Opis:
The acetone based electrolyte was used for electrodeposition of iron layers on the copper substrate. Two types of surfaces of the deposited layer can be obtained: shiny or black. Magnetic properties of the near-surface regions were studied by the conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy. The conversion electron Mössbauer spectra revealed apparent dependence of magnetic moments' arrangement on the deposition time. Those results were compared with the magnetization measurements. Composition of black coating was examined by the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements.

Opis:
The influence of repetition number N on magnetoresistance, magnetic reversal and structure of sputtered $(Ni_{80}Fe_{20}//Au//Co//Au)_N$ multilayers was investigated. The multilayers are characterized by in-plane $(Ni_{80}Fe_{20})$ and out-of-plane (Co) magnetic anisotropy of ferromagnetic layers and show considerable magnetoresistance effect (ΔR/R) of the giant magnetoresistance type. Increased N results in an enhancement of ΔR/R from about 0.5% for N=1 up to above 5% for N=15. This enhancement is caused by: diminishing the role of electron scattering at the surfaces, decreasing the effect of structural imperfection and the lack of the perpendicular anisotropy of Co layer in the first period. The interpretation is corroborated by low ΔR/R value observed for N=1 and an evolution of the ΔR(H)/R dependence with increasing N. The anisotropy field of Co layers also increases with N.

Opis:
Spectral and photophysical properties of a few aromatic thioketones in their S$\text{}_{2}$- and T$\text{}_{1}$-states, in particular those determined by their interactions with solvents, are discussed. The reasons for a drastically different behaviour of thioketones in interactions with benzene as well as saturated hydrocarbons and perfluoroalkanes are analysed in more detail. Results of the time-resolved transient absorption measurements in the pico- and nanosecond time scale are given. An analysis of these results proves that a product of the decay of the S$\text{}_{2}$-state of xanthione in benzene is a new transient (τ $\text{}_{1}\text{}_{/}\text{}_{e}$ ≥ 60 ps) individuum which, regarding the system properties and the conditions of the experiment, has been identified as an exciplex in S$\text{}_{2}$-state formed as a result of an efficient interaction with benzene molecule. Also in xanthione//alkane systems the involvement of a transient individuum was proved. Most probably, this individuum was a thioketyl radical which could be formed by hydrogen abstraction from a hydrocarbon molecule by xanthione in the S$\text{}_{2}$-state. Such individua act as intermediates in passing excitation to the triplet states of thioketones and are effective channels of the S$\text{}_{2}$-state decay. The changes observed in the transient absorption spectra of xanthione in C$\text{}_{6}$H$\text{}_{6}$ in the time range of 10$\text{}^{-7}$-10$\text{}^{-6}$ s can be attributed to the formation of an excimer in the T$\text{}_{1}$-state as a result of the T$\text{}_{1}$-state selfquenching.

Opis:
Electrochemical deposition is a very efficient method for producing many types of modern materials. The method is not expensive and does not have a limit for sample size. In our work the preparation of Ni, Co and Fe nanowires is presented. The obtained nanowires had different diameter and length which were tunable by template porous material and time of deposition, respectively. The quality of the prepared wires was dependent also on deposition mode. The smallest wires of the diameter around 40 nm were prepared in porous anodic alumina oxide obtained from oxalic acid. The largest ones, around 120 nm, were produced in phosphoric acid. The length could be as large as the thickness of the oxide and reached up to about 1 μm. The morphology of wires was studied by atomic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The magnetic characterization was done with usage of magnetic force microscopy and the Mössbauer spectroscopy. The wires show magnetization along their growth direction.

Opis:
In this study, the results of acoustic modeling used in a large vocabulary continuous speech recognition system are presented. The acoustic models have been developed with the use of a phonetically controlled large corpus of contemporary spoken Polish. Evaluation experiments showed that relatively good speech recognition results may be obtained with adequate training material, taking into account: (a) the presence of lexical stress; (b) speech styles (a variety of segmental and prosodic structures, various degrees of spontaneity of speech (spontaneous vs. read speech), pronunciation variants and dialects); (c) the influence of the sound level and background noises. The present large vocabulary continuous speech recognition evaluation results were obtained with Sclite assessment software. Moreover, the article delivers information about the speech corpus structure and contents and also a brief outline of the design and architecture of the automatic speech recognition system.

Opis:
Elaboration of a new method of teaching spatial orientation to blind and visually handicapped persons base on urban environment sounds was shown. Task 1 is a questionnaire inquiry on the problems of the blind moving in a big city. In Task 2 a preliminary selection and classification of the acoustic signals and vibrations that can be useful for spatial orientation was made. In Task 3 an analysis of acoustic signals for sound signalisation at pedestrian crossings was made. Some solutions for acoustic signalization were proposed. In Task 4 sounds and vibrations necessary for a library of acoustic events and situations characteristic of a city were recorded. In Task 5 the library was created and arranged to be ready to be used by teachers in the spatial orientation training. The most important outcome of the study was to develop a method of spatial orientation teaching with employment of sounds and verification of the method (Task 6). After verification it is concluded that the method is useful for spatial education of the blind at different levels of their education.

We report on an incorporation of self-assembled templates of superparamagnetic Fe-O nanoparticles into tunnel magnetoresistance devices. We fabricated a multilayer stack composed of the following layer sequence: Cr/Au/Co/NP/Co/Cu on Si(100) substrate where NP stands for a self-assembled layer of nanoparticles deposited by the Langmuir-Blodgett technique. The X-ray reflectivity and grazing-incidence small angle X-ray scattering were employed to study the layers thicknesses and interface morphology in each preparation step. In particular, the grazing-incidence small angle X-ray scattering was measured before and after the nanoparticle incorporation as well as on the complete tunnel magnetoresistance stack. In this way, in-depth morphology profile during subsequent preparation steps was obtained. We demonstrate that X-ray analysis of the deposited tunnel magnetoresistance stack is essential for successful fabrication of novel hybrid devices consisting of self-assembled nanoparticles.

We present the studies of structural, electrical and magnetic properties of bulk $Sn_{1-x-y}Pb_xCr_yTe$ mixed crystals with chemical composition 0.18 ≤ x ≤ 0.35 and 0.007 ≤ y ≤ 0.071. The magnetometric studies indicate that for the high Cr-content, y=0.071, the alloy shows ferromagnetic alignment with the Curie temperature, $T_{C}$, around 265 K. The $Cr_5Te_8$ clusters are responsible for the ferromagnetic order. At low Cr content, y ≈ 0.01, a peak in the ac magnetic susceptibility identified as the cluster-glass-like transition is observed at a temperature about 130 K. The cluster-glass-like transition is likely due to the presence of $Cr_2Te_3$ clusters in the samples with y ≈ 0.01. The transport characterization of the samples indicated strong metallic p-type conductivity with relatively high carrier concentration, n > $10^{20}$ $cm^{-3}$, and carrier mobility, μ > 150 $cm^2$/(V s).
