One of the most unusual events in the Ukrinian new wave literature is massive return women in it, which began in the end of 80-es. Among the most interesting writers there must be mentioned Oksana Zabuzhko, Svitlana Kasjanova, Jevhenia Kononenko, Sofia Majdanska, Valentyna Masterova, Halyna Pahutiak, Lubov Ponomarenko, Natalka Śniadanko and others. In the works of these authors, written from the femine and feministic position, as opposite to patriarchal-maskuline mentality, are deeply and convincingly considered the aspects of modern human exsistence: loneliness and alienation, loss of identity, lack of mutual understanding even among fellows and relatives, egoism and egocentism, various forms of physical and phsychological agression, and so on. Espacially great attention author of this article devotes to the analysis of chosen aspects of female identyty in the works of Zabuzhko (Field Exploration in Ukrainian Sex and others), Śniadanko (Collection of Pasions or Adventures ofYoung Ukrainian Lady), Kononenko (Without Fellow).

Abstract is dedicated to the historical and culturological analysis of the contemporary names of streets and squares of Lviv, occurred from well-known Poles’ surnames. Are examined 1189 names, from which 72% arose via transformation of anthroponym. Are found 19 names, basis of which became Polish surnames. Analysis showed that the majority of names departs by its roots to Austro- Hungarian Empire or Soviet period, only 4 of them were appropriated already in the independent Ukraine. The persons who are immortalized, first of all, are representatives of the different branches of culture, science and skill. Most of them represented literature - in 9 names. Among the onymical motivations were found 3 types: 1) motivation by the direct connection of man with the street or the city (place of stay or bury), here are involved such names, as Банаха, Запольськог, Бой-Желенського, Коноптцьког, Фредра 2) the creation of the immortalized personality is valuable for the Ukrainian culture or contains elements, connected with the Ukraine (Кльоновича, Кольберга, Ожешко, Словацького), 3) the reputation of immortalized face has the world nature (Коперника, Мщкевича, Шопена). The first type possesses real motivation, when second and third type names are only memorial names, especially productive in contemporary urbanonymy. Analysis was made on the basis of the dictionary-handbooks by B. Melnyk and S. Gromov.

The article discusses of acquiring borrowings in the Ukrainian dialect over the territory of river San, occurring on Polish territory. Examined dialect is classified to south-western team of Ukrainian dialects and because of location it possesses features of insular dialects - peripheral. Assimilation and linguistic interference are on the factors contributing to acquiring borrowings from Polish language. This process, at the present stage of functioning of the dialect, is increasing phenomenon. Full or partial adaptation of Polish borrowings constitutes a contemporary source of enrichment of dialect vocabulary. However, the uses of this dialect retain their national and religions identity, the characteristic feature of East Slavic-Ukrainian lingual area.

The toponymy of Ukraine and of the Polish-Ukrainian frontier in the studied period is interesting with respect to the reflection of the contemporary settlement processes and with respect to the takeover by the 16th century toponymy of many Old Ruthenian features. These processes were accompanied by certain polonisation of writing in the 17th and 18th century. Numerous linguistic alternants are noticed. The above-mentioned phenomena are analysed in the article in ancillary and ethnic names (tribal names, ethnonyms, names of the citizens with respect to the feature of the inhabited place or names of emigrants from towns or villages). The studied groups retained their old names (the names given are source writing forms), conf. tribal names: Kiwercze, Torki, Печенеги, etc. New forms appear indicating culture and language clash typical for these areas, i.e. Koscielniki, Kryłosanie, Warwazynce. The article discusses the group development in subsequent centuries and the areas of occurrence of respective toponyms.

In the 30s of 19th century the Ruthenian (Ukrainian) national movement in the Austrian Galicia was dominated by the dilemma of so called azbuchna vijna (Ukrainian „alphabet war”). The dispute among the national activists was about the change the Cyrillic script to the Latin alphabet adopted from Polish language. This paper presents the arguments of Greek-Catholic father Josyph Levytskyi, who was the most influential critic of the idea of latinization. He published his ideas in a small booklet that was distributed together with the Polish weekly „Rozmaitości” . Levytskyi stressed on long history of the Cyrillic alphabet and its uniqueness. Moreover, he claimed that new alphabet will not make Ruthenian literature more European and will only give the Poles another reason to call Ruthenian language a variety of Polish. On the other hand, Levytskyi did not appraised very much the usage of grazhdanka by the „Rus Trinity” and criticised the new orthography, which was based on phonetic principle. This article presents a word formation analysis of adjectival derivatives with a не- prefix in theUkrainian language. Derivatives with the following formants are discussed: -лив-, -им-, -ев- (-ев-),-к- (-ок-, -ек-), -сък- (-цък-), -л-, -уч- (-юч-), -ач- (-яч-), -ущ- (-ющ-). The conducted analysisallows for the following conclusions:1. With regard to derivative bases, the discussed affixal derivatives can be divided into twobasic groups, whose motivation is derived from nominal and verbal derivative bases and roots.2. Derived noun bases fall into the categories of derivative bases and roots, functioning in twogrammatical genders: masculine and feminine. A greater expansiveness in forming suffixal derivativesis indicated by derivative bases, mostly suffixal ones.3. In the Ukrainian language, there is a small group of the so-called polymotivational derivativeswith a double motivation, whose formation can be derived from a particular non-prefix adjectiveor a noun stem.In the Ukrainian language, a numerous group of suffixal derivatives has suppletive suffixalor paradigmatic forms.

The community of Ukrainian origin in Warmia and Mazury is not often the object of research due to the fact that it is strongly involved in ideology and politics, which makes it difficult to draw a boundary between propaganda and its actual problems. What contributed to the transformation of the Ukrainian culture into the North-East Poland were activities of those Ukrainian communities that migrated into this region in the course of „Wisła” action in 1947. The research that the author conducted in a group of Ukrainian teenagers in 2004 casts a new light onto the community, making it possible to characterize the continuously evolving problems of its existence. The approach to this topic highlights the way in which the Ukrainian minority, tom apart from its original environment, deals with its problems and is gradually integrating into the new reality. It also focuses on the analysis of differences concerning mutual relations. In time. the awareness of the Ukrainian community members has lost its demanding nature, and has become filled with invention and initiative, thus resembling the awareness that the hosts of their new motherland should display. It is very interesting to notice that the Poles are often participants in the cultural events organized by the Ukrainians.

In this article some chosen dramas of O. Irvanets are analyzed in the context of the creative work of BuBaBists, who, sneering at tautological consciousness and language, affect the change of the codes of national culture and violate the pristine position of literature -logos that programmes national and cultural being. The author notices that traditional concept of time and space, dynamics of action, dramatic conflict and the structure of the character in the plays of Irvanets are transformed with the aim of making an attempt of new artistic dialogue with modern audience. Present in dramas of Irvanets questions about the essence of nation, political being, about the identity of the society of the transitional period depicted from the character’s point of view - a puppet, the caricature of the average postsoviet citizen, have the ambivalent significance. In author’s opinion, Irvanets imitating the automatism of speaking and totalitarian mirror image of language is ironic about the hero’s persuit of oblivion in the comfort of counterfeit world, where image dominates the object and reality. The dramatist, exposing the mechanisms of the commonplace kitsch, that creates the illusion of artificially maintained unity, which gives the feeling of satisfaction and beauty, demythologizes Ukrainian posttotalitarian awareness that is dominated by the gender divisions.
