Opis:
It is shown that the Co sublayers grow in the soft magnetic nanocrystalline phase up to a critical thickness d≈3 and 2.8 nm for Co/Ti and Co/Zr MLs, respectively. The rapid decrease in the interlayer exchange coupling could be explained by its strong damping due to formation of a non-magnetic quasi-amorphous Co-Ti and Co-Zr alloy layer at the interfaces. The nanocrystalline 2.2 nm-Co/2 nm-Ti ML shows a weak 90° coupling near the transition zone from ferromagnetic to zero coupling.

The structural and magnetic properties of three magnetron sputtered multilayers at the 2nd maximum of antiferromagnetic coupling were studied using $\text{}^{59}$Co NMR spectroscopy: [Co(20 Å)/Cu(20 Å)]$\text{}_{20}$, [Co(20 Å )/ Ru(18 Å)]$\text{}_{20}$ and a heterostructure, in which non-magnetic spacers alternated between Cu and Ru. Co/Cu interfaces were found to be relatively sharp, extended over 3 monolayers, while the Co/Ru interfaces extend over 6 monolayers due to the good miscibility of Co and Ru. The NMR restoring field in the heterostructure is found to be the average of the restoring fields in both reference samples.

Opis:
Ceria doped with aliovalent cations, such as rare earth oxides, has been considered as one of the most promising candidate electrolyte materials for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells. In this study, high purity cerium nitrate, samarium nitrate and erbium nitrate salts were used to obtain ceria-based solid solutions Ce_{0.80}Sm_{0.20}O_{1.90} (SDC), Ce_{0.80}Sm_{0.15}Er_{0.05}O_{1.90} (ESDC5), Ce_{0.80}Sm_{0.10}Er_{0.10}O_{1.90} (ESDC10) through the cellulose templating method. Crystal structure and microstructure were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. X-ray diffraction results indicate that a single-phase fluorite structure formed at a relatively low calcination temperature, 500°C. The relative densities of the sintered pellets were higher than 93%. The electrical properties of doped and co-doped ceria electrolytes in the temperature range 300-750°C were analyzed by using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The singly doped ceria at 750°C showed the highest ionic conductivity with less activation energy.

Amorphous rapidly quenched ribbons of $(Fe-Co)_{76}Mo_8Cu_1B_{15}$ with the ratio Co/Fe = 0, 1/9, 1/6, 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 1/1 and 2/1 were prepared by planar flow casting. The dependence of the Curie temperature $T_C$ on Co/Fe ratio was determined. Due to the presence of the invar effect it was possible to measure the spontaneous volume magnetostriction in the temperature interval between 300 K and $T_C$. Field dependences of magnetostriction in parallel and perpendicular directions of applied magnetic field were obtained by direct measurement method. Subsequently, saturation magnetostriction and volume magnetostriction as well as forced magnetostriction were computed. Saturation magnetostriction increases with increasing Co/Fe ratio from 0 up to 17 ppm, depending both on the Co/Fe ratio and on the shift of $T_C$ with composition. The alloy with ratio Co/Fe = 0 exhibits $T_C$ near room temperature, thus field dependences of magnetostriction, corresponding to the dependences of a paramagnetic system are practically linear functions of applied field, corresponding to paramagnetic state.

The CO/Pt/Ru(0001) interface has been re-examined, in great detail, by photoelectron spectroscopy of high resolution under UHV conditions. The Ru(0001) substrate has been modified by platinum at coverages less than corresponding to the one, saturated, Pt overlayer, with no Pt/Ru intermixing. The analysis of the extent to which different regions of the photoelectron spectrum allow a detailed characterization of the interface is presented. The CO adsorption displays interaction with two separate phases: the Pt(111) face and the Ru(0001) surface.

Opis:
In our study, microparticles SiC powder was investigated as a catalyst for CO₂ photoreduction into methanol under UV light. The photochemical conversion of methanol was studied as function of time of exposition, the concentration and the grain size of the catalyst. The selectivity of the used catalyst to promote methanol formation was noticed. It was noticed also that the grain size and concentration have a great impact on the photochemical conversion of CO₂ to methanol. The best yield of methanol was achieved when a concentration of 0.75 M of SiC powder of 17 μm grain size and an exposure time to UV light of 2 h where assured. Maximum molar concentration of methanol achieved was under UV irradiation of 365 nm. Therefore, the catalytic property of silicon carbide has proved its efficiency in the photochemical conversion of CO₂ into alcohol thus far under UV light.

We report on ZnO films doped with different Co concentrations (0, 0.5, and 1 wt%) prepared by sol-gel technique in association with dip-coating onto glass substrates. Zinc acetate dehydrate, cobalt acetate, mono ethanolamine were used as starting materials, as well as solvent and stabilizer, respectively. Nanostructured polycrystalline ZnO thin films with different concentrations of Co doping (0, 0.5, and 1 wt%) are prepared for the first time by the sol-gel method and annealed at 500°C for 1 h. The surface morphologies of the ZnO thin films deposited on glass substrate with different concentrations were evaluated by atomic force microscopy. The optical absorption of the films showed a blue shift of the band gap. The photoluminescence signal of the thin films of undoped and Co-doped ZnO presents different bands in the visible region. The electrical conductivity of the sample with 0.5%Co was found to be 4.62 (ΩCm)¯¹.

Opis:
$Zn_{0.95}Co_{0.05}O$ and $Zn_{0.97}Ni_{0.03}O$ nanorods, prepared by a solvothermal method, show intriguing morphology and magnetic properties when co-doped with Li. At low and moderate Li incorporation (below 10 and 3 at.% Li in the Co- and Ni-doped samples, respectively) the rod aspect ratio is increased and room temperature ferromagnetic properties are enhanced, whereas the ferromagnetic coupling in $Zn_{0.97}Ni_{0.03}O$ is decreased for Li concentrations < 3 at.%. First-principles theoretical analyses demonstrate that Li co-doping has primarily two effects in bulk $Zn_{1- x}M_{x}O$ (with M = Co or Ni). First, the Li-on-Zn acceptors increase the local magnetic moment by depopulating the M 3d minority spin-states. The magnetic coupling is Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida-like both without and with Li co-doping. Second, Li-on-Zn prefer to be close to the M atoms to compensate the M-O bonds and to locally depopulate the 3d states, and this will help forming high aspect nanostructures. The observed room temperature ferromagnetism in Li co-doped $Zn_{1- x}M_{x}O$ nanorods can therefore be explained by the better rod morphology in combination with ionizing the magnetic M atoms.

The properties of Fe-Co catalysts in the reaction of CO₂ hydrogenation were investigated. Samples with high cobalt concentrations have shown higher activity. Morphology of the obtained catalysts was observed by using scanning electron microscopy and the elemental composition of surface of the catalysts was determined by scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray method. Energy dispersive X-ray analysis showed that metal distribution is not homogeneous with various metal ratio in selected points of the surface for the Fe-rich less active samples, whereas for the Co-rich samples with higher activity metals are homogeneously distributed, which is possibly connected to the formation of single phase.

40 nm-NiO/d$\text{}_{Co}$-Co bilayers (0< d$\text{}_{Co}$ <40nm) were prepared onto SiO$\text{}_{2}$(101)/Si(100) and glass substrates using UHV RF/DC magnetron sputtering. Results showed that the exchange coupling effects, i.e. unidirectional anisotropy field, H$\text{}_{s}$ (shift of the hysteresis loop), and broadening of the hysteresis loop, ΔH$\text{}_{c}$, are inversely proportional to the Co thickness down to 2nm. Furthermore, no significant difference in H$\text{}_{s}$ and ΔH$\text{}_{c}$ was observed between as deposited and field cooled bilayers. Practically no contraction of the successive hysteresis loops (training effects) was also observed at room temperature. On the other hand, the interface exchange coupling effects strongly depend on the preparation conditions. A maximal coupling energy for the NiO-Co interface was estimated as 0.04mJ/m$\text{}^{2}$ at room temperature for the samples prepared onto SiO$\text{}_{2}$(101)/Si(100) substrates.

We show that in a $[Co_1//Au//Co_2//Au]_4$ multilayer, where $Co_{1(2)}$ denote Co layers of different thicknesses, a 10 keV He-ion bombardment with a 6×$10^{14}$ ions $cm^{-2}$ dose leads to changes of the easy direction from out-of-plane to in-plane in the thicker Co layers ($t_{Co2}$ = 1 nm) while the perpendicular anisotropy of the thinner Co layers ($t_{Co1}$ = 0.6 nm) is preserved. The investigated multilayers were obtained by sputtering and the thickness of the Au layers ($t_{Au}$ = 4 nm) ensured that a direct coupling between the Co layers (through pinholes) and Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida-like interactions were negligible.
