Opis:
Electromagnetically induced transparency is an important tool for controlling light propagation and nonlinear wave mixing in atomic gases with potential applications ranging from quantum computing to table top tests of general relativity. Here we consider electromagnetically induced transparency in an atomic Bose-Einstein condensate trapped in a double well potential. One well is prepared as in standard electromagnetically induced transparency with a weak probe laser and control laser in a Λp configuration while tunneling between the wells provides a coherent coupling between identical electronic states in the two wells leading to the formation of spatially delocalized inter-well dressed states. The macroscopic inter-well coherence of the Bose-Einstein condensate wave function qualitatively modifies the normal electromagnetically induced transparency linear susceptibility and leads to the formation of additional absorption resonances and larger dispersion than electromagnetically induced transparency. We show that these new resonances can be interpreted in terms of the inter-well dressed states and the formation of a novel type of dark state involving the control laser and the inter-well tunneling.

Opis:
The evolution of spin system with the Fermi character of the relevant excitations under the strong magnetic field pulse is presented. The nonlinear dynamic equations describing interaction of the system and external magnetic field are found. It is shown that under certain conditions the initial state of the resonantly absorbing system does not change after passing of the field pulse (similar to optical self-induced transparency in two-level molecular gas).

The present study was undertaken to determine the influence of $B_2O_3$/$SiO_2$ ratio on devitrification behaviour, anorthite crystal size and transparency of glass-ceramic glazes. Measurement by X-ray diffraction combined with scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy microanalysis show that needle-like crystals of anorthite are formed. Sinterization and devitrification behaviour of system and viscosity change with temperature were analyzed by combining the datas that belong to differential thermal analysis and heating microscope analysis. Crystal size of anorthite was changed by modifying $B_2O_3$/$SiO_2$ ratio. It is confirmed that additional $B_2O_3$ prevents immediate phase separation during heat treatment in anorthite based glass-ceramic glazes.

Opis:
Experiments on hot rubidium vapor as an atomic medium with electromagnetically induced transparency for radiation of 795 nm wavelength (D1 absorption line of rubidium) are reported. Propagation of light pulses with velocity reduced to 11.5 km/s has been observed with a significant modification of the shape of square input pulses to adapt to the spectral window of induced transparency. So-called light storage, i.e. suspension of the propagation of light pulses in the medium by temporary turn-off of the electromagnetically induced transparency state was also demonstrated. "Storage" periods of several microseconds, limited by relatively fast relaxation of atomic spin polarization in the volume of interaction of atoms with radiation, were obtained.

The concept of parametric spectra in electromagnetically induced transparency is clarified. In this context, the possibility for a coupling laser to reach absorption levels below the one-photon absorption is experimentally shown. In this sense, the first results of electromagnetically induced transparency for a coupling laser in a coherent-population-trapping dominated system are presented.

We present a rate-equation theoretical model describing the optical pumping processes on the K $D_{1}$ line and we then discuss their influence on the electromagnetically induced transparency resonance parameters. We present also a comparison with the results of an experiment performed in cells containing pure alkali metal or added with a few torrs of buffer gas. The model shows that, in the last case, the complete Maxwellisation of the atomic population velocity distribution, along with the overlapping Doppler profiles of the transitions from the ground-states typical of K, leads to a partial compensation of optical pumping and a significant increase of the amplitude of the electromagnetically induced transparency resonances.
