Opis:
This article is aimed at establishing the place of exoticisms against the spectrum of other loan words. We consider increased language and cultural contacts, intensified in recent years. Additionally, we focus on the typology of loan words, taking into account their degree of assimilation to the rules of the recipient language. We define exoticisms as unassimilated loan words, whose main aim is to re-create various national features and name unknown cultural phenomena. The domination of cultural traits in the semantic structure of exoticisms (which constitutes the hallmark of this lexical group) is the basis of the proposed relation between the analyzed loan words and the so-called words-realities. Moreover, we put stress on the particular spheres of life in which exoticisms are used, as well as on their inner differentiation, connected with the nativization processes affecting the language.

Opis:
The article analyses the speech of the Ukrainian community in Warmia and Mazury after 65 years of its existence in an alien linguistic milieu, which additionally has not been conducive to its religious, political and cultural life. It was the aim of the author to determine the present state of Ukrainian dialects in the constantly growing linguistic pluralism which leads to linguistic assimilation. The research material was collected in the group of respondents who were interviewed by the author. The author limited the range of conversation topics to vocabulary connected with cultivating customs and traditions of different festivals as well as rituals connected with wedding, baptism and funeral. The performed analysis shows that the processes of assimilation threaten both city dwellers as well as villagers. Still, in villages these processes are less visible and even postponed by one generation.

Opis:
This article is devoted to Nadzieja Drucka (1898–1986), a Polish writer and translator of Rus-sian literature of Russian origin on her father’s side. Drucka grew up in Russia, in an aristocratic family, thanks to her marriage to a Pole, Maurice O’Brien de Lacy. She found herself in Poland in 1918, where she made an effort to learn the Polish language and culture and to assimilate with Polish society. These attempts proved successful. In the 1920s, Drucka established numer-ous contacts with the Polish literary community and conducted intense literary and social activity. She continued it after World War II, in a new political reality, openly declaring her support for a new political system in Poland. The article traces, on the basis of the writer’s autobiography Three fourths... Memories, the subsequent stages of the cultural reorientation process, as a result of which Poland became Drucka’s second homeland.
