Opis:
Circular and concentric circular antenna array patterns are synthesized to generate array factors with minimum side-lobe level and high directivity. The comprehensive learning differential search algorithm is used for synthesizing a one-and a three-ring circular and concentric circular antenna array with thirty elements. This synthesis is done by finding the optimum inter-element spacing of rings, phases and/or positions that give optimum side lobe level. The computational results show that side lobe level is reduced significantly in non-uniform case for concentric in comparison with a single ring.

Entropy is a quantity characterizing the arrow of time in the evolution of a physical system - in every irreversible process the entropy increases. In elementary interactions such as relativistic collisions of two atomic nuclei there is considerable particle production and hence entropy production. We address here a number of questions which arise naturally in this context. When and how is entropy produced in a quantum process, such as is a nuclear collision? How is the particle production related to entropy production? How does one measure the entropy produced in the reaction? We also consider certain fundamental approaches to the problem of entropy definition in quantum physics.

Opis:
Electromagnetically induced transparency is an important tool for controlling light propagation and nonlinear wave mixing in atomic gases with potential applications ranging from quantum computing to table top tests of general relativity. Here we consider electromagnetically induced transparency in an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate trapped in a double well potential. One well is prepared as in standard electromagnetically induced transparency with a weak probe laser and control laser in a Λp configuration while tunneling between the wells provides a coherent coupling between identical electronic states in the two wells leading to the formation of spatially delocalized inter-well dressed states. The macroscopic inter-well coherence of the Bose-Einstein condensate wave function qualitatively modifies the normal electromagnetically induced transparency linear susceptibility and leads to the formation of additional absorption resonances and larger dispersion than electromagnetically induced transparency. We show that these new resonances can be interpreted in terms of the inter-well dressed states and the formation of a novel type of dark state involving the control laser and the inter-well tunneling.

The room temperature Mössbauer spectra of $\text{}^{57}$Fe were measured for the bcc Fe$\text{}_{0.948}$Cr$\text{}_{0.052}$ solid solution quenched into water being at about 295 K from different temperatures not exceeding 1000 K, i.e. from the temperatures for which probabilities of formation of "clear" (Schottky) vacancies as well as vacancies forming the separate interstitial-vacancy (Frenkel) pairs are negligibly low. The obtained data were analysed in terms of concentration of unoccupied places in the 14-site surroundings of an $\text{}^{57}$Fe Mössbauer probe in the sample. It turned out that the concentration of vacancies detected by the probe increases with temperature very rapidly - at the rate of about 10$\text{}^{-4}$ K$\text{}^{-1}$. The result may suggest that the Mössbauer probe is sensitive to a possible thermal distortion of the lattice or creation of very close Frenkel pairs (the interstitial is the nearest neighbour of the vacant lattice site).

We review the dynamical behavior of strongly electron-lattice (orbital) coupled system induced by photo-excitation of fs laser pulse. By virtue of the femtosecond (fs) spectroscopy and picosecond (ps) time-resolved X-ray diffraction measurements, we demonstrate that the photo-irradiation creates new ordered state so called as "hidden phase" which can never be realized under thermo-equilibrium condition. This exotic phase commonly plays the key role for realizing the gigantic photo-induced changes in optical properties of inorganic and organic electron-lattice strongly coupled systems.

The resonance Raman spectra of tetracyanoquinodimethane anion (TCNQ$\text{}^{-}$) and naphthalene cation (C$\text{}_{10}$H$\text{}_{8}^{+}$) are analyzed in terms of theoretical model based on the Franck-Condon effects. The model includes also the effect of rotation of totally symmetric normal coordinates upon electronic excitation to the resonant state (Dushinsky effects). It is shown that such a simple model accounts correctly for the available resonance Raman spectra for TCNQ$\text{}^{-}$ and C$\text{}_{10}$H$\text{}_{8}^{+}$ radicals. The possible model refinements such as vibronic coupling effects are also briefly discussed.

Opis:
Finite element modeling allows the optimization of metalworking processes and enhances the quality of the product, in terms of properties and microstructure, as attested by the success of recent finite element modeling codes in simulating the microstructural evolution during hot deformation. Hot working of metals involves several concurring phenomena; in particular, dynamic and static recrystallizations depend on the energy stored in the grains during and after deformation, i.e. on the strain accumulated in the material. As a result, the correct estimation of the accumulated strain plays a crucial role in modelling the final microstructure. A new constitutive model based on the combination of the Garofalo and Hensel-Spittel equations has been thus recently proposed to describe the plastic flow behavior of an aluminum alloys. The new equation was used in the present paper to model the equivalent stress vs. equivalent strain curved obtained by testing in torsion between 550 and 700°C a CW602N (Cu-36%Zn-2%Pb-As) brass. Interpolation of the experimental data using the constitutive model resulted in an excellent description of the flow curves, thus demonstrating that the combined use of the new equation and of torsion testing can be safely adopted in a computer code to simulate forging or extrusion.

SQUID magnetic measurements of CdTe/Cd$\text{}_{1-x}$Mn$\text{}_{x}$Te, x ≃ 0.5, multi-layers with different CdMnTe layer thickness w reveal the persistence of the spin-glass irreversibilities down to ≃ 16 Å thin layers, i.e., well beyond the previously postulated 40 Å as a quasi-2D threshold. The freezing temperature T$\text{}_{f}$ is found to be a monotonic function of w, and it obeys a scaling law T$\text{}_{f}$ ∝ w$\text{}^{a}$, with a 0.8 similar to that for canonical spin-glasses. Magnetic properties of all studied structures are found to be independent of the orientation of the magnetic field.

Thin film series consisting of Ti, V, TiO₂ and V₂O₅ layer with different layer geometries, sequences and thicknesses have been prepared by the sputtering technique. The hydrogen depth profile of selected films upon hydrogen charging at 1 bar and/or hydrogenation at pressure up to 102 bar was determined by using secondary ion mass spectrometry and nuclear reaction analysis using a N-15 beam. The highest hydrogen storage with a concentration up to 50 at.% was found in the pure Ti and Ti-contained layer, while it amounts to around 30% in the metallic Ti-V-Ni layer. Hydrogen can diffuse through the TiO₂ layer without accumulation, but can be stored in the VO₂ layer in some cases. Hydrogen can remove the preferential Ti orientation in the films and induce a complete transition of V₂O₅ into VO₂ in the films.
