Opis:
Simple model of preliminary selection of possible reaction pathways for the reaction between multiatomic molecules is proposed. Most probable directions of the attack are estimated from plots of the total energy gradient as a function of mutual orientation of reacting molecules for large intermolecular distances. The method is verified for the oxidation reactions of ethylene and amidogen and also for amidogen interaction with NO. The possibility of the application of the proposed method to catalytic reactions is discussed.

In this paper we propose a mechanism of the phenomenon of ferroelectricity in the molecular crystal of thiourea $(SC(NH_2)_2)$. The mechanism is based on the model of interaction between two molecular electric dipoles. The dipoles are not idealized to points - they have a finite length. Besides, they can reorient mutually and the reorientation is determined by the crystal structure specified by the experimental structural research. On the basis of this theory, a formula for the potential energy of interaction of a pair of two nonpunctual dipoles as a function of the angle of reorientation is derived and discussed.

We investigate a frustrated Lieb-Mattis-like spin-1/2 model that is a reference model for the corresponding square-lattice Heisenberg model describing the unusual magnetic properties of Ba$\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$O$\text{}_{4}$Cl$\text{}_{2}$. Due to frustration we obtain a rich magnetic phase diagram. We find two critical temperatures in accordance with recent experiments on Ba$\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$O$\text{}_{4}$Cl$\text{}_{2}$.

The necessary actions connected with interpretations of examining of physical properties of sea bottom structure is developing of proper procedure of modeling of the layered structure. The implementation of the acoustic waves for the determination of seabed stratification requires a precise diagnosis of the topic from both the theoretical and practical side. Little differences between the parameters of sediments, as well as irregular distance between layers make the interpretation of the images of cross sections uneasy. The paper presents the model of stratified structure of seabed in the form of a liquid on which falls the perpendicular elastic wave. Since the description of the seabed is made on the basis of reflected impulse shape, which provides the information about the structure and material properties such as density and speed of wave propagation, the important role among other things has the spatial resolution, because the pulse length determines the possibility of distinguishing between the layers. These aspects require very careful analysis of the form of reflected signals.

Opis:
Dynamic calibration of the pressure transducers and accelerometers are carried out by applying dynamic mechanical inputs to them. Determination of those transducers' sensitivities, defined as the ratio of electrical output of the transducer to the mechanical input, is an important task for calibration laboratories. Data obtained during calibration are processed in order to have the peak values of the input and output signals which are sampled by data acquisition boards. Different approximations are made such as fitting the data in the range of 90% of the maximum value for parabola or half-sine waveform. It is clear that waveform model used and also the resolution and the sampling rate of the data acquisition boards have effects on the accuracy of the sensitivity of the transducer. For the investigation, the electrical output signal of the transducer corresponding to the mechanical input is recorded and simulated with different resolutions and sampling rates. Those data are processed for the waveforms of half-sine, parabola, Gaussian distribution. The effect of the waveform model of the input quantities on the dynamic sensitivity is discussed in this paper.

The phenomenon of epidemic spreading in a real social network is described and investigated numerically. On the basis of data concerning amount of time devoted daily to social interactions, the influence of human activity on spreading process is investigated in the frame of SIRS model. It was found that the activity of an individual is positively correlated with its connectivity and the relation has power law form. The influence of control measures on the spreading process is investigated as a function of initial conditions. The cost-effectiveness of mass immunizations campaigns and target vaccinations is compared. It was found that the form of activity distribution has significant influence on the spreading phenomena in the network.

Opis:
The primarily goal of this study is to reveal a scaled soil-structure interaction model for small capacity shaking table testing instead of the full-scale field experiments. The prototype of soil-structure interaction system with frame-type building, resting on a sandy soil with shear wave velocity of 536 m/s and unit weight of 12.9 kN/m³ has been selected. For experimental investigations, the realistic site and building structures are scaled with a geometric scaling factor of 1:45. The test model, consisting of six-story steel frame-type building, natural soil and laminar soil container, is designed and constructed to realistically simulate the seismic soil-structure interaction effects of building structures in shaking table tests. In order to verify the geometric scaling factor, the dynamic properties of the fixed-base system for both prototype and scaled model are determined by using finite element analysis. Furthermore, the dynamic parameters for scaled model of a single layer soil, restricted with base-rock, have been compared numerically with the proposed laminar soil container, to provide a good agreement.

Opis:
In this paper we present a model of spontaneous polarization appearing in the crystal of thiourea in phase I, constructed on the basis of the molecular field theory, with the use of the Boltzmann statistics. The model employs the potential energy of interaction between two nonpunctual molecular electric dipoles performing reorientations within the constraints specified by the experimentally determined structural data. The temperature dependences of the spontaneous polarization for different values of the hydrostatic pressure and for different γ-ray doses were obtained. A comparison between theoretical and experimental results permitted calculation of the parameters of the theory presented.

The commensurate p/q-filled n-component Hubbard chain was investigated by bosonization and high-precision density-matrix renormalization-group analysis. It was found that depending on the relation between the number of components n, and the filling parameter q, the system shows metallic or insulating behavior, and for special fillings bond-ordered (dimerized, trimerized, tetramerized etc.) ground state develops in the insulating phase. A mean-field analysis shows that this bond ordering is a direct consequence of the spin-exchange interaction, which plays a crucial role in the one-parameter Hubbard model - not only for infinite Coulomb repulsion, but for intermediate values as well.

The effects of random transverse crystal field are investigated in the mean-field approximation on the spin-1 model. The transverse crystal field is applied on a lattice in a bimodal random distribution with a tunable parameter adjusting the strength of one mode with respect to the other one. Then, the phase diagrams are calculated on the reduced temperature-transverse crystal field planes for given values of probability p and coordination number q at zero external magnetic field h. It was found that the model gives both second- and first-order phase transitions and tricritical points which is a well-known behavior of the spin-1 model. In addition, the model also yields critical end points and end points for the first-order phase transition lines for appropriate p values.

Jellium metal surface properties such as the surface dipole barrier and work function are obtained in the linear potential approximation to the effective potential at the surface. The metal surface position and field strength are determined respectively by the requirement of overall charge neutrality and the constraint set on the electrostatic potential by the Budd-Vannimenus theorem. The calculations are primarily analytic and these properties are given in terms of universal functions of the field strength. The results obtained employing the Ceperly-Alder expression for the correlation energy closely approximate those of Lang and Kohn.

Stimulated by the two-dimensional frustrated Heisenberg antiferromagnet with first-, second-, and third-neighbor couplings (J$\text{}_{1}$-J$\text{}_{2}$-J$\text{}_{3}$ model) we consider a corresponding three-parameter model with a long-range antiferromagnetic Lieb-Mattis interaction. This model can be solved exactly and leads to a better understanding of the role of frustration in the J$\text{}_{1}$-J$\text{}_{2}$-J$\text{}_{3}$ model. We calculate the correlations in the groundstate and consider their finite size behavior. Furthermore we present the full thermodynamic phase diagram. We find the possibility of a disordered phase at T=0.

We apply perturbation theory and cyclic spin permutation formalism to study the lowest energy states of the infinite-repulsion Hubbard model on n-leg ladders with alternating values of one-site energies α_{i} for neighboring rungs. We establish the "ferromagnetic" character of ladder ground-state at electron densities in the interval 1 - (2n)¯¹ ≤ ρ ≤ 1 and sufficiently large alternation of one-site energies of neighbor rungs of the ladder. We also show the stability of this state against the small deviations of the values of α_{i} in contrast to the case of two-leg ladder formed by weakly interacting neighbor rungs with equal one-site energies.

In this paper the magnetic behavior of triple layer thin film was investigated by Monte Carlo simulations. We fixed an antiferromagnetic arrangement of the lattice spins for the basal layer of the film and we studied the basal layer magnetic ordering influence on the two other layers, by calculating the out-of-plane and the in-plane magnetization, the out-of-plane and the in-plane magnetic susceptibility and the specific heat. We found out five magnetic ordering phases of the sample: ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic, mixed phase ordering, paramagnetic and XY-like magnetic ordering of the spins, respectively.

The paper presents the research on waveguide sensors based on multimode interference structures. In the modeled systems, the applied sensor layer was used as the cover of the multimode section. The cover of the multimode section can be made of material sensitive to the changes of definite external conditions, and through a proper selection of this material the sensor can be adapted to the detection of various physicochemical quantities. In effect of the changes of optical parameters of the sensor layer, the propagation conditions change, which can be easily observed in the location changes of N-fold images of the input field. In the paper we have investigated and compared the systems based on waveguides having step index profile and gradient distribution of refractive index. We have demonstrated that the sensitivity of such systems can be adjusted through a proper selection of the dimensions of the multimode section.
