Opis:
The properties of linear combinations of peak positions are analysed. It is concluded that the distribution of combinations contains the information on lattice constants. These combinations are represented by sharp maxima. Examples of the distribution for a powder pattern of orthorhombic symmetry are presented.

Opis:
Simulations of laser sheet scattering by microparticles, based on the generalized Lorenz-Mie theory for the case of numerous random spatial distributions of scattering particles, were done, using the novel computational time saving strategy. This type of scattering by particles immersed in a fluid flow and its recording on cameras, presents the essence of particle image velocimetry systems. The continuous and large change of the intensity of a scattered light falling on the camera causes the sequences of images of varying quality, which makes many of them useless. This paper shows how the problem could be alleviated by determining the angles of low relative standard deviation of scattered light intensity and using them for recording, as well as by avoiding the angles of high relative standard deviation of scattered light intensity.

Opis:
Dielectric studies were performed for several isothiocyanato-tolane compounds having the F atom attached to the benzene rings at different lateral positions and the alkoxy or alkyl chain at the p-position. They form the nematic phase in broad temperature intervals. The static as well as dynamic properties of the compounds in the nematic and isotropic phases were studied. Tensor permittivity components: ε$\text{}_{ǁ}$, ε$\text{}_{⊥}$, Δε, as functions of temperature were measured. The complex dielectric permittivity, ε$\text{}^{*}$(f)=ε'(f)-iε''(f), was measured in the frequency range of 1 kHz - 3 GHz from which the relaxation times τ$\text{}_{ǁ}$ and τ$\text{}_{⊥}$ were calculated. The order parameter S(T) was determined from the dielectric data. It was found that the close vicinity of the F atom and the alkoxy group results in blocking of the internal rotation of the wing around the O-phenyl bond.

Opis:
Sound power level of a noise source is determined by means of sound pressure level or sound intensity level measurements performed in accordance to relevant ISO standards. The determination of sound power level according to ISO 3744, 3745 and 3746 standards is used for free field or for approximated free field conditions. Kinds of measurement surfaces, enveloping the noise source, number of microphones and their positions over the measurement surface are stated in the applied ISO standard. The effects of measurement surface and number of microphone positions on the determination of sound power level were investigated theoretically. As a measurement surface; hemisphere, parallelepiped rectangular box and cylindrical surfaces were selected. Key and additional microphone positions were taken into account in the calculations as well. Sound pressure levels of a commercially available reference sound source were measured in hemi-anechoic room using FFT with 4 Hz steps and also at 1/1, 1/3, 1/12 and 1/24 octave bands for all surfaces defined in ISO 3744 and 3746 standards. Sound power level, directivity index and uncertainty contributions resulting from measurement surfaces and number of microphone positions were calculated by using data obtained in measurements. In this paper the theoretical and experimental results are presented.

Opis:
The optical band positions and spin-Hamiltonian parameters (g factors $g_{i}$ and hyperfine structure constants $A_{i}$, where i=x, y, z) of the rhombic $VO^{2+}$ complex in CsCl crystal are calculated together from two theoretical methods. One is the complete diagonalization (of energy matrix) method and another is the perturbation theory method. The calculated results from the two methods coincide and are in reasonable agreement with the experimental values. So, both methods are effective in the explanations of optical and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) data for $d^1$ ions in crystals. The calculations also suggest that in $d^1$ rhombic octahedra the ground state is almost a pure | $d_{xy}$ ⟩ state. This point is different from that of conjugate $d^9$ (e.g., $Cu^{2+}$) ions in rhombic octahedra where the ground state should be an admixture of ground and first excited states.

Opis:
The local structure, two optical band positions and three electronic spin resonance parameters for $Cu^{2+}$ centers at the tetragonally-distorted octahedral sites in $ZnO-Bi_2O_3-B_2O_3-CuO$ glasses are calculated from the high-order perturbation method based on the two-spin-orbit-parameter model, where the contributions from both the spin-orbit coupling parameters of central $d^{n}$ ion and ligand ion are included. The theoretical results are in good agreement with the experimental values. The calculations show that the high-order perturbation method based on the two-spin-orbit-parameter model is effective in the explanations of optical spectra, electronic spin resonance parameters and local distortion structure for $d^{9}$ ions in glasses.
