Opis:
In this paper characterization of internal mechanical stress state in boiler steel plate by the Barkhausen effect based method was presented. The affecting of calibration functions shape by tensile and compressive residual stress was observed. Beside of the significant residual stress anisotropy in sub-surface layers, unfavorable location of main directions of stress was revealed on both sides of the plate. The new method of calibration function without heat treatment of calibration specimens was elaborated and presented also. The investigations of Barkhausen noise as function of applied stress for different intensity and frequency of magnetization current were performed. Based on this, optimal magnetization conditions of doing measurement were estimated. Own construction of measuring apparatus for experiments was used.

Opis:
We use 3D discrete dislocation dynamics technique to study a low-angle tilt boundary migration subjected to applied shear stress at high temperatures, where diffusion significantly contributes to the dislocation motion. The model considers Peach-Koehler forces due to interactions between individual straight dislocation segments. The model also addresses dislocation plasticity in a field of impenetrable incoherent spherical precipitates. Velocities of the individual dislocation segments are calculated in relation to the crystallography of the material. Several calculation series have been carried out for different velocity and driving force relations. The results show that there exists a critical applied shear stress, below which the low angle dislocation boundary cannot surpass the rigid precipitates and remains in an equilibrium configuration. This agrees with experimental results obtained in creep tests of dispersion strengthened alloys. The critical stresses have been calculated also for situations where the applied stress was decreased during the interaction between the low-angle tilt boundary and the precipitates.

Opis:
In this work, the vacuum carburizing and gas quenching has been done on gears box made of high strength alloy steel AMS 6308 in four different temperatures. The measurements of hardness was done to evaluate the effective case depth for each temperature. The analysis of retained austenite was presented as a factor which can affect values of residual stress. The residual stresses were measured in Protoi XDR portable diffractometer and the analysis was examined to find influence of temperature and carburizing time on the direction and values of residual stresses.

Opis:
The susceptibility of the NiTi shape memory alloy to relaxation after the hydrogen charging in an aqueous solution has been investigated with respect to ageing during one to six days in air at room temperature. The orthodontic wires have been prepared by immersing in a 0.9% NaCl solution for 3 h, under applied current density of 10 A/m^2 and then relaxed with an imposed deformation in a fully austenite state of structure and in a state with 1/3 and 2/3 of the martensite volume fraction. Through the stress relaxation, the hydrogen-charged specimen has shown a significant decrease of the stress, compared to the non-immersed alloy, when the imposed deformation was located in the plateau of the austenite-martensite transformation. It was also found that a longer ageing period is important and the properties of the wires with longer stress relaxation are similar to the those of non-charged wires. Nevertheless, no difference has been detected between the as-received and the as-charged specimens when the imposed deformation was located in the elastic deformation region of the fully austenitic structure. This behavior is attributed to the effect of the gradient of absorbed hydrogen, existing between the surface and the center axis of the studied wires, which facilitates the mobility of the martensite bands during the stress relaxation.

Opis:
The magnetic phase diagram of bulk Cr_{100-x}Al_{x} shows interesting behaviour close to the triple point concentration of x ≈2. Since the magnetic properties of Cr are influenced by dimensionality, stress and strain, this study focussed on the investigation of Cr₉₉Al₁ thin films prepared on fused silica substrates with thicknesses t varying from 29 to 452 nm using sputtering techniques. Resistance measurements covering the temperature range 2 to 400 K did not show any clear anomalies that could be indicative of changes in the magnetic ordering. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) studies indicate the films are polycrystalline textured and that the 80 nm sample has the smallest grain size. In-plane stresses in these thin films were studied using the specialised XRD ın²ψ-method. The results show that the stress varies with film thickness. The 29 nm sample has stress in the order of 833 MPa and with increasing film thickness the stress reaches 1471 MPa for the 80 nm layer, where after it systematically reduces for the thicker coatings to 925 MPa for the 452 nm film. The highest stress for the Cr₉₉Al₁ thickness sample series is seen in the film with the smallest grain size.

Opis:
Composite structures are made from two or more constituent materials with significantly different physical or chemical properties and they remain separate and distinct in a macroscopic level within the finished structure. This feature allows us for introducing an optical fiber sensors matrix into the composite material. These sensors can demonstrate stress distribution inside a tested material influenced by external tensions. Two types of the optical fiber sensors, placed into one fiber simultaneously, are used as s matrix structure. One of them is based on application of the Bragg grating structure written inside the core of the fiber. Longitudinal stress modifies changes parameters of the Bragg grating and in the same, spectral characteristics of the light transmitted through the fiber. The second one is based on application of highly birefringent fibers which under external stress introduce polarization changes in the output light. These sensors placed into one fiber give a possibility to the measure two external tensions separately.

Opis:
In the paper we present results of the research on polarization mode dispersion changes inside the polarimetric optical fiber sensors based on highly birefringent optical fibers embedded into composite materials with different angular orientations of the optical axes. Based on measurements made for different types of highly birefringent optical fiber sensors we have shown that strain sensitivities after lamination process are different in comparison to the data obtained before lamination. Our results indicate that polarization mode dispersion in side-hole highly birefringent fibers under axial stress strongly depends on fiber orientation in the composite material suggesting that orientation of the polarization axes of the highly birefringent fiber can be responsible for behavior of the fiber inside the composite material.

Opis:
The influence of mechanical stress on low frequency AC magnetic permeability was studied. The cold-drawn bars with C45 steel were subjected to investigation. The tensile stress (within elastic regime) was applied by means of material testing machine. Simple measuring system was assembled, which consisted of: function generator with magnetizing coil, detection coil and precise AC voltmeter. The registered changes of induced voltage were proportional to the change of magnetic permeability of the stretched rods. The obtained results were almost frequency-independent due to low frequency limit (250-500 Hz, weak eddy currents, no spin-origin energy dissipation). A significant magneto-mechanical hysteresis was observed slightly evolving from cycle to cycle with tendency of stabilization. The extension of basic Stoner-Wohlfarth model of magnetic permeability allowed to fit the data reproducing hysteretic behavior and considering the relaxation of the internal stress. The proposed, low-cost method is suitable in the industrial applications for stress control in large-sized steel elements.
