Opis:
The electro-optical Kerr effect of n-alkanes from C$\text{}_{5}$ to C$\text{}_{16}$ was investigated in gas phase, liquid phase, and solution. The values of the Kerr constants in gas phase are noticeably distinguishable from those in liquids, where the molecules interact by the London dispersion forces. Both the energy of the dispersion interaction and the difference in the Kerr constants in liquid and gas phase grow with molecular size, indicating the key influence of the interaction on the magnitude of the Kerr effect. Several orientation and molecular-statistical theories of electro-optical Kerr effect were applied to model the change in electro-optical Kerr effect due to the dispersion force. Most theories show significant divergence compared to the experimental data. It is argued that the decisive contribution to electro-optical Kerr effect in liquids and the deviations between the experiment and theory arise due to local liquid structures that collectively orient in the external electric field.

Opis:
Excitation-relaxation dynamics in CdSe nanocrystals passivated with tri-n-octylphosphine oxide and embedded in the poly(butylmethacrylate) polymer was investigated before and after their irradiation by high intensity laser pulses. The irradiation causes a significant bleaching of the sample absorption as well as the shift of the lowest energy absorption band to the short wavelength side. The film irradiation reduces the nonlinear transient absorption bleaching on the long wavelength side of the low energy absorption band, however, it has only minor influence on the transient absorption relaxation.

Opis:
Semimetallic conductivity was observed in PbTe/PbS SL obtained by a "hot wall" technique on (001) KCl substrates with (001) PbTe buffer layers. From the analysis of R$\text{}_{H}$(H) and p$\text{}_{⊥}$(H) dependencies by the Monte-Carlo fitting procedure the band offset ΔE$\text{}_{v}$ = 0.32 ± 0.05 eV was obtained (T = 77 K) and it was proved that these SLs are type II "misaligned" structures. The calculations of the band structure of PbTe/PbS SLs showed that in such SLs a semimetal-semiconductor transition should occur for layer thicknesses of about 60÷70 Å.

Opis:
Quantum coherence of elastically scattered lattice fermions is studied. We calculate vertex corrections to the electrical conductivity of electrons scattered either on thermally equilibrated or statically distributed random impurities and we demonstrate that the sign of the vertex corrections to the Drude conductivity is in both cases negative.

We investigated single crystals of GaN and thin film GaN radiation detectors by thermally stimulated currents and thermally stimulated depolarization methods in order to characterize carrier transport properties as influenced by material defect structure. In thick GaN no expressed structure of the thermally stimulated current spectra was observed in the temperature range from 100 K up to 350 K, which could be characteristic of the thermal carrier generation from trap levels. The experimental facts imply that the thermally stimulated current spectra might be caused not by carrier generation, but it could be due to thermal mobility changes. Therefore we had applied the numerical analysis by taking into account carrier scattering by ionized impurities and phonons. It was found that mobility limited by ionized impurities varies as T$\text{}^{2.8}$ and lattice scattering causes the dependence T$\text{}^{-3.5}$. The highest mobility values were up to 1550 cm$\text{}^{2}$/(V s) at 148-153 K. Such high values indicate relatively good quality of the single GaN thick crystals. In high resistivity GaN detectors irradiated by high doses of high-energy neutrons and X-rays current instabilities were observed which could be caused by the change of carrier drift paths in a highly disordered matter. A model of carrier percolation transport is presented.

Since 1990s the process of exclusion of gas-discharge and vacuum switches (GDSs and VSs) from pulsed power systems has been conditioned by two major factors - insufficient service time and necessity to supply filament circuits of GDSs and VSs. In the report, design and long-term test results of pseudospark switches (PSSs) are presented. The PSSs are to a great extent free of the mentioned shortcomings; in particular, the switches are capable of operating without filament, providing a wide variety of perspective applications of the tubes in pulsed power.

The paper presents the results of our theoretical investigations of fast electron beam generation in high-temperature plasma of a laser plume and further acceleration of electrons in atmosphere. The discharge formation in these inhomogeneous media was also investigated. Results of calculations have shown an opportunity of generation of fast beam with a current in a range ≈ $10^2 - 10^3$ A from the laser plume with the length of 5 mm and the area of 0.1 $mm^2$. The main reason of limitation of fast electrons current pulse was the breakdown of the discharge gap. The preliminary experiments carried out by us have shown the correctness of chosen direction.

Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ substitutes for Zn$\text{}^{2+}$ sites. The spin-Hamiltonian parameters are evaluated at 290 K. The superposition model has been applied to the zero-field splitting parameter D for Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ in Ce$\text{}_{2}$Mg$\text{}_{3}$(NO$\text{}_{3}$)$\text{}_{12}$ • 24H$\text{}_{2}$O and La$\text{}_{2}$Mg$\text{}_{3}$ (NO$\text{}_{3}$)$\text{}_{12}$ • 24D$\text{}_{2}$O at both sites. It is shown that the calculated values of D are in agreement with the experimental values if local relaxation effects are taken into account.

We address microscopic, agent based, and macroscopic, stochastic, modeling of the financial markets combining it with the exogenous noise. The interplay between the endogenous dynamics of agents and the exogenous noise is the primary mechanism responsible for the observed long-range dependence and statistical properties of high volatility return intervals. By exogenous noise we mean information flow or/and order flow fluctuations. Numerical results based on the proposed model reveal that the exogenous fluctuations have to be considered as indispensable part of comprehensive modeling of the financial markets.

The Green function theory is used to study the phenomenon of magnetic reorientation in the ferrimagnetic system. The two-sublattice ferrimagnetic system, with different spins and the intra-sublattice ferromagnetic exchange interactions, is considered. The magnon fluctuations supress in different way the magnetic orders of the sublattices and one obtains two magnetic orders. Each of these orders has different reorientation temperatures.

Quantum many-body chaos is described as a practical (theoretical, experimental, and computational) instrument in physics of mesoscopic systems of interacting particles. Using mainly nuclear physics applications, it is shown that interactions of constituents create stationary states of high complexity with respect to the nean-field basis with observable properties smoothly changing along the spectrum. Both local Gaussian orthogonal ensemble type features and the global evolution along the spectrum are used to understand the many-body physics and define thermodynamic properties of isolated mesoscopic objects. Among the examples discussed, especially interesting is a chaotic enhancement of weak perturbations illustrated by a large parity violation in neutron resonances on heavy nuclei. Artificially introduced chaotic elements are used to explore the nuclear landscape and predict phase transformations.
