Opis:
The magnetic field dependence of the drag current induced by beams of acoustic phonons is studied in a 2D gas of carriers, formed in a heterostructure. This drag current is related to the velocity of the center of mass of the gas. The elimination of the degrees of freedom related to the relative motion of the carriers leads to a Langevin equation for the center-of-mass position vector. From this equation one can obtain an expression for the induced current density which depends on carrier density-density correlation functions. An explicit formula for the time-integrated current density is derived taking into account all intra and inter Landau level transitions. Corresponding numerical results are in good agreement with the experimental patterns.

Opis:
The response of a 2D gas of charge carriers of mobility μ in magnetic field B to pulsed phonon beams is considered. Previously we derived a quantum Langevin equation for the centre-of-mass of the carrier gas, which allows us to calculate the time integrated drag current. This formula is studied in the weak magnetic field limit. When the ratio of the cyclotron frequency ω$\text{}_{c}$ to the frequency ω of phonons is small and μB ≪ 1, the general formula coincides with the corresponding expression obtained in the frame of the Boltzmann equation with the collision integral independent of B.

Resistivity ρ(T) and absolute thermoelectric power S(Τ) have been measured for USb single crystals characterized by different residual resistivity ratios, RRR = ρ(300 K)/ρ(4.2 K). A 50 μV/K peak of S(Τ) observed at 40 K for high RRR crystal vanishes for low RRR one. The ρ ∝ Τ$\text{}^{4}$ dependence observed below 40 K changes to the ρ ∝ Τ $\text{}^{5}\text{}^{/}\text{}^{2}$ one. These variations are ascribed to reduction of the magnon drag effect by an increased incoherent magnetic scattering of carriers, possibly induced by a small change of composition. Resistivity anomaly is analysed above the antiferromagnetic transition temperature T$\text{}_{N}$. We have found that resistivity decreases as tlnt in the range 0.02 ≤ t ≤ 0.35, where t = (Τ - T$\text{}_{N}$)/T$\text{}_{N}$. It is ascribed to a semimetallic character of this compound.

Opis:
The thermoelectric power (S) of $M_3C_{60}$ (M = K, Rb) alkali intercalated fullerides is theoretically investigated by considering the Mott expression within parabolic band approximation to reveal the electron diffusive thermoelectric power $(S_{c}^{diff})$. We follow the Fermi energy as electron parameter and $S_{c}^{diff}$ discerned linear temperature dependence. S infers a change in slope above transition temperature and becomes almost linear above 70 K for $M_3C_{60}$ alkali intercalated fullerides. As a next step, the phonon drag thermoelectric power $(S_{ph}^\text{drag})$ is computed within relaxation time approximation when thermoelectric power is limited by scattering of phonons from defects, grain boundaries, phonons and electrons as carriers. It is noticed that the $S_{ph}^\text{drag}$ of $K_3C_{60}$ is anomalous and it is an artifact of strong phonon-electron and -phonon scattering mechanism. The thermoelectric power within relaxation time approximation has been taken into account ignoring a possible energy dependence of the scattering rates. Behaviour of S(T) is determined by competition among the several operating scattering mechanisms for the heat carriers and a balance between carrier diffusion and phonon drag contributions in $M_3C_{60}$ (M = K, Rb) alkali intercalated fullerides.

Opis:
High precision measurements of the Seebeck coefficient S(T) were carried out on the single crystals of $RB_{12}$ (R = Ho, Er, Tm, Lu) at temperatures 2-300 K. It was shown that the effects of phonon drag result from vibrations of rare earth ions ($ħω_E$≈10-33 meV) in the rigid framework structure of the $B_{12}$ clusters and determine the main contribution to thermopower at intermediate temperatures (30-300 K). The correlated behavior of transport parameters favors the appreciable enhancement of spin fluctuations in the sequence of magnetic compounds $(HoB_{12}-TmB_{12})$ when approaching to the valence instability state in $YbB_{12}$. The giant increase in S(T) detected in the vicinity of the Néel temperature $T_N$ for $HoB_{12},$ $ErB_{12},$ and $TmB_{12}$ seems to result from the density of states renormalization caused by antiferromagnetic ordering.
