Bychowiec’s Chronicle
Great Lithuanian Duchy
linguistic - Opis:
- Polish words or phrases used in the Bychowiec’s Chronicle don’t only have „outside” character as marks of the highbrow culture. They are not also only signs of the Polish national identities of reality of living in The Great Lithuanian Duchy or the Roman-Catholic faith; give inversely – they constitute certain internal, immanent feature of the language of this period, at least on the manorhouse of princes Olelkowicz. Practically all lexical Polish word or phrase used in the Chronicle underwent the process of the phonetic adaptation, and sometimes it was hard to find Polish character in them. Borrowings concern the entire linguistic system in this case, at the same time parallel native or Orthodox-Slav elements are functioning what the impression that the tongue of the Chronicle constitutes the specific blend of elements of these three linguistic systems.
