Opis:
The one-parameter scaling theory is a powerful tool to investigate Anderson localization effects in disordered systems. In this paper we show that this theory can be adapted to the context of quantum chaos provided that the classical phase space is homogeneous, not mixed. The localization problem in this case is defined in momentum, not in real space. We then employ the one-parameter scaling theory to: (a) propose a precise characterization of the type of classical dynamics related to the Wigner-Dyson and Poisson statistics which also predicts in which situations Anderson localization corrections invalidate the relation between classical chaos and random matrix theory encoded in the Bohigas-Giannoni-Schmit conjecture, (b) to identify the universality class associated with the metal-insulator transition in quantum chaos. In low dimensions it is characterized by classical superdiffusion, in higher dimensions it has in general a quantum origin as in the case of disordered systems. We illustrate these two cases by studying 1d kicked rotors with non-analytical potentials and a 3d kicked rotor with a smooth potential.

Opis:
Kaolinite and montmorillonite are two clay minerals with different structures: dioctahedral 1:1 without layer charge and dioctahedral 2:1 with low layer charge. X-ray-diffraction microstructural analysis of two fractions of two reference clays (with kaolinite or montmorillonite) from the Clay Minerals Society Source Clay Repository were performed by the Voigt function method to provide microstructural data not available in the baseline studies of this Repository. A rough agreement was found between crystallite sizes determined from X-ray diffraction patterns and from images by field-emission scanning electron microscopy. In addition, the influence of swelling by ethylene-glycol on crystallite size was studied by the mentioned method. Two factors were found to affect the crystallite size variation in ethylene-glycol-treated clay minerals: (i) the increase of the unit cell in [001] direction due to the interlayer absorption of ethylene glycol molecules in the case of swelling minerals and (ii) the physisorption at the surfaces of the crystallites. Both effects operate in the case of montmorillonite, whereas just the latter one is expected in kaolinite.

Opis:
During neutron, ions or electron irradiation of materials, the surface morphology can be microroughened in different forms. Using a tandem accelerator with high current capability, 3.66 MeV Ni and Al ions were implanted into Ni-22at%Si alloy at 650ºC and intoα-Al$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$ at 1000ºC, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy observation revealed surface nanofeatures induced by the irradiations. On the Ni--Si alloy, long parallel channels are formed having a periodicity near to 2μm and a mean depth of 30 nm (atomic force microscopy measurements). Onα-Al$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$ nanopyramides with around 50 nm basis length and similar height were detected on some grains forming periodic chains. We assume that preferential sputtering produced both induced surface features.

Opis:
In spite of the diamagnetic behavior exhibited by bulk ZnO and Au, a ferromagnetic-like behavior is induced in nanoparticles of both systems by appropriate surface functionalization. By capping with thiol derivatized molecules, magnetic hysteresis is observed even at room temperature, whereas the magnetization has a very little temperature dependence. Capping induces an alteration of their electronic configuration that depends on the capping molecule, as evidenced by X-ray absorption spectroscopy, that strongly affects their magnetic properties.

We report on the study of the electron-quasiparticle interaction function in Ce$\text{}_{1-x}$RE$\text{}_{x}$ Ni$\text{}_{5}$ (RE = Pr, Nd) pseudobinary compounds for x = 0, 0.2, 0.5, 0.8, and 1 measured by means of point-contact spectroscopy. Opis:
The results of the measurements of temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity ρ(T), thermal expansion L(T) and susceptibility χ(T) on single crystal DyNi$\text{}_{5}$ in the temperature range 4.2-300 K are reported. The maximum in ρ(T) at T$\text{}_{N}$=12.2 K was observed which corresponds to the transition to antiferromagnetically ordered state. Taking into account the Bloch-Grüneisen formula for electron-phonon contribution ρ$\text{}_{ph}$(T) to ρ(T) the anisotropic magnetic contribution ρ$\text{}_{mag}$(T) was determined. We also observed the anisotropic behaviour of L(T) at low temperatures.
