Opis:
The transport properties of CuO-Bi$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$ pellets (pressed at room temperature 303 K) like dc electrical conductivity etc. are measured. The activation energy, dielectric constant etc. are reported. The hopping conduction is examined. Non-adiabatic hopping conduction is observed. The plot of -log σ versus 1/T is found to be linear. Activation energy of pellets containing CuO (80, 70, 60 mol%) shows electronic conduction while the pellet containing CuO (50 mol%) shows ionic conduction. The effect of content of CuO (mol%) and frequency on dielectric constant is also studied. The variation of dielectric constant with CuO (mol%) shows zigzag nature and may be due to the relaxation effects.

This paper is devoted to identification of the most important factors responsible for formation of magnetic moments at edges of graphene-like nanoribbons. The main role is attributed to the Hubbard correlations (within unrestricted Hartree-Fock approximation) and intrinsic spin-orbit interactions, but additionally a perpendicular electric field is also taken into account. Of particular interest is the interplay of the in-plane edge magnetism and the energy band gap. It is shown that, with the increasing electric field, typically the following phases develop: magnetic insulator (with in-plane spins), nonmagnetic narrow-band semiconductor, and nonmagnetic band insulator.

Yttrium oxide (Y₂O₃) is the most familiar yttrium compound, which is popularly known as host for ion doping of other rare earth elements. Bismuth ion (Bi³⁺) is well known as an activator and sensitizer in several particular phosphors. Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanomaterial, having a wide band gap, is one of the promising candidates for general illumination applications due to its high optical transparency and color tenability bismuth (Bi) and zinc (Zn) co-doped Y₂O₃ samples are synthesized by simple precipitation techniques like solvothermal and wet chemical methods. The prepared samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive X-ray spectra, ultraviolet-visible absorbance spectroscopy and photoluminescence spectrophotometry. Ultraviolet-visible absorption studies showed absorption only around 340 nm whereas photoluminescence shows peaks around 500 nm, 680 nm, and 1020 nm for Bi and Zn co-doped Y₂O₃. The photoluminescence spectrum shows emission in blue region (500 nm) due to Zn dopant and red and near infrared region (680 and 1020 nm) due to Bi dopant. This is a new material which can effectively work as an efficient and cheap red phosphor.

In this study, production possibility of glass and glass-ceramic produced from granite was investigated. The composition of granite based glass bath mixture was 50 wt% granite, 25 wt% dolomite and 25 wt% sodium carbonate. Composition that was grounded and mixed in a ball mill for 2 h was melted at 1500C for 1 h. Glass samples were heat treated for crystallization to produce glass-ceramic materials at 800°C, 900C and 1000C for 2 h to promote internal crystallization. Phase identifications of glass and glass-ceramic materials were investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis. Moreover, hardness and fracture toughness measurement of glass and glass-ceramic materials were applied. Granite based materials after that melting and casting process was found amorphous state by characterization with X-ray diffraction analysis. After the heat treatment processes, crystal phases settled out in glass matrix were also determined in granite based materials. Moreover, values of hardness and fracture toughness increasing were detected by heat treatment schedule.

We study two effective models developed for description of superconductors with short-coherence length: (i) the extended Hubbard model with on-site attraction and intersite repulsion, (ii) the model of hard-core charged bosons on a lattice. The analysis is concentrated on the problem of phase separations and competition between superconductivity (SS) and charge-density-wave (CDW) orderings. The phase diagrams of the systems are shown to consist of at least seven different states, including 3 types of phase separated (PS) states: CDW-SS (PS1), CDW-normal (PS2) and the state of electron droplets (PS3). By taking into account the PS states and the effects of longer-range density-density interactions (beyond nearest neighbors) our paper substantially generalizes and modifies the conclusions of previous papers concerning the models considered.

The rate parameter K$\text{}_{3}$ of solvent-solute energy transfer and the rate parameter K$\text{}_{7b}$ for solvent-quencher energy transfer are determined experimentally under ultraviolet excitation for a system Ethyl 1 butyl-2-methyl-5 ethoxycarboxy methoxy indole-3-carboxylate (EBMEC) in a deoxygenated system comprising 1:9 mixture of toluene-cyclohexane as a function of temperature in the range of 20-70°C, using bromobenzene as a solvent quencher. The data is analysed in terms of compact equation formed by combining Voltz et al. and Birks and Conte models. The interaction distance for the energy transfer from the excited solvent to solute molecules and solvent to quencher molecules are determined using this equation. The magnitude of the interaction distance indicates that the excitation energy transfer takes place due to long-range interaction in the case of solvent-solute energy transfer and short-range interaction in the case of solvent quencher energy transfer in dilute systems.

Opis:
The aim of this study is to compare the wear behavior of X45MoCrV5-3-1 tool steel, used as die material in aluminum extrusion, after single treatment (CrN coating) and duplex treatment (nitriding and CrN coating). Gas nitriding and physical vapor deposition were used as processing techniques and wear tests were carried out at both room and elevated temperatures. A "ball-on-disc" type tribometer was used for room temperature tests, utilizing Al₂O₃ ball as counterpart. In order to simulate the wear conditions during extrusion, hot wear tests were carried out at 450°C using "block-on-cylinder" type tribometer against AA 6080 material. Worn surfaces were studied by microscopy to reveal the wear characteristics of treated steels. It was found that (i) duplex treated steel, having higher friction coefficient at room and elevated temperature, had higher wear resistance, (ii) at room temperature single treated steel exhibited higher volume loss than the duplex treated one, (iii) at elevated temperature duplex treated steel revealed a stable coating layer, whereas micro cracks were observed on the surface of the single treated steel.

Opis:
We study the phase diagrams and thermodynamic properties of a system of coexisting wide-band current carriers (c-particles) and narrow-band electrons (d-electrons) which can form local pairs. There are two distinct mechanisms of superconductivity in the model considered: (i) the intersubsystem charge exchange, which leads to the superconducting state involving both types of electrons and (ii) the pair hopping interaction of d-electrons, leading to the superconducting state of d-particles only. In contrast to previous works on the subject, we assume an arbitrary value of on-site density interaction of d-electrons U, which allows us to study the effects of reduced d-pair binding energy. Within the approach in which the U term is exactly treated we determine the evolution of superconducting properties as a function of interactions and relative position of the bands. In a definite range of parameters the system shows features which are intermediate between those of a local pair superconductor and those of a classical BCS model. The increasing on-site Coulomb repulsion U competing with the intersubsystem charge exchange and the pair hopping interaction reduces the superconducting critical temperature. Moreover, it can induce a change of the superconducting transition into the first order one. Above a critical value of U, dependent on concentration of electrons and other interactions, the superconducting state cannot be stable at any temperature.

This study shows that magnetic edge states of graphene-like nanoribbons enhance effectively the thermoelectric performance. This is due to the antiparallel alignment of magnetic moments on opposite zigzag edges and the confinement effect, which jointly lead to the appearance of a gap in the electronic energy spectrum. Consequently, the Seebeck coefficient as well as the thermoelectric power factor get strongly enhanced (with respect to other alignment cases) at room temperature and energies not far away from the charge neutrality point. Moreover the corresponding figure of merit (ZT) is also improved as a result of the reduced electronic thermal conductance.

Transition probabilities are calculated for individual and multiplet lines between some excited states in neutral sodium by using the weakest bound electron potential model theory. In the determination of parameters required for calculation of transition probabilities, we employed numerical non-relativistic Hartree-Fock wave functions for expectation values of radii in all levels. The necessary energy values were taken from experimental energy data in the literature. The obtained results were compared with accepted values taken from National Institute of Standards and Technology data and multi-configurational Hartree-Fock results given by Fischer. A good agreement was observed in related excited states.

This study presents the neutronic performances of fissile breeding and energy production of a gas cooled accelerator-driven system with LBE-uranium dioxide (UO₂) spallation target. The accelerator-driven system is designed and optimized by considering various target materials, in terms of neutronic. Two different materials, LBE + natural UO₂ and LBE + 15% enrichment UO₂ are selected as target materials. The target zone is divided into two parts, one within the other; the outer part is pure LBE target part, and the inner part is UO₂ target part cooled with the helium gas. Tristructural-isotropic (TRISO)-coated fuel particles, containing UO₂ fuel, are embedded in a carbon matrix pebble with the packing fraction of a 29%, and the pebbles are placed in the UO₂ target part and in the fuel core with the packing fraction of a 60%. The fuel core is cooled with helium that is a high-temperature coolant. The target is bombarded with the continuous beams of a 1 GeV protons to produce high-flux neutrons that enter the fuel core. The fuel core is surrounded with a graphite reflector zone serving as both effective moderation and reflection of these neutrons. Furthermore, the whole system is enclosed by boron carbide, B₄C (shielding zone), to prevent the neutrons leakage out of the accelerator-driven system. The high-energy Monte Carlo code MCNPX along with the LA150 library is used for neutronic calculations. The numerical results bring out that the investigated accelerator-driven system has a high neutronic performance, from the energy production and fissile breeding points of view. Namely, it can be obtained over the thermal power of a 350 MW and produced over the fissile breeding of a 300 g/day.
