Opis:
The tight binding Hamiltonian of Su, Schrieffer, and Heeger has been used to describe the physical properties of the polyacetylene chain. The chain temperature is calculated from the potential energy which is directly related to the CH group displacement. Two different forms of the displacements have been considered: random and Gaussian. The third harmonic generation susceptibility spectra have been plotted in terms of the temperature using the four-wave mixing formula. The results show that a second peak at the mid gap energy has occurred for room temperature which is in good agreement with the experimental data.

The interaction potentials for Zn$\text{}_{2}$ electronic states $\text{}^{1}1\text{}_{u}$ and $\text{}^{1}0_{u}^{+}$ correlated with (4 $\text{}^{1}P_{1}$+4 $\text{}^{1}S_{0}$) asymptote in the long-range region (10-25) Å and the oscillator strength f for the absorption transition to these states are derived experimentally from a careful analysis of the self-broadened resonance 213.8 nm line of Zn. It is found that although the interatomic interactions at so long distances are dominated by resonance potential of the form C$\text{}_{3}$/R$\text{}^{3}$ resulting in the Lorentzian line shape, the parameter C$\text{}_{3}$ and thus f value significantly decrease with R decreasing. This effect proved to be a linear function of R$\text{}^{-1}$ yielding the oscillator strength for the considered line f$\text{}_{0}$=1.456 $\pm$ 0.010 from $R \rightarrow \infty$ extrapolation. This value seems to be the most accurate experimental result as yet and shows that the best theoretical values for this quantity are overestimated. It is suggested that the long-range behaviour of the potential energy curves observed here for the first time represents the effective potentials including dominating resonance interactions and a possible slight contribution of the dispersion interactions as well as the R-dependent spin-orbit interaction.

The specific heat of title compound was measured by adiabatic calorimeter in the temperature range 80-315 K. The phase transitions at about 304, 285 and 235 K were confirmed. A new structural phase transition at about 125 K was observed as well as new anomaly on differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) curve at about 318 K. The peculiar multiple character of C, anomalies may be explained in terms of phase transitions or intermediate phases induced by impurities. The specific heat data are in agreement with the independent DSC measurements and with preliminary X-ray studies.

Opis:
A role of mobile defects in processes responsible for II-VI compound semiconductor characteristic instability is under consideration. These defects have been shown to be responsible for electron-enhanced reactions in these materials, in particular, shallow donor creation in CdS crystals. Accumulation of mobile defects near dislocations results in some specific effects: anisotropy of conductivity induced by electric field and distortion of edge emission spectrum shape. These effects side by side with electron-enhanced defect reactions have been found to influence considerably semiconductor device characteristics.

Opis:
Some recent highlights of our optical studies on single and coupled semiconductor quantum dots are reviewed. In the first part, we concentrate on the role of spins and spin-spin interaction in nonmagnetic and magnetic single quantum dots. In the case of strictly resonant excitation of the ground state in self-assembled CdSe/ZnSe quantum dots, we find an exciton spin relaxation time, which exceeds the recombination lifetime significantly. Linear polarization has to be used for these experiments, as the electron-hole exchange interaction lifts the spin degeneracy and the eigenstates are linear combinations of spin-up and spin-down excitons. In a magnetic quantum dot, the exchange interaction between carrier spins and the spins of magnetic ions is shown to be responsible for giant magneto-optical effects. We demonstrate the formation of zero-dimensional magnetic polarons and we succeeded in measuring the magnetization on a scale of a few nanometers using the characteristic photoluminescence signal of individual quantum dots as experimental monitor. The second part is devoted to pairs of single quantum dots. On one hand, single exciton tunneling within an individual quantum dot pair is demonstrated studying single pairs of vertically correlated strain-induced and self-organized quantum dots. On the other hand, we show that in a pair of lithographically defined single dots with strongly different g-factors the energy spacing between the dot ground states can be tuned in an external magnetic field by about 10 meV, giving access to a controlled coupling between two individual quantum dots.

In this paper there are presented results of high resolution transmission electron microscope investigation concerning the structure of the Zn-Al-Si cast zinc alloy with Sr addition for crystal structure refinement after thermo-derivative analysis performed using the universal metallurgical simulator and analyzer platform. The thermo-derivative analysis allows to determine the specific points of the solidifying alloy, which is helpful for phase determination and proper heat treatment condition determination, allowing to reduce the energy costs and obtaining higher mechanical and functional properties. Using transmission electron microscopy, especially selected area diffraction method appliance it was possible to determine the phases occurring in the alloy in the state after chemical composition modification as well as after appliance of very precisely controlled cooling rate. The morphology and size of the microstructure of micro-sized eutectic was possible to determine as well the lattice parameters of the Zn α -phase. Particularly the overview will be also directed on the high resolution transmission electron microscope to achieve good insight into the structural changes on the atomic scale.

Opis:
The paper is concerned with practical studies of illuminator role in the process of acquisition of spatial information with use of laser photography device. The laser photography device working according to the time-spatial framing method needs both acquisition and illumination process to happen in a very short-time. Fulfillment of both conditions is necessary for proper operation of this device. Using a specialized laser illuminator determines the growth of information potential of the laser photography device and allows reducing parasitic impact of daylight. The presented solution not only improves typical vision systems parameters but it introduces new quality for imaging devices.

Central to any mechanistic biophysical model of radiation damage to DNA is the relationship between the amount and distribution of energy deposited in the DNA helix and the subsequent production of DNA damage. It is now clear from a number of studies that the minimum energy required to produce bond breaks in DNA is significantly lower than might be expected. For example, some biophysical models have assumed that it takes several 10s of eV to produce a double-strand break in DNA. However, using low-energy photons, we have shown that energy depositions as low as 7 eV can induce double-strand break and that this is enhanced when the DNA is hydrated, showing that free radical damage is also important.

The aim of presented paper is an investigation of the structure changes in AlSi9Cu alloy after remelting by a laser beam. Scanning transmission electron microscopy was applied for structure characterization and precipitates phase identification. In the raw material, precipitates were larger and during remelting such precipitates were dissolved and very fast crystallization came next. Observed precipitates are generally uniform: in size, shape, and chemical composition. Generally, after remelting precipitates are not uniformly distributed in the whole sample but areas with dense, nanometric precipitates are common. Numerous volumes with elongated Ti precipitates, identified as Ti(Al_{1-x}Si_{x})₃, were found. Observed precipitate can strongly affect material properties (even in a case of law Ti concentration) because it may act as a crystal nucleus for other phases.

Opis:
The paper presents the process and results of tests of the pattern recognition algorithm. The algorithm has been developed for the sensor to track the activity of the eyes. The study was conducted on a group of ten people. The group was selected, so that it was possible to determine the influence of gender, age, eye color, contact lenses and glasses on the result of the algorithm. The object of the study was also to optimize the pattern recognition algorithm in terms of CPU utilization. For this purpose the duration of the algorithm steps were measured as a function of the allocation of tasks to multiple processor cores.

In this paper we present the results of an investigation of the 1s-2p$\text{}_{+}$ intra-shallow-donor transition by means of an extremely difficult magnetotransmission experiment performed on semi-insulating GaAs. We report the temperature dependence of the transition intensity. We noticed the absence in the absorbance spectra of a well-pronounced structure which is observed at low magnetic fields in photoconductivity measurements. The results are discussed in terms of a fluctuating potential from ionized centres in semi-insulating GaAs.

Experimental investigations presented in this work were focused on the execution of a carousel system with its usability for step-by-step revolutions and the mechanism for clamping the heater, which made it possible to heat substrates individually within the range from 25°C to 300°C. This system was used for depositing the metallic Al films by the magnetron sputtering method on foil made of FeCrAl steel, which found application in the production of metallic catalytic reactors. It was found that in the case of not-heated foil the polycrystalline continuous Al film, which is separated from steel by an amorphous oxide nanofilm obtained spontaneously under influence of weather conditions, was created. The deposition of aluminium on foil heated to the temperature of 300°C caused the film marked by fine grains integrated with small forces to be formed. These differences had an influence on the morphology of the oxide films.

The new approach to the understanding of intrashallow donor transition in the reduced dimensionality systems is presented. The magnetospectroscopy experiments done on the CdTe/CdMgTe quantum well based samples, uniformly n-doped, show indications that the surprising lack of spectral sensitivity on applied photon energy can be understood as a result of sample response coming from its different regions. This "non spectroscopic" behaviour (in a sense of the Zeeman splitting) is a consequence of the properties of systems with reduced dimensionality where variety of centre locations in the structure results in continuous density of states available for absorption.

Industrial waste generates a supplementary cost for companies which must, by the force of law, take in charge their wastes, whether by their own means or through outside services. Molecular sieves used in the sections of dehydratation of natural gas become waste as soon as they are saturated and there is no possibility of regeneration. As a matter of fact, those of type 4Å are used in GP1/Z complex in Algerian company Sonatrach. Within the scope of this work the proposition to valorize these industrial wastes is put forward in the light of a series of analyses and experiments with distilled and polluted water. In this work a path is opened for further research valorization of the type 4Å saturated molecular sieves, used in the gas industry. After a simple wash with distilled water, we have noticed with the naked eye that our sample had changed color from black to white gray. We have repeated the same physical magnetism test, which was positive. We have carried a heat treatment at 100°C to remove physiosorbed water and 350°C heat treatment to remove the pore water. The surface area and pH of point of zero charge (pH_{PZC}) of used zeolite were calculated as 37.54 m² g¯¹ and 6, respectively. The surface area and the pH of point of zero charge(pH_{PZC}) of unused zeolite were calculated as 6.965 m² g¯¹ and 7, respectively.
