Opis:
The existence of a minimum lying by 0.2 eV above the Fermi level, in the band structure of the ⟨001⟩ direction of tungsten, has been confirmed at temperatures of 600÷800 K of the emitter. With increasing temperature a slight rise of the Fermi level in relation to the band structure has been observed.

It is shown that in field annealed amorphous ribbons (with oblique intrinsic anisotropy), the magnetostatic energy associated with spatial fluctuations of the local magnetization depends on the magnetization state. The corresponding magnetostatic interactions can play an important part in the magnetic behaviour of the amorphous ribbons with small macroscopic anisotropy.

Opis:
Being a light metallic engineering material with low density, high specific stiffness and strength, aluminium alloys are promising materials in the fields of aerospace, military and automotive industries. Consumption of aluminium alloys in the forms of sheets and plates has generally increased in global markets over the past 45 years. Rolling directions affect the anisotropy and mechanical properties of the aluminium alloys. In this work, the plane strain fracture toughness KIC values of 7075 aluminium alloy were measured in plates of three directions and six orientations (L-T, T-L, T-S, S-T, L-S, S-L), using the standard (ASTM E399) compact tension specimens. The results indicate that dependence of fracture toughness of 7075-T651 aluminium alloy on rolling direction is obvious and that KIC values of T-S and L-T orientations are the highest.

Opis:
The valence band structure E(k) for CdTe (111) Cd side surface 2 x 2 reconstructed was investigated along the Γ-L direction of the bulk Brillouin zone by high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy method in the energy range between 9.5 eV and 30.0 eV. The E(k) dependence was determined as well for bulk as for some of the surface states in the whole width of the valence band. Obtained results are compared with available calculated bulk band structure along Γ-L direction.

Opis:
The twinning activity in random textured cast magnesium during monotonic, room temperature tension and compression tests was monitored by neutron diffraction. Decrease of integrated intensity which characterizes the twinned volume fraction of selected reflections was compared to its Schmid factor. The comparison shows that twinned fraction correlates with the maximum value of the Schmid factor with high precision during tensile test and with the average value of the Schmid factor during compression test.

Opis:
A method of calculating the Landau levels in crystals having the ellipsoidal Fermi surfaces has been presented with an accent put on the directional dependence of the energy quanta defined by the levels. Physically the problem concerns mainly semiconductors examined in a nearly-free electron approximation. In this case the shape of the Fermi surface is defined by three different effective masses entering the electron Hamiltonian. Beyond of the masses the method, which can be applied for an arbitrary direction of the magnetic field, does contain no empirical parameters in its framework.

Opis:
The continued growth of storage capacity requires new innovations in recording media and in particular, in magnetic nanostructures. FePt thin films in the $L1_0$-phase are interesting candidates for high-density magnetic recording media due to their large magnetocrystalline anisotropy. In the present work, we investigated the magnetic and structural properties of FePt thin films directly grown on MgO(110) with molecular beam epitaxy. The purpose was to gain insight in the correlation between the magnetization process and the morphology of the FePt thin films. We introduce conversion electron MÖssbauer spectroscopy to derive the direction of the easy magnetization axis with respect to the substrate. The results are compared to the characterization performed with high angle X-ray diffraction.

Opis:
The intention of this work is to discuss and report on our research on nonpolar laser structures grown on bulk GaN crystal substrates along the (11¯20) nonpolar direction. The main advantages of such nonpolar structures are related to the elimination of the built-in electric fields present in commonly used systems grown along the polar (0001) axis of nitride crystals. We demonstrated the optically pumped laser action on separate confinement heterostructures. Laser action is clearly shown by spontaneous emission saturation, abrupt line narrowing, and strong transversal electric polarization of output light. The lasing threshold was reached at an excitation power density of 260 kW/cm$\text{}^{2}$ for a 700μm long cavity (at room temperature).
