeetum albo-luteae, Nymphoidetum peltatae and Trapetum natantis associations. Comparative analysis of physical-chemical water parameters on localities where these – in most parts of Europe endangered and vulnerable stands – develop showed that most phytocenoses are associated with specific habitat conditions. Of the analyzed water properties, the factors that cause Nymphaeion alliance phytocenoses differentiation are primarily pH, alkalinity and COD-MnO4. Formation of the Nymphaeetum albae stands is significantly associated with the highest values of pH, COD-MnO4 and alkalinity, and the lowest nitrate, nitrite, dissolved and the total phosphorus content values, in comparison to the other studied associations. Nymphoidetum peltatae stands develop in waters characterized by the lowest pH and COD-MnO4, low alkalinity, and the highest nitrate and nitrite values in relation to the other analyzed phytocenoses. Trapetum natantis stands, on the other hand, prefer the warmer sections of the canal network, neutral pH, and the highest values of BOD5, dissolved and total phosphorus. Habitat conditions in which Nymphaeetum albo-luteae stands develop are of the widest range in comparison to other investigated phytocenoses.

Forest communities dominated by noble broad-leaved trees (maple, lime and ash) in Europe are of elevated scientific and conservation interest for the European Union. In this paper, we first present a synthesis of the maple and ash forests in peninsular Italy. By classifying these forests, we distinguish seven main groups for the territory, which only broadly match the syntaxa proposed in the literature. The variability of the Apennine data is then analysed floristically and phytogeographically (using chorological components) in a central-southern European context, using numerical classification, INSPAN, and direct ordination of several synoptic tables. These analyses allow us to identify six different groups of European Acer-Fraxinus communities. Canonical Variates Analysis (CVA) of the geographical components confirms the existence of distinct phytogeographical groups. In particular, we highlight the clear distinction between central European (including the Alps) and southern European coenoses. Among the latter there was a clear floristic and chorological distinction between Balkan and Apennine groups. These results reflect the biogeographical subdivisions of Europe, but do not support the syntaxonomical schemes proposed by other authors, which are based only on floristic-ecological information or (recently) use a smaller data set of Italian relevés. This study also shows that syntaxonomical schemes above the association level should pay more attention to phytogeographical aspects rather than focus on floristic-ecological information alone, in order to propose models that are of value on a geographical scale.
