Opis:
Development of the index method for acoustic assessment of Roman Catholic churches is presented in the article. The current version of the global index was developed on the grounds of studies conducted in 8 churches and was based on 4 partial assessment indices: reverberation, music sound, speech intelligibility, and external disturbances. The use of sound strength as another partial index for global assessment is proposed in the article. A new formula of the global index for assessment of the acoustic quality of Roman Catholic churches is proposed. The computational procedure of the global index which uses analytical tools such as singular value decomposition (SVD) and comparative multivariate analysis (CMA) resulted from studies and analyses performed on an index observation matrix that was larger than before. Verification of index assessment was carried out for a sample of 12 Roman Catholic churches.

The analysis of uncertainty related to evaluation of sound insulation of partitions performed according to standard solutions recommended in The Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (GUM) by ISO/IEC-1998 and according to the new method based on the interval analysis - is presented in the paper. Both methods are compared and their application advantages presented. Limitations of the current solutions based on the law of propagation of uncertainty are shown. The method of the estimate derivation for the sound insulation based on interval arithmetic related to the measurement data is presented. The influence of the input parameters uncertainty on the calculation results of the sound insulation of partitions is determined. The considerations are illustrated by numerical examples.

Previous studies and analyses conducted up to now on the indicatory description of the acoustic quality of buildings concerned single value indices based on several selected acoustic parameters that are correlated with each other. Transformation of values, correlated into a new set of independent components for the purpose of their future synthesis, took place using the Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) technique. In this article, it is shown that SVD can also be applied to the determination of the single-value global acoustic quality index in the case where the decomposed index observation matrix contains partial indices that are not only correlated, but also uncorrelated. Alternatively, a statistical method used in econometrics, i.e. Comparative Multivariate Analysis (CMA), was adapted to obtain a single-value index from uncorrelated partial indices. Both proposed methods of synthesis have been verified using the example of a group of buildings - Roman Catholic churches.

We present the results of a new excitonic formalism for the treatment of ultrafast dynamics in asymmetric semiconductor multiple quantum well structures. The method is infinite order in the optical field, with truncation of the infinite hierarchy of dynamical equations being accomplished via a factorization of six-particle correlation functions into a product of two- and four-particle ones. We use this formalism to calculate the THz emission and degenerate four-wave mixing signals from biased semiconductor superlattices under different excitation conditions. We present a number of density-dependent effects that demonstrate the central role that the intraband polarization plays in determining and modifying the nonlinear ultrafast response of the system.

We present photocurrent and time-resolved photoluminescence investigations of AlGaAs/GaInAs/GaAs structures containing GaInAs/GaAs self-assembled quantum dots. The high electrical field in those devices significantly influences carrier dynamics. The photocurrent spectra show a double peak with maxima at 1.40 and 1.47 eV (at 80 K). These maxima are due to the GaInAs wetting layer (higher) and the quantum dots (lower). The photoluminescence spectra comprise weak excitonic luminescence from GaAs at 1.504 eV (at 80 K) and stronger and broad emission from the Ga$\text{}_{0.4}$In$\text{}_{0.6}$As quantum dots. At 300 K, the quantum dots emission has a lifetime of 1.1 ns and has a maximum at an energy of 1.38 eV. By analysis of both experiments, we can separate the influence of different radiative and nonradiative recombination processes. So, the tunneling rate: r$\text{}_{T}$=0.5 ns$\text{}^{-1}$ and the radiative recombination rate in the quantum dots: r$\text{}_{RQD}$=0.4 ns$\text{}^{-1}$ have been determined. The high tunneling probability (due to the influence of the built-in electric field) reveals that the tunneling effect is important for the recombination and transport processes in our structures.

Opis:
The elastic stiffness tensors for wurtzite GaN and AlN show a significant hydrostatic pressure dependence, which is the evidence of nonlinear elasticity of these compounds. We have examined how pressure dependence of elastic constants for wurtzite nitrides influences elastic and piezoelectric properties of GaN/AlN planar superlattices and quantum dots. Particularly, we show that built-in hydrostatic pressure, present in both quantum wells of the GaN/AlN superlattices and GaN/AlN quantum dots, increases significantly by 0.3-0.7 GPa when nonlinear elasticity is used. Consequently, the compressive volumetric strain in quantum wells and quantum dots decreases in comparison to the case of the linear elastic theory. However, the z-component of the built-in electric field in the quantum wells and quantum dots increases considerably when nonlinear elasticity is taken into account. Both effects, i.e., a decrease in the compressive volumetric strain as well as an increase in the built-in electric field, decrease the band-to-band transition energies in the quantum wells and quantum dots.

Despite new technological solutions and attempts to improve the working conditions during the operation of vehicles, city bus drivers are still exposed to negative impacts of noise and vibrations. This research project was undertaken in response to the lack of holistic analyses of the environmental factors that might impact on the city bus drivers at work. No extensive major research was done to investigate the influence of the conditions at work on functional stability of bus drivers and basic physiological parameters of the human body (systolic and diastolic pressure, pulse rate, temperature in the ear channel, loading of postural muscles, blood circulation determined with the use of a thermovision camera, fatty tissue content, body mass and physical condition (squeezing and pressing exercises). the main purpose of this research program was to show the impacts that the conditions at work might have on bus drivers or to demonstrate that these impacts do no exist.

Optical properties of CdTe/ZnTe quantum dots are studied as a function of a capping layer thickness by means of time-integrated and time-resolved microphotoluminescence. The samples are grown by MBE and covered with 10 nm and 100 nm capping layer. Despite that the proximity of the surface may result in an enhanced rate of non-radiative processes limiting the quantum dots optical performance, the set of results indicates that reduction of the capping layer thickness down to 10 nm has no effect on the quantum dot emission intensity and decay rate, contrary to the previously reported case of InAs/GaAs quantum dots.

Time-resolved correlation measurements were performed to examine the statistics of photon emission from a single quantum dot at high excitation levels. The range of strong powers was determined by the saturation of intensity of excitonic lines. The significant contribution of pulsed background luminescence forced us to sophisticated analysis of the photoluminescence spectra. For quantum dots grown in the Stranski-Krastanov mode, one-photon emission was found to a good approximation. Fluctuation type quantum dots exhibit a significant level of multiphoton emission.

The paper presents an original method for sound reinforcement in open areas. The method enabled both a regular sound reinforcement and the required spatial impressions of sound to be achieved in the area used for the study. The inverse image source method was used for the disposition of sound sources in order to find the inverse problem solution for determining the configuration of additional sound sources. Simulations demonstrated the improvement of sound impressions in the area in question and the simulations results were verified experimentally. The intended result of the proposed method was the increase of the lateral energy fraction and lateral energy fraction coefficient parameter values by 6 and 8 points, respectively, for the simulation by 5 and 7 points for the experiment. It should be stated that, in both the simulation and the experiment, eligible values for the acoustic parameters were obtained after using the sound system with additional sound sources, the speech intelligibility value parameters remain at an excellent level. In conclusion, it may be claimed that the proposed sound reinforcement system makes the creation of the intended spatial sound impressions in an open area possible.

The work presents the research on the influence of driver's working environment on thermical changes in their organism. The experiment was conducted between 24 and 31 March 2008 in the tram depot of Public Transport Agency in Tychy. Thermo-visual photos were conducted twice a day - before starting work and after finishing it during six following days. The group consisted of 14 drivers aged 24-49 driving city buses (the make: Solaris Urbino 18). The results were analyzed concerning statistics using Statistica. For the sake of the analysis the significance level was p = 0.05, the non-parametric Wilcoxon test or parametric T-test were used for two groups of dependent variables. The research and analysis show that driver's working environment has valid influence on thermical changes in their organism.

The paper presents methods of designing sonotrodes, working in varied mechanical vibration modes in high power application regime such as rotary ultrasonic welding systems. The aim of the sonotrode design process is to optimize its shape to achieve the best energy efficiency for a given welding process. Sonotrode geometry influences the power transferred to the welded element because it determines the vibration amplitude distribution in the sonotrode. The most popular applications use sonotrodes designed for axial vibration. Conducted research have shown that the optimal displacement and strain distribution is achieved for sonotrodes working in various vibration modes such as axial, transverse, radial or their compositions. In the paper examples of multimode sonotrode models for various rotary ultrasonic welding technologies have been presented.

Results of computer simulations and measurements in real interior for varying location of sound source and microphone are shown in the paper. A small room with a volume of 47 $m^3$ was used for this purpose. The objective of measurements and calculations was to determine the sound pressure level and other parameters derived from the room impulse response ($T_{30}$, EDT, $C_{80}$, STI) followed by the sensitivity analysis of those parameters to changing the location and orientation of the sound source and the receiver. In order to determine these parameters, the room impulse response was measured using MLS method. Experimental studies have been used to verify the acoustic room model built with use of enhanced radial method algorithms and its sensitivity. That allowed complementary and extended simulation studies on the room acoustic characteristics and finally determination of sensitivity of output parameters to changes of location and orientation of the measurement channel elements.
