Opis:
In the paper changes of neutron reflectivity of big (120×70×10 mm$\text{}^{3}$) Cu single crystalline monochromators and CoFe (8%at.) single crystalline, polarising monochromators after cold hammering of the starting plates, are described. An almost three times higher number of reflected neutrons (total reflectivity) and about 20% higher intensity in peak maximum were observed, for Cu plates (measured in reflection from (220) plane)), while the mosaic's spread was about 2 times higher than the one measured for a non-treated plate. In the case of CoFe, 3 mm thick plates, a two times higher number of reflected neutrons and almost 60% higher intensity in peak maximum were observed (measured in transmission - from (200) plane) after hammering, while the mosaic's spread increase was rather small (about 15%).

Opis:
Quantitative description of the effect of γ-irradiation of PE and PMMA on positronium formation on the trapped electrons at low temperatures is suggested. The consideration shows that, at least in these substances, the number of the trapping centers is probably enough to localize all ortho-positronium, and therefore the intensity of the long-lived positronium component is dependent mostly on the probability of Ps formation but not on the number of the trapping centers.

Opis:
A relation between positronium annihilation characteristics and concentration of elementary free volumes is considered for the case of positronium formation before its localization. We estimated the diffusion coefficient of nonlocalized positronium (≈10$\text{}^{-4}$ cm$\text{}^{2}$/s). The positron annihilation lifetime studies of uniaxial compression and annealing of some glassy polymers revealed variations of the shape of elementary free volumes size-distributions.

Rapid densification of yttria (Y₂O₃) ceramics without sintering aids via spark plasma sintering at relatively low temperature of 1300°C for 40 minutes at two-step pressure profile, followed by post-annealing at 1050°C for 6 hours in air was attempted. Effect of preload pressure on microstructure, Vickers hardness, fracture toughness and optical in-line transmittance was investigated. Densification during spark plasma sintering did not involve any phase transformation and all phases have shown cubic structure according to X-ray analysis. The highest hardness and fracture toughness value was recorded to be 7.60±0.18 GPa and 1.16±0.07 MPa m^{1/2} with 10 MPa preload and 100 MPa final load. In addition to this, the highest transmittance with a value of 76.7% at a wavelength of 2000 nm was obtained when studied with 10 MPa preload and 100 MPa final load.

This work aimed to improve the physicochemical properties of a low carbon steel C15 by a nitriding treatment in a salt bath at 580°C. The micrographs of treated sample show that the nitriding treatment causes significant structural changes, it is allowed to delineate the nitriding layer. The X-ray diffraction and the Raman spectroscopy of the treated samples permitted to identify different nitrides (Fe_{2-3}N, Fe₄N) formed. The obtained hardness profile determines the nitriding depth. Potentiodynamic curves show that the corrosion current density of treated C15 is the 10 times lower than untreated specimen. The values of impedance parameters obtained after nitriding treatment indicate that the resistance values and exponent n increase, whereas the capacitance decreases. We concluded that the nitriding treatment is an effective method for improvement of the corrosion behavior and surface properties of the low alloy steel C15.

Opis:
The quotient cohomology of tiling spaces is a topological invariant that relates a tiling space to one of its factors, viewed as topological dynamical systems. In particular, it is a relative version of the tiling cohomology that distinguishes factors of tiling spaces. In this work, the quotient cohomologies within certain families of substitution tiling spaces in 1 and 2 dimensions are determined. Specifically, the quotient cohomologies for the family of the generalised Thue-Morse sequences and generalised chair tilings are presented.

The I(V) characteristics of amorphous chalcogenides usually show a negative differential conductance region, which makes the material switch from a high-resistive to a high-conductive state. This feature is of the utmost importance for adopting these materials in the manufacturing of solid-state memory devices. We propose here two complementary models for the interpretation of the switching mechanism, both stemming from and updating the literature analysis. The former is based on macroscopic equations that can be solved analytically; the latter is a current-driven three-dimensional Monte Carlo simulation of the device. A critical analysis of the two models is also performed in order to identify the fundamental conditions accounting for the voltage snap-back of the I(V) curve.

Opis:
In this study, methanol vapor sensing of porous silicon was investigated. The porous silicon samples were anodized in HF based solution and rinsed with ethanol or deionized water after the anodisation. Porous silicon surface is very sensitive for methanol vapor sensing and the sensitivity affect from the rinsing procedure of porous silicon. The experimental results show that porous silicon is a promising candidate material for sensing methanol vapor.

This work is aimed to study the effect of a biological medium simulated body fluid on surface modification of titanium alloy Ti6Al4V. Electrochemical techniques and the Raman spectroscopy are used. Polarization curves, plotted at different scan rates (5, 1, 0.5, and 0.2 mV/s), show a large range of passivation (above 3000 mV), with no occurrence of transpassivation. The return sweep shows the negative hysteresis with the shift of the corrosion potential in the more noble direction. The corrosion current is generally very low. These observations clearly confirm the high stability of the TiO₂ passive film. The Raman spectroscopy shows that titanium dioxide formed consists of rutile phase. It was found that the scan rate has not a significant effect on the passivation phenomenon. However, it influences the corrosion potential and the current density. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy allowed to establish the Nyquist diagrams and Bode around the equilibrium potential, and at different imposed potentials in the passivation field. The system behavior is not purely capacitive and so it is necessary to take in consideration the constant phase element. The impedance diagrams at different imposed potentials on the passivation field are composed only of a single loop.

Si₃N₄-SiC micro-nano composite powder has been studied by a group of authors during the last decade. Previous works have shown that SiC-Si₃N₄ ceramics exhibits good mechanical properties and high corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures. In this study, we have tried a new approach to obtaining SiC-Si₃N₄ ceramic composite powder by changing the conditions in the carbothermal reduction process. Starting powders were quartz mineral, received from Ege-Sil Co., as silicon-source and, carbon, as silica-reducing and carburizing agent. These powders were ground in the ring mill, separately and together. Carbothermal reduction-nitridation/carburization reactions were carried out in a tube furnace at >1400°C for 4 hours under N₂ and Ar gas, used as nitriding and shielding atmosphere. The synthesized powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction, SEM, and EDS. Results have shown that production of Si₃N₄-SiC micro-nano composite powder was achieved in the modified nitrogen and argon atmosphere above 1400°C. Determination of the Si₃N₄/SiC ratio was possible with sensitive control of the system conditions.

In this study, the quadrupole moments of the $\text{}^{166-180}Hf,$ $\text{}^{180-186}W$ and $\text{}^{152-168}Sm$ isotopic chains have been calculated by using the Woods-Saxon mean field potential in the framework of the superfluid model of the atomic nucleus. Our calculation showed that the deformation parameter mainly used in literature overestimates the actual values of deformation parameters β₂ by 10% for the well-deformed rare-earth nuclei. Besides, the contribution of the hexadecapole deformation to all quadrupole moments in question is smaller than 0.01 barn. The results showed that the theoretical values of the quadrupole moments are in good agreement with the previous theoretical works which have been done only for Sm isotopes and the corresponding experimental data for nuclei in question. The best theoretical value for quadrupole moment has been reached for the $\text{}^{152}Sm$ isotope.

Freezing-thawing processes hapenning in seasonally cold climate cause deformation of soil in time of freezing and strength loss while thawing. Problems of ground frost heave and soil softening belong to the important factors, that could cause serious damage and financial loss. Bayburt tuff and tuffites known as Bayburt Stone mines, located around Bayburt, play important role on economy of the Bayburt city. As a result of researches in 2005 total of 2 535 700 tons proved reserve were determined several places in Bayburt. The goal of this study is proving, that deposits of Green Bayburt Stone wastes, created in the stone quarries during the stone processing, can be used as a stabilizing material. By recycling the waste material rejected stone was mixed with lime and used as a soil stabilizator against freezing-thawing effect. Prepared natural and stabilized soil samples were subjected to freezing-thawing cycles after curing for 28 days. After the freezing-thawing cycles, compressive strength of the samples was measured to investigate the influence of the additives on the freezing-thawing properties of soil samples. As a result of this study, it was determined that samples stabilized with Green Bayburt Stone mixtures have high freezing-thawing durability as compared to unstabilized samples. As a consequence, it was seen that those mixtures can be successfully used as an additive material to enhance the freezing-thawing effects of cohessive soils.

The Extended Hückel Theory (EHT) has been used to calculate the energy of iron clusters, Fe$\text{}_{13}$, modelling an Fe(100) surface, as well as the energy of iron clusters with oxygen, Fe$\text{}_{13}$-O, nitrogen, Fe$\text{}_{13}$-N, or carbon atom, Fe$\text{}_{13}$-C, adsorbed on a reconstructed/non-reconstructed surface.
