Opis:
A detailed stability analysis is performed for a highly excited semiconductor modelled as an exciton-electron-hole-photon system driven externally by optical pumping. Chaotic self-pulsations are shown to occur on both the upper and lower branches of the bistable steady state curve of the system via a sequence of period-doubling oscillation process. Such a route to chaos is well known in laser physics and in other nonlinear systems but not in highly excited semiconductors yet.

Opis:
Criteria for the possible number of exciton surface states in a multilayer molecular slab are elucidated in detail. Namely, we explicitly determine the domains of system parameters where the size dependence plays a role. We further clarify the way a surface state is localized in the slab in both asymmetric and symmetric configurations. Basing on our results which are obtained within the first nearest layer approximation, we also conjecture properties to be expected when further nearest layers are taken into consideration.

Opis:
A composite of polystyrene (PS)/ferroelectric barium stannate titanate (BST) with different BST concentration was prepared. The dielectric properties were measured using HP low impedance frequency analyzer. It is found that samples behaved as an RC network. Composites become more capacitive than resistive with increasing frequency while resistance decreases with increasing BST ceramic concentration. Temperature effects were monitored throughout the annealing process. It is found that the capacity and the ac conductivity increased after annealing while the bulk resistance decreased. Our results suggest that, the obtained material is expected to be a promising candidate for electronic ceramics. The study provides a better understanding of the relationship among these parameters.

Two-dimensional images of the artificial magnetic field created by permanent magnets were obtained by means of the Faraday magnetic rotation effect. This provides a convenient and effective means to observe and measure macro-scale magnetic field, as well as lays a base for three-dimensional optical imaging of magnetic field. The magnetic field imaging here can also be considered as a key part of the magnetic rotation geomagnetic field imaging method which we put forward before, and will provide experimental support for this method.

Opis:
Electron beams with energies ≥ 100 keV offer attractive possibilities to modify metallic surfaces. Numerous experiments with the electron accelerators GESA I and II showed excellent results regarding the improvement of mechanical properties and the enhancement of the corrosion resistance of the treated materials. The next step leads to further technological adaptation of the process that especially was focused on the adaptation of the electron beam to the surface geometry. For the treatment of the outer surface of tubes the electron beam facility GESA IV with a radial converged electron beam was designed. In first experiments unexpected electrical short-circuiting after different time periods occurred. Two major reasons could be identified: excessive plasma formation at the cathode and target plasma formation. The latter can be controlled by vacuum conditions and surface cleaning of the target, the first by controlling the duration of plasma formation at the cathode.

Bistable output-input light characteristics in the exciton spectral region have been examined in a ring cavity configuration taking ito account the influence of the presence of free carriers in the cavity as well as of the density-dependence of the exciton damping. The resulting modifications could serve as a means to optimize the optical bistable device operation.

Opis:
As the most important material parameter of semiconductor, bandgap is necessary to be investigated to meet the design requirements of the high-performance optoelectronic devices. A new method of is proposed to calibrate the bandgap of antimonide based multi-component alloys with considering the effect of spin-orbit splitting off bands and the doublet degeneracy of valance band on the bandgaps of Sb-containing materials. A correction factor is introduced in the conventional calculation, and the spin-orbit splitting method is proposed. Besides, the In_xGa_{1-x}As_ySb_{1-y} films with different compositions are grown on GaSb substrates by molecular beam epitaxy, and the corresponding bandgaps are obtained by photoluminescence to test the accuracy and reliability of this new method. An error rate analysis reveals that the α calculated by the spin-orbit splitting correction method is decreased to 2%, almost one order of magnitude smaller than the Moon method, which means that the new method can calculate the antimonide multicomponent more accurately with some applicability. This work can give a reasonable interpretation for the reported results and beneficial to tailor the antimonides properties and optoelectronic devices.

Opis:
Scanning tunneling microscopy studies have revealed a periodic step-terrace structure in the (100) surface of the Ag-In-Yb 1/1 cubic approximant. The step height between the large terraces is about 0.73 nm, approximately one-half of the lattice constant, which is consistent with the bcc-like crystalline structure of this crystal. Two small terraces are observed between the adjacent large terraces. High-resolution STM images of the large terrace exhibit a square lattice of protrusions with a lattice constant of about 1.55 nm, which is consistent with the bulk lattice constant. The scanning tunneling microscopy results suggest that the large terraces are associated with the planes that intersect the centers of rhombic triacontrahedral clusters (the building unit of the crystal) and show the highest atomic density along the [100] axis. It is highly likely that the small terraces are related to moderate atomic density planes and are less stable than the large terraces.

The X-Ray Standing Wave Method (XRSW) was applied for the investigation of the silicon samples implanted with 80 keV Fe and Ni ions. The samples were measured by the XRSW method before and after annealing process. For theoretical calculations the two layer model was used. The analysis revealed that after annealing only a slight amount (~20÷30%) of the implanted atoms occupy the position of the Si crystal planes. The Rutherford backscattering (RBS) experiment that confirms the results obtained by the XRSW method was performed.

Opis:
Intense pulsed electron beams have been applied for surface modification of materials in our laboratory for several years. An improvement of properties like wear, corrosion and oxidation resistance was found. Three different modification modes can be distinguished: rapid melting and solidification, surface alloying of coatings into the bulk and surface fusing of coatings to the bulk. All three surface treatment processes were investigated using the GESA (Gepulste Elektronen Strahl Anlage) facilities having following parameters: accelerating voltage 80-400 kV; power-density 2-6 MW/$cm^{2}$; beam diameter 4-10 cm; pulse duration 4-250 μs. Such pulses applied on material surfaces lead to a change in microstructure and in the case of surface alloying also to a change in chemical composition. This paper will give an overview on applications in different fields of surface modified materials.

We present a study of the Cerenkov configuration second harmonic generation in X-cut ion-implanted lithium niobate waveguides. An approximate solution of conversion efficiency is given and plotted which shows that it is very sensitive to the waveguide depth and pump wavelength. The results can be used in the design of waveguides for the efficient second harmonic generation in the Cerenkov configuration.
