Opis:
The well-known model potential is used to investigate the longitudinal and transverse phonon dispersion curves for six Ni-based binary amorphous alloys, viz. Ni$\text{}_{31}$Dy$\text{}_{69}$, Ni$\text{}_{33}$Y$\text{}_{67}$, Ni$\text{}_{36}$Zr$\text{}_{64}$, Ni$\text{}_{50}$Zr$\text{}_{50}$, Ni$\text{}_{60}$ Nb$\text{}_{40}$, and Ni$\text{}_{81}$B$\text{}_{19}$. The thermodynamic and elastic properties are also computed from the elastic limits of the phonon dispersion curves. The theoretical approach given by Hubbard-Beeby is used in the present study to compute the phonon dispersion curves. Five local field correction functions proposed by Hartree, Taylor, Ichimaru-Utsumi, Farid et al. and Sarkar et al. are employed to see the effect of exchange and correlation in the aforesaid properties.

Opis:
The photoconductivity measurements were carried out for bulk single crystals of TlS$\text{}_{2}$ by using the steady state (dc) method in order to elucidate the nature of the dc photoconductivity in these crystals. The photoconductivity measurements were carried out in the temperature range of 77-300 K, excitation intensity range of 2150-5050 lx, applied voltage range of 10-25 V, and wavelength range of 400-915 nm. As a result of the dc photoconductivity, the temperature dependence of the energy gap width was described and the temperature coefficient of the band gap was determined. Reflectance and transmittance spectra of the TlS$\text{}_{2}$ thin films were measured in the incident photon energy range of 2.1-2.45 eV and in the temperature range of 77-300 K. With the aid of these spectra, the temperature dependence of optical transports and parameters were elucidated. In the low energy region of the studied incident photon energy range, the above-mentioned spectra were analyzed for describing the refractive index as a function of wavelength. As results of the refractive index-wavelength variations, both the oscillator and dispersion energies of the refractive index were thereafter estimated.

We analyse the three-colour electromagnetically induced transparency for the D$\text{}_{1}$ transition in cold $\text{}^{87}$Rb atoms. We report an enhancement of the electromagnetically induced emission of a drive field as an exclusive enhancement of the third- and fourth-rank components of the density matrix. Moreover, the gain experienced by the drive field is attributed to the influence of the quantum switching effect on the increased absorption of the probe field. The electromagnetically induced emission effect is employed to generate slow light Gaussian-wave trains with shape preserving. These soliton trains were not only generated in the drive channel as has been designated but also in the switch channel which reveals multiple-light storage phenomenon.

On the example of monolayer manganites we show that the theoretical ideas developed long ago along the derivation of the spin t-J model from the Hubbard model are nowadays very helpful in strongly correlated oxides with partly filled degenerate orbitals. We analyze a realistic orbital t-J model for e$\text{}_{g}$ electrons in La$\text{}_{1-x}$Sr$\text{}_{1+x}$MnO$\text{}_{4}$ monolayer manganites, and discuss the evolution of spin and orbital correlations under increasing doping by performing exact diagonalization of finite clusters, with electronic kinetic energy determined self-consistently at a finite temperature by classical Monte Carlo for t$\text{}_{2g}$ spins. Several experimental results are reproduced.

The Migration Period on the present Polish territories is considered as a time of depopulation of Oder, Warta, and Vistula basins. The prerequisite for such assumption is lack of the archaeological finds in these regions. In contrast, on the Mrągowo Lake District and in the Lyna basin, one can find wealth of burial crematory equipped with items from the Roman period and made in the Germanic style. The analyses using the physics techniques gives an opportunity to the meeting of history with the contemporary times and the lost things may see the light of present day. The discovered artefacts may constitute a source of knowledge, which, after analysis, will be able to fill the gaps on the map of settlements in the Polish territories. The energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence system was used to analyze the set of Polish archaeological artefacts found in an excavation in Masurian Lakes District. The compact X-ray tube developed in the National Centre for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) was used as an X-ray source in the system designed for the energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence studies. The X-ray fluorescence spectra of the artefacts were registered with the Amptek SDD spectrometer and the concentrations of elements were determined. The measurements show that the X-ray system developed in NCBJ with transmission type X-ray tube and the Amptek SDD spectrometer is an effective tool for chemical composition analyses of archaeological objects and can be successfully applied in archaeometry.

In a field emission tube with two probe-holes the cross-correlation functions of current fluctuations from potassium submonolayers on tungsten have been investigated. The measurements were carried out in the temperature range of 290-430 K and with coverages between 0.05 and 0.87. The experimental correlation curves were approximated by a sum of three exponential functions revealing three components with different time constants τ$\text{}_{i}$ and amplitudes R. The temperature dependence of the amplitudes R$\text{}_{2}$ and R$\text{}_{3}$ is discussed in terms of collective flip-flop processes.

Inhomogeneous spin and charge orderings in doped two-dimensional correlated electron systems described by the extended Hubbard Hamiltonian were investigated. At the crossover from stripe phases to charge order phases, the novel types of ordering connected with highly symmetric superlattice-type spin and charge patterns were identified. In particular, the emergence of local hexagonal-like symmetry is of interest as such patterns are generic in complex, nonlinear dynamic systems.

The motion of a single hole doped to a CuO$\text{}_{2}$ plane of a high temperature superconductor is described by a spin-fermion model which treats explicitly the hybridization with the upper Hubbard band. One finds that sectors of Zhang-Rice bound states coexist with reasonably damped oxygen and copper-like quasiparticles, with a considerable transfer of the spectral weight to the upper Hubbard band. The oxygen states have small dispersions and can be identified in the angle-resolved photoemission experiments for Bi$\text{}_{2}$Sr$\text{}_{2}$CaCu$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{8}$.

Motivated by the difference between the experimental phase diagram of cuprates and expectations of the t-J model, we analyze the influence of the electronic structure on superconducting state generation for small levels of doping. Following some theoretical studies of the Fermi surface for hole doped superconducting cuprates we base our calculations on the t-t'-t''-J model. We construct the spin polaron model, which is an effective model for the t-J model, and we expand it by adding the new terms related to the next neighbor hopping integrals t' and t''. In the framework of this model we study evolutions of superconducting correlation functions with doping. As a result of numerical calculations we find out that superconducting state vanishes for small levels of doping and finite values of t' and t''. This is in qualitative agreement with experimental results.

We review some recent results obtained for the dynamics of a single hole and for the ground states at finite hole doping in t-J model. Next, we address the role of orbital degeneracy in doped Mott-Hubbard insulators and show examples of effective strong coupling models which include the orbital degrees of freedom. These new t-J models have interesting phase diagrams, with the new magnetic phases stabilized by a competition between magnetic energy and excitonic excitations. It is argued that the doped holes always bind to the excitons and that the new phases identified on the mean-field level give rise to local distortions of the lattice. We conclude that realistic t-J models derived from the electronic structure of particular compounds may be successfully applied for understanding both the observed magnetic ground states, and the results of photoemission experiments, as we have demonstrated recently for NiO.
