Ninety-seven tomato landraces collected from East Anatolian region of Turkey and North-West of Iran, along with three commercial cultivars were evaluated during two years. Experiment was carried out in an alpha lattice design at Agriculture and Natural Resources Research Center of West Azerbaijan, Iran. Analysis of variance revealed significant variation (P ≤ 0.01) among genotypes for all the experimental characters. Yield showed a positive and significant correlation with length and width of cotyledon leaf, length and width of true leaf, fruit weight, fruit length and diameter, pericarp thickness and fruit peduncle length. In principal component analysis, the first three components explained for 71.6% of total variations among genotypes. Since the first component determined 50% of total variations and yield had high significant coefficient with this component, thus it might be used as s selection criteria to identify genotypes with high yield in breeding programs. Cluster analysis using Ward method classified genotypes into five groups. Groups included: early maturing genotypes in group I, genotypes with high yield in group II, genotypes with large fruit in group III, late maturing and high total soluble solids (TSS) genotypes in group IV and genotypes with high acidity in group V.
W czasie dwóch lat oceniono 97 miejscowych odmian pomidora zebranych w anatolijskim regionie Turcji i północno-zachodnim Iranie oraz trzy odmiany handlowe. Eksperyment przeprowadzono w układzie alpha lattice w Centrum Badawczym Rolnictwa i Zasobów Naturalnych w Zachodnim Azerbejdżanie w Iranie. Analiza wariancji ukazała zmienność (P ≤ 0.01) wśród genotypów w odniesieniu do wszystkich cech doświadczenia. Plon wykazał pozytywną, istotną korelację z długością i szerokością liścienia, długością i szerokością liścia, masą owocu, długością i średnicą owocu, grubością owocni oraz długością szypułki owocu. W analizie głównych składowych, pierwsze trzy składowe odpowiadały za 71.6% wszystkich różnic między genotypami. Ponieważ pierwszy komponent określał 50% wszystkich różnic, a plon był istotnie skorelowany z tym komponentem, może on być używany jako kryterium selekcji do identyfikowania genotypów o wysokim plonie w programach hodowlanych. Analiza skupień przy użyciu metody Warda klasyfikowała genotypy w trzy grupy obejmujące wczesnodojrzewające genotypy w grupie I, genotypy o wysokich plonach w grupie II, genotypy o dużych owocach w grupie III, późno dojrzewające genotypy oraz genotypy o wysokiej całkowitej zawartości rozpuszczalnych składników (TSS) stałych w grupie I oraz genotypy o wysokiej kwasowości w grupie V.

Opis:
Essential oils from the leaves, stems and flowers of Postia puberula at the flowering stage were analyzed using GC and GC/MS. The results showed that leaves are abundant of cis-3-hexenyl benzoate (10.75%), benzyl benzoate (8.16%) and caryophyllene oxide (8.12%). The main compounds of stems were benzyl benzoate (21.92%), E-nuciferol (11.58%) and dibutyl phthalate (7.08%), while major components of flowers were benzyl benzoate (9.99%), caryophyllene oxide (8.14%) and E-nuciferol (8.13%). The antioxidant activities of methanol extract were evaluated by DPPH and β-carotene/linoleic acid assays. The results showed that in both methods, leaves had stronger antioxidant activity than other organs.

Opis:
Effects of 24-epibrassinolide (EBR) treatments on chlorophyll (Chl) degradation and postharvest quality of two lime (‘Persian lime’ and ‘Tahiti’) cultivars during chilling-induced storage were studied in this work. EBR at 0, 2.5, 5 and 10 µM were applied to fruit by vacuum infiltration at 30.63 kPa for 7 min and afterward stored at 4°C for 60 days. Postharvest EBR application effectively maintained greater fruit firmness and lessened weight loss during cold storage. The results displayed that EBR treatments efficiently delayed the reduction of the Chl a contents and hue values. EBR treatments significantly increased ascorbic acid content, total phenolic content (TPC), antioxidant activity, and titratable acidity (TA). On the other hand, the treatments reduced soluble solids concentration (SSC), pH, and SSC/TA ratios during cold storage. Overall, EBR application by vacuum infiltration could be an effective and simple method for maintaining postharvest quality of limes during cold storage.

Opis:
Water is the most important environmental factor in growth and fruit yield of trees. To study the effect of deficit irrigation on reproductive characteristics and yield of seven superior olive genotypes of D1, Dd1, Gw, Ps1, Bn3, Bn6, and Ds17. The present research was accomplished in Dallaho Olive Research Station of Sarpol-e zahab, Kermanshah, Iran, in 2014 and 2015. Seven superior olive genotypes were studied in a randomized complete block design with three replicates and three irrigation regimes. The irrigation treatments included: 100% full irrigation (control), 75% deficit irrigation, and 50% deficit irrigation applied during the growth season. The results indicated that the genotypes had different reactions to the deficit irrigation regimes. Dd1 had the highest fruit weight, while the lowest fruit weight was observed in Ps1 and Gw. The highest fruit yield was found in Bn3, Bn6, and Dd1, while the lowest was observed in Ps1. As a result, Bn6 and Dd1 are introduced as the genotypes that are resistant to drought in the field.

In order to evaluate the relationship between traits affecting the seed yield of the garden cress, phenotypic correlations between seed yield and yield components were detected, direct and indirect effects of yield components on yield and its role in the description of diversity were estimated, and the experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design with three replications in 2017. The ANOVA showed that the difference among accessions was significant for all traits. There was a significant phenotypic correlation between yield and most of the traits. The highest value of phenotypic correlation was obtained between seed yield and the ‘thousand seed weight’ (0.97). The regression analysis showed that the seed yield was highly influenced by the ‘thousand seed weight’, leaf height and the number of seeds per silique of the lateral branches and the main axis. These three traits constituted about 89% of changes in the total yield, while the ‘thousand seed weight’ was the most effective trait that entered the model and explained 51% of the variation. The path analysis of phenotypic correlation showed that the ‘thousand seed weight’ had the greatest direct effect on the yield (7.21). The ‘thousand seed weight’ had a positive indirect impact on other traits as well. As a result of the factor analysis, 3 independent factors explained about 79.33% of the yield variation. These factors consisted of the number of seeds per silique of the lateral branches, the number of seeds per silique of the main axis and the ‘thousand seed weight’.

This research was conducted to evaluate the effects of water salinity and nano-silica (NS) and humic acid (HA) on Bermuda grass. The study was carried out under greenhouse and exterior space conditions in a completely randomized design with factorial arrangements. Treatments included 4 water salinity levels (0, 5, 7 and 9 dS/m) and 4 level of NS (0, 1, 2 and 3 mm/l) as well as 4 level of HA (0, 50, 100 and 150 mg/l). Results indicated a decrease in chlorophyll content, and increase in proline, malondialdehyde (MDA), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and electrolyte leakage (EL) with increasing levels of salinity. The chlorophyll content in greenhouse and exterior space also increased with increasing levels of NS and HA, while proline in two environments, with increasing levels of NS and HA decreased. EL with increasing levels of NS fluctuated, but with increasing levels of HA, it decreased in two environments. With increasing levels of NS, CAT in both environments was eventually decreased after the oscillation, but there was no particular trend in HA levels. With increasing levels of NS and HA, MDA in the greenhouse decreased and in the exterior space – it increased. Finally, by increasing levels of NS and HA, SOD did not show any change in the greenhouse condition, but in the exterior space, the SOD was decreased.

Allium jesdianum Boiss. & Buhse (Yazdi onion) belonging the family Alliaceae, is an endemic species of Iran that grows wild in the Zagros Mountains range, southwestern Iran. The indigenous people of Iran use the leaves and bulbs of A. jesdianum for the treatment of colds and kidney problems. The bulbs and leaves of various populations of the plant were collected from the alpine regions in Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari province, southwestern Iran. The total phenolic content of ethanol extract was determined by FolinCiocalteu method, the antioxidant activity was evaluated measuring 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), and the antibacterial activity of the extracts against four bacteria was determined by serial dilution assay. Results indicated that the total phenolic content in ethanol extracts from leaves and bulbs of A. jesdianum ranged between 27.83 to 98.23 mg GAE/g extract. A comparison of all plant extracts in the DPPH assay indicated that ethanol extracts from the populations of A. jesdianum leaves were the most effective free radical scavenging agents. The extracts indicated moderate-to-good inhibitory activities against four bacteria, especially against B. cereus. This finding suggests that the bulbs and leaves of A. jesdianum may be considered a natural source of antioxidants and antimicrobial agents.

Opis:
Autumn daffodil (Sternbergia lutea) is a rare and endangered bulbous plant with yellow flowers grown naturally in Iran and unfortunately for different reasons this plant is at the risk of eradication. Natural multiplication rate of S. lutea is low, thus propagation by chipping method is one inexpensive and simple way to overcome this problem. This research was therefore performed to investigate the propagation method in two experiments. In the first experiment, the effects of some plant growth regulators (PGRs) on induction and regeneration of bulblets from bulb chips (propagules) were evaluated. The propagules were prepared by chipping method and treated with indole butyric acid (IBA), gibberellic acid (GA3), benzyl adenine (BA), kinetin (Kin) and cycocel (CCC) at 100 and 200 mg L–1 concentrations for 2 h and then incubated for two months at 20 ±1°C. At the end of incubation, the results showed the highest percentage of concurrent bulblet + root regeneration (CBRR), number and fresh weight of bulblets related to 100 mg L–1 GA3. The highest percentage of only bulblet regeneration (OBR), only root regeneration (ORR) and non-regeneration were obtained at 200 mg L–1 IBA, 100 mg L–1 Kin and control (distillated water: DW) treatments, respectively. In the second experiment, the bulblets that had rooted from each treatment of the first experiment were planted and the produced bulbs were compared. The results indicated that the highest percentage of bulblet sprouting, bulb number and diameter were found at 100 mg L–1 GA3. Therefore, the application of GA3 with mentioned concentration is appropriate for vegetative propagation of this plant by bulb chipping.

Opis:
Salinity stress is a serious problem in urban landscape of arid and semi arid regions. To overcome the adverse impact of salinity, the application of organic matter and plant nutrients in the growth media for improving the plant growth is essential. An experiment was conducted in order to determine the response of Salvia splendens to salinity levels and also the role of humic acid in the salt stress alleviation. In the current experiment, five salinity levels (0, 20, 40, 60, and 80 mM NaCl) and three humic acid (0, 100, 500 and 1000 mg/l) treatments were prepared. The effects of these treatments were investigated on some growth parameters, physiological characteristics and also biochemical compounds. The results indicated that the growth parameters decreased in saline-treated than control plants. Different salinity levels significantly affected relative water content, evaporation rate and also electrolyte leakage. Salinity caused the increase in proline, malondialdehyde, sugar content, DPPH, total phenol content and decrease in chlorophyll, compare to the control plants. Application of humic acid on Salvia splendens decreased the leaf area and plant height compared to the control plants. Thus, regarding the growth parameters, it is probable that the effect of humic acid on the biochemical compounds is similar to salinity effect. The findings suggest that sage is an ornamental plant sensitive to salinity and humic acid (in the studied levels) could not alleviate the negative effects of salt stress on this plant.
