In this paper, we investigated the influence of size effect on thermodynamic properties of ultra-narrow wires with a simple cubic lattice, by means of two-time dependent Green functions method, adjusted to confined crystalline structures. Poles of Green functions, which defining phonon spectra, are found by solving the secular equation. For different boundary parameters, this problem is presented graphically. The temperature behavior of ultra-narrow wire thermal capacitance is compared to that of bulk structures. It turned out that in low-temperature region thermal capacitance of the ultra-narrow wire is notably lower than in the corresponding bulk sample. How this fact reflects the thermal, conducting and superconducting properties of materials, is discussed in the conclusion.

Opis:
This paper investigates the roles of different mechanisms constituting the process of electrical breakdown in vacuum. Random variable "vacuum breakdown voltage" was measured for pulse breakdowns in five types of vacuum diodes, with different values of vacuum pressure and inter-electrode gap. Conclusions about the influence of vacuum pressure and inter-electrode distance on the parameters of theoretical statistical distributions have been drawn. Based on the distribution to which the "vacuum breakdown voltage" random variable adheres, the dominance of certain breakdown mechanisms has been established for specific ranges of vacuum pressure. The observed absence of anode vacuum breakdown at small inter-electrode gaps has been given a theoretical interpretation.

Spectra of possible phonon states, as well as thermodynamic characteristics of nanocrystals (ultrathin film and quantum wire) of simple cubic crystalline structure are analyzed in this paper, using the method of two-time dependent Green functions. From energy spectra and internal energy of the system the thermal capacitance of these structures in low temperature region is found. The temperature behavior of specific heat is compared to that of corresponding bulk structure. It is shown that at extremely low temperatures thermal capacitance of quantum wire is considerably lower than the thermal capacitance of film as well as the bulk sample. Consequences of this fact are discussed in detail and its influence to thermodynamic properties of materials is estimated.

Opis:
The use of diamond as material for X-ray detector is subject of investigation and practice in radiotherapy, space and material science and technology. This paper presents the results of application of Monte Carlo method for simulation of photon transport through diamond detector. The aim is restitution and demonstrating of numerical technique for characterization of electrical properties for different detector conditions and configurations. Monte Carlo code was adopted to determine the energy deposited and dose distribution in the structure of diamond detector. Our results show that the use of numerical simulations may be of essential help in design of diamond detector systems.

Opis:
Nuclear facilities as nuclear power stations, nuclear research reactors, particle accelerators and linear accelerator in medical institution using concrete in building construction. The different type materials of the aggregate as component of concrete were analyzed to provide radiation protection. The energy deposited the transmission factor and the mass attenuation coefficients in ordinary and barite concretes have been calculated with the photon transport Monte Carlo software. The numerical simulations results show that using barite as an aggregate in the concrete is one of the solutions for gamma ray shielding. Thereat, it is shown non-destructive method for determining the gamma radiation absorption characteristics of concrete.

Opis:
Titanium alloys have found numerous applications in space research, and nuclear industry and research. Since X-rays constitute an important part of the space radiation environment, numerical simulations of radiation absorption characteristics of titanium alloys were studied in this paper. The photon transport Monte Carlo software was used for determining the energy deposited in titanium samples. The numerical results show the pronounced dependence of radiation absorption properties of different combinations of components in alloy. The results obtained are encouraging in respect of optimization of structure of alloys regarding their required features in radiation shielding.

Opis:
The experimental treatment of chosen material with laser beams, starting from continuous wave up to fs pulses, produces the necessity to find the common and sophisticated theoretical approaches to interaction modeling. For chosen materials, some laser treatment and damage analyses are performed. The provoked stresses and parameters of transport processes (penetration depth) are calculated by using the programs for electrical circuit analyses. Some inconsistencies in the treatment of large area laser-material interaction are discussed.
