Opis:
In this paper, a method called "Boolean subtraction" which enables the subtraction of two minterms and of two functions of the disjunctive normal form respectively of two ternary-vectors and of two ternary-vector-lists is presented. The advantage of "Boolean subtraction" is that the calculated results are already presented in an orthogonal form, which has a significant advantage for further calculations. It replaces two procedures, once building the difference and then the subsequent orthogonalizing and has faster computing time in comparison. Furthermore, another equation is developed from the property of this new method providing orthogonal results in order to orthogonalize functions of the disjunctive normal form.

X-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements on the cobalt (iron) K edges and samarium L$\text{}_{2}$, L$\text{}_{3}$ edges of Sm$\text{}_{2}$Fe$\text{}_{17}$, Sm$\text{}_{2}$Co$\text{}_{17}$ and their interstitial hydrides and nitrides are reported. Normal absorption profiles show considerable changes upon nitriding for iron- and cobalt K edge and for samarium L$\text{}_{2}$, L$\text{}_{3}$ edges. Much weaker changes are observed upon hydriding. Similarly, significant differences of X-MCD spectra appear between the host Sm$\text{}_{2}$Fe$\text{}_{17}$ (Sm$\text{}_{2}$Co$\text{}_{17}$) and the nitrides, whereas X-MCD signals of the hydrides are similar to those of the hosts. The effects are analysed and discussed in terms of influence of interstitial atom neighbours on the Co(Fe) 4p and Sm 5d electronic bands.

Opis:
Bilayer sandwich structures were fabricated by the sequential thermal evaporation of gold, copper phthalocyanine (CuPc), C$\text{}_{60}$ and gold onto sapphire substrates. When the current-voltage characteristics of a freshly made device are measured in an atmosphere of argon, fairly strong rectification is observed. When the bilayer device is exposed to ammonia vapor, the rectification slowly decreases and almost disappears. If the device is then placed under vacuum and the ammonia removed, the initial conditions slowly return. We attribute the rectification to the formation of a p-n junction.

Oscillations of photoluminescence properties in external magnetic fields are investigated in CdTe modulation doped quantum wells. The oscillatory behaviour of the luminescence intensity, the line width and the g factor is due to many-body effects in the 2-dimensional electron gas. The oscillation of photoluminescence intensity can be easily used as optically detected Shubnikov de Haas effect to determine the electron concentration in quantum wells without contacts.

We investigated the n-type doping of the wide-gap II-VI semiconductor (CdMg)Te. The n-type doping of (CdMg)Te has previously been achieved in only a small range of magnesium concentration. By the use of zinc iodine as dopant source material, we obtained highly doped (CdMg)Te layers up to a magnesium concentration of 40%. The limiting factor for the free carrier concentration at room temperature is the occurrence of a deep level, which dominates the electrical properties at room temperature of layers with more than 30% magnesium. Compensating defects or defect complexes are considered, to explain the observed properties of the deep level, which do not seem to be characteristic of an isolated donor state.

Opis:
Since the mid 1990's, an increasing number of charged particle microbeams have been designed to deliver a preset number of ions to individual living cells with the micron resolution. These tools provide a powerful technique to investigate the cellular response to low doses of radiations. During the last years, the single ion hit facility in operation on the GSI microbeam since 1987 has been upgraded for the irradiation of individual living cells in vitro. This setup presents two main peculiarities compared to the microbeams used up to now for cell irradiation. First, the beam's micrometric size is obtained by magnetic focusing and not by a simple collimation. This allows obtaining a smaller beam spot, a better defined linear energy transfer, and a high irradiation throughput. Then, the GSI microbeam is able to focus ions from carbon to uranium with energies between 1.4 MeV/u to 11.4 MeV/u. The range of accessible linear energy transfer is thus considerably extended compared to light ions microbeam in operation today. The design of the GSI microbeam is described, including the beam control, the online cell localisation, the cell dish designed specifically for microbeam irradiation, and the cell irradiation procedures. Experimental tests performed to check the global aiming accuracy as well as the first cellular irradiations are presented.

We present an optical investigation of novel heterostructures based on beryllium chalcogenides with a type-I and type-II band alignment. In the type-II quantum well structures (ZnSe/BeTe) we observed a strong exciton transition involving an electron confined in the conduction band well and a hole localized in the valence band barrier (both in ZnSe layer). This transition is drastically broadened by the temperature increase due to enhanced exciton-acoustic phonon interaction.

Undoped and aluminum-doped ZnO thin films are prepared by the sol-gel process. Zinc acetate dihydrate, ethanol and monoethanolamine are used as precursor, solvent and stabilizer, respectively. In the case of Al-doped ZnO, aluminum nitrate nonahydrate is added to the precursor solution with an atomic percentage equal to 1 or 2 at.% Al. The multi thin layers are prepared by spin-coating onto glass substrates, and are transformed into ZnO upon annealing at 550°C. Films with preferential orientation along the c-axis are successfully obtained. The structural, morphological, and optical properties of the thin films as a function of aluminum content have been investigated for different elaboration parameters (e.g. layer number) using X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, scanning electronic microscopy. Waveguiding properties of the thin films have been also studied using m-lines spectroscopy. The results indicate that our films are monomodes at 632.8 nm with propagation optical loss estimated around 1.6 dB/cm.

It has been claimed by Patil et al., that Ce$\text{}_{3}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$Sb$\text{}_{4}$ is the first Ce-based semiconducting ferromagnet. In this paper it is shown, mainly with Hall effect and far infrared spectroscopy that no gap in the excitation spectrum exists, as well above as below the magnetic ordering temperature. A maximum in the resistivity near T$\text{}_{C}$ is due to trapped magnetic polarons. The resistivity is an effect of the mobility of the charge carriers. The structure of the magnetic unit cell has been determined with elastic neutron scattering.

Opis:
The effects of atomic hydrogen irradiation on the optical properties of (InGa)(AsN) single quantum wells investigated by means of photoluminescence spectroscopy. For increasing hydrogen dose, the photoluminescence band peak energy of each nitrogen-containing sample blue-shifts and for high hydrogen dose it reaches that of a corresponding nitrogen-free reference sample. This effect is accompanied by a broadening of the photoluminescence band line width and by a decrease in the photoluminescence efficiency. Thermal annealing at 550ºC fully restores the original band gap value and the photoluminescence line width of the sample before hydrogenation. An interpretation of these phenomena is proposed in terms of an H perturbation of the charge distribution around the strongly electronegative N atoms, leading most likely to the formation of H-N complexes, and to an ensuing electronic passivation of nitrogen.

Opis:
We have performed photoluminescence measurements in order to study the optical properties of hydrogenated GaAs$\text{}_{1-y}$N$\text{}_{y}$/GaAs heterostructures for y ranging from 0 to 0.03. Hydrogen irradiation leads to: (i) a progressive passivation of N-related recombination lines for low N content (y≈ 0.001); (ii) a sizable blue shift of the band gap in the "alloy" limit (y≈0.01). Thermal annealing restores the optical properties samples had before hydrogenation. These results can be accounted for by the formation of N$\text{}^{-}$ -H$\text{}^{+}$ complexes and demonstrate that hydrogen irradiation provides a powerful tool for the analysis of photoluminescence spectra of GaAs$\text{}_{1-y}$N$\text{}_{y}$.
