Russian-Polish relations

national identity
Opis:
International relations have always been a very complex and controversial phenomene affected by historical and political events, wchich influenced the forming of mutual prejudices, antipathy and stereotypes. The concept of national identity and nationalism began to shape relativetly late, in the XVI-XVII cebturies, and their advent was connected with national self-consiousness rise and political conditionnaly. This statement is either applicaple to the Polish-Russian relations, wchich not always were inflated with animosity and hatred. The author of the article considers the process of Russia and the Russians'negative image forming, defines the most significant events, and uniting and separating factors. In this context the two spheres of influence are meant: political-historical and cultural. In the author's opinion, nowadays the negative image of Russia and the Russians is fixed in mind of the Polish. It is very hard to overcome these prejudices, however there is such a possibility.

Opis:
XIX century Mazurian’s poetry likewise their poetry from the beginning of the XX century enclose motives ant themes connected with Russians and the Russian Empire. The Russian Empire itself and Russian as the nation were perceived by Mazury inhabitants throughout military and political primacy in the region. That attitude grows to the myths that had been formed by thepropaganda of Prussia Empire.Mazurian poetry supplied documentary evidence of the supremacy of Russian Empire in Eastern Prussia due to military conflicts (ex. „The Seven-Years War”, the Napoleonic wars, and also the I World War).Mazurian in their poetry established not only the stereotype of Russian and the Russia Empire as the aggressor but also their trepidation and deference in the same time were shown yet.

A condolence letter is characterized by conventionality and it has a stereotypical composition.Apart from words of sympathy expressing support and understanding the analysed materialincludes such contents which are not directly connected with the given literary genre. Thesecontents considerably violate the compositional features of the genre and constitute interestingresearch material presenting the picture of the Poles and Poland in the eyes of the Russians afterthe president’s plane crash in Smolensk in 2010. The picture of the Polish nation is positive whichis partly connected with the given literary genre requiring positively evaluative expressions. Thepresented picture is to a large extent based on the ethnic, historical-political, religious and socialcontexts. It is only the historical-political context that contains the elements with the negativeconnotations, but at the same time it seems to be the starting point for reevaluating and buildingnew relationships between nations

The cycle of novels The Red Wheel, one of the most significant and yet least-known works of Alexandr Solzhenitsyn, offers a profound insight into the issue of national identity and relationships between Poles and Russians. The analysis of how Solzhenitsyn depicted Poles in the cycle, in terms of their being strangers or own people, is all the more interesting for the fact that it relates to a specific point in history. Indeed, in The Red Wheel novels, Solzhenitsyn provides a detailed description of the period of decline of the multinational Russian Empire, which, by extension, was a pivotal time in the history of the Polish quest for independence.

Opis:
The article contains a comparison of the works by the representatives of the youngest genera- tion of writers: Dorota Masłowska and Irina Dienieżkina. The author makes a short review of the opinions on the characteristics and attitudes regarded widely as stereotypical and then tries to determine to what extent, and if at all, they are translated into the behaviour and views of Masłowskas and Dienieżkinas characters? What brings closer, and what makes these two youth subcultures different? Seeking answers to such a question, the author reflects three areas of human activity: love, male-female relationships and a language (the youth culture slang). The analysis determines the assimilation of these two youth communities, first of all due to the common fascination with mass culture, pop culture. The said assimilation is accompanied by the simultane- ous disappearance of the characteristics widely recognised as stereotypical.
