Opis:
The appearance of material with negative values of dielectric and magnetic permeabilities ε and μ and with negative index of refraction n forces to revise the accustomed forms of some well-known formulae of electrodynamics. This is connected with fact, that these correlations in repressing majority of sources is written in tacit suggestion that magnetic permeability of most of materials is μ=1, factor of refraction n=ε and is undoubtedly executed the correlation n > 0. Such approach could be named as "nonmagnetic". However, if n <0, this nonmagnetic approach can bring very hard mistakes.

Opis:
Here, we present the domain wall dynamics in thin magnetic wires that exhibit even negative mobility regime. Such a regime is well below the Walker limit and is a result of structural relaxation. It disappears at high frequencies and it can be enhanced by application of mechanical stress. Moreover, the domain wall velocity was found to be almost field-independent at certain measuring conditions. Anyway, the domain wall velocity remains quite high (> 450 m/s) in this regime.

Opis:
The paper describes the behavior of financial markets as functions of the variables ``price return'' and ``time'' based on the net difference between ask and bid volumes over a unit period, thereby suggesting that at least a negative non-trivial price return extreme exists for a unit period. This admittedly heuristic approach also offers a method for approximating these negative price return extremes for a specific unit period. Limitations and applications are discussed.

The analysis of the temperature dependence of the photoconductivity, amplitude in doped GaAlAs, provides a simple and convincing proof of the negative sign of the Hubbard correlation energy U, strictly speaking of the two-electron nature of the thermal emission process from DX centers. The proof is based on a comparison of the emission activation energy measured per emission event (DLTS) with that measured per electron.

Opis:
The electron energy spectrum of many superconducting materials is characterised by the presence of few bands at the Fermi level. In some cases the superconducting properties seem to be dominated by single band but in others the many-band approach is essential ingredient of their description. In this paper we shall study the properties of superconducting impurity placed in a non-superconducting medium. We are interested in the evolution of superconducting correlations within non-superconducting 1- or 2-dimensional system, their dependence on the distance from impurity and changes induced by the presence of the second band and interband scattering. We use real space description of the material and Bogolyubov-de Gennes approach to superconductivity.

Opis:
Magnetoresistance of layered high-T$\text{}_{c}$ systems with quasi-two-dimensional superconductivity in magnetic field H applied parallel to superconducting planes was investigated theoretically. In such configuration an increase in the magnetic field intensity decreases the critical temperature of superconducting regions. It causes both a suppression of the gap parameter Δ and an increase in the tunneling current between the decoupled superconducting planes and, as a consequence, leads to negative magnetoresistance. The dependence of tunneling current on H was calculated for superconducting layer thickness d$\text{}_{S}$ smaller than the superconducting correlation length. The results can be used for analysis of current-voltage characteristics of both superconductor-insulator-superconductor and superconductor-insulator normal metal multilayered tunnel structures.

We perform an analysis of fractal properties of the positive and the negative changes of the German DAX30 index separately using multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis. By calculating the singularity spectra f(α) we show that returns of both signs reveal multiscaling. Curiously, these spectra display a significant difference in the scaling properties of returns with opposite sign. The negative price changes are ruled by stronger temporal correlations than the positive ones, which is manifested by larger values of the corresponding Hölder exponents. As regards the properties of dominant trends, a bear market is more persistent than the bull market irrespective of the sign of fluctuations.

Based on the log-periodic power law methodology, with the universal preferred scaling factor λ ≈2, the negative bubble on the oil market in 2014-2016 has been detected. Over the same period a positive bubble on the so-called commodity currencies expressed in terms of the US dollar appears to take place with the oscillation pattern which largely is mirror reflected relative to oil price oscillation pattern. It documents recent strong anticorrelation between the dynamics of the oil price and of the USD. A related forecast made at the time of FENS 2015 conference (beginning of November) turned out to be quite satisfactory. These findings provide also further indication that such a log-periodically accelerating down-trend signals termination of the corresponding decreases.

We study the optical transmission spectra in one-dimensional aperiodic Thue-Morse multilayers composed from alternating layers of media with positive and negative refractive index. We examine the influence of phase compensation on the spectral transmission for both on-axis and off-axis wave propagation. The origin of the transmission resonances and their relation with the field localization are analyzed. Nondispersive and lossless, as well as realistic dispersive and weakly lossy materials are considered.

Exact diagonalization calculations in the Haldane spherical geometry are carried out for the three-body Coulomb problem in a quasi-two-dimensional quantum well, in the presence of perpendicular magnetic field. Simultaneous inclusion of several Landau levels and quantum well subbands in the configuration-interaction basis allowed for quantitative description of the coupling between the in-plane dynamics (governed by interplay of cyclotron quantization and Coulomb interactions) and single-particle excitations in the normal direction. The energy spectra of negative and positive trions are compared in symmetric and asymmetric wells with realistic widths and carrier concentrations. Effects of nearby impurities are also studied.

Tunneling investigations of ferromagnetic La$\text{}_{0.6}$Sr$\text{}_{0.4}$MnO$\text{}_{3}$ ceramic samples showing negative magnetoresistance effect were carried out in two types of junctions: symmetric "break junctions" and asymmetric ceramics-insulator-metal junctions. The results are consistent with the presence of small ferromagnetic clusters in the insulating barriers of both types of junctions and suggest a two-phase state realized by impurity mechanism of phase separation.

We study the peculiarities of coherency in the superconductivity of two-orbital system. The superconducting phase transition is caused here by the on-site intra-orbital attractions (negative-U Hubbard model) and inter-orbital pair-transfer interaction. The dependencies of critical and non-critical correlation lengths on interaction channels and band fillings are analyzed.

Opis:
An extremely simple first order RC high-pass filter is suggested to suppress harmful radio frequency oscillations, induced by high power electromagnetic pulses. Specifically, a broadband single stage transistor amplifier with a parasitic wiring inductance and also the parasitic junction and mounting capacitances are investigated both numerically and experimentally in the very high and ultrahigh frequency bands.

Opis:
Currents and their fluctuations in two capacitively coupled single electron transistors were studied within the sequential tunneling approach. A special attention was focused on the effect of the negative differential resistance, which appears due to the Coulomb interactions of accumulated charges on both the single electron transistors. In this case large polarization fluctuations are activated, which results in a significant enhancement of the current shot noise.
