Opis:
In the article effect of temperature on the cooperative energy transfer in germanate glass co-doped with $Yb^{3+}//Tb^{3+}$ under 976 nm laser diode pumping was investigated. The optimization of $Tb^{3+}$ concentration on the upconversion luminescence was determined. Strong luminescence at 489, 543, 586, 621 nm corresponding to $\text{}^{5}D_{4} \rightarrow \text{}^{7}F_{J}$ (J = 6,4,3) transitions and luminescence at 381, 415, 435 nm resulting from $\text{}^{5}D_{3}, \text{}^{5}G_6 \rightarrow \text{}^{7}F_{J}$ (J=6,5,4) transitions were presented. The highest upconversion emission intensity was obtained in glass co-doped with $0.7Yb_{2}O_{3}//0.7Tb_{2}O_{3}$ (mol%). The effect of temperature on the luminescent properties of germanate glass in the range of 5-250°C indicates the presence of competing phenomena: an increase in the effective absorption cross-section of $Yb^{3+}$ ions donor as a function of temperature and migration of energy between pairs of ions $Yb^{3+}-Yb^{3+}$ and of multiphonon excitation levels $\text{}^{7}F_{J}$.

Piezoelectric ceramics $(Na_{0.5}Bi_{0.5})TiO_3$ + 0.5 mol.% Mn (Mn-NBT) have been synthesized by mechanical activation of mixed oxides BiO₂, Na₂CO₃, TiO₂ and MnO for 1 h at room temperature. Non-activated and activated Mn-NBT powders were characterized by using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Also, the mechanical activation-derived Mn-NBT powders were uniaxially pressed and all pellets were sintered at 1000°C and 1200°C for 2 h in air atmosphere. The microstructure and phase analysis of sintered pellets was investigated by using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction.

Applications of the Mössbauer effect at the $\text{}^{161}$Dy and $\text{}^{57}$Fe nuclei to study heavy rare earth - transition metal compounds are presented. Magnetic hyperfine fields at dysprosium and iron nuclei observed in the Dy$\text{}_{u}$(M-M)$\text{}_{v}$ intermetallics (u/v=2/17, 6/23, 1/3, and 1/2; M-M = Mn-Fe, Fe-Co, and Co-Ni), magnetic moments and magnetic ordering temperatures are discussed. The magnetic hyperfine field at iron nuclei and the field at dysprosium nuclei treated as functions of a number of 3d electrons form two different systems of the Slater-Pauling curves. The magnetic ordering temperatures treated as functions of the number of 3d electrons also form the u/v system of curves. Considering the magnetic data and the magnetic hyperfine fields it can be concluded that intermetallics can be treated as three-subsystem ferrimagnets. Consequently, a coexistence between the 4f, 5d, and 3d magnetism in the rare earth - transition metal compounds can be qualitatively explained.

Opis:
The compounds $Tb_{x}Gd_{1-x}Ni_3$ with a $PuNi_3$-type structure have been obtained. The magnetic properties have been investigated by using SQUID magnetometer (Quantum Design MPMS, temperature from 1.9 K to 300 K and magnetic field up to 7 T). The partial replacement of Gd by Tb atoms is reflected in a decrease of the ordering temperature from 115 K (x = 0.0) to 81 K (x=1.0) as well as the increase of the saturation magnetic moment $M_{S}$ from 6.93 $μ_{B}$/f.u. (x=0.0) to 7.14 $μ_{B}$/f.u. (x=1.0). A large difference of M(T) curves has been noticed between the so-called field cooling-zero field cooling magnetization. The thermomagnetic curves are sensitive to the applied magnetic field and their origin can be understood as the domain-wall pinning effect and as the temperature dependence of coercivity.

The magnetic susceptibility, χ, of the itinerant antiferromagnetic compound UGa$\text{}_{3}$ was studied under pressure up to 2 kbar in the temperature range 64-300 K. The measured pressure derivative of the Néel temperature is found to be dT$\text{}_{N}$/dP=-1.1 K/kbar. In order to analyze the experimental magnetovolume effect values, d lnχ/d lnV, the volume dependent electronic structure of UGa$\text{}_{3}$ has been calculated ab initio in a paramagnetic phase by employing a relativistic full-potential linear muffin tin orbital method and including an external magnetic field self-consistently. The calculations revealed a predominance of itinerant uranium f-states at the Fermi energy, as well as a large orbital contribution to χ.

In the paper technological conditions were looked for to obtain the $Pb(Fe_{1//2}Nb_{1//2})O_{3} (PFN) ceramics and the PFN ceramics with the lithium admixture with the highest electric conduction and conditions appropriate for the PTC-R effect formation. Measurements of dc electrical resistivity, dielectric permittivity and dielectric loss were made as functions of temperature from room temperature to 190°C, at 1 kHz. The best set of values of dielectric loss and dielectric constant, from the ferroelectricity point of view, were obtained when the precursor with orthorhombic structure was employed. By creating appropriate technological conditions in the PFN ceramics the PTC-R effect can occur above the Curie temperature. Their electric properties are determined by presence of a basic phase of the potential barrier on the grain boundaries.

$0.5Bi_{0.95}Dy_{0.05}FeO_3-0.5Pb(Fe_{0.5}Nb_{0.5})O_3$ is a multiferroic material which exhibits ferroelectric and antiferromagnetic ordering. (The synthesis of such compounds is rather difficult.) In this paper the way of the synthesis of $0.5Bi_{0.95}Dy_{0.05}FeO_3-0.5Pb(Fe_{0.5}Nb_{0.5})O_3$ is presented. The detailed X-ray and Mössbauer effect studies were done and crystal and hyperfine interaction parameters were obtained. To measure electrical properties of the compound the impedance spectroscopy measurements were performed. The obtained impedance spectra were fitted using a proposed equivalent electrical circuit and the results were discussed in the scope of the brick layer model without easy paths.

Opis:
The Mössbauer effect and ab initio investigations of an electric field gradient at $\text{}^{57}Fe$ nuclei in $Pt_3Fe$ compound are presented. It is shown that nonzero $\text{}^{57}Fe$ electric field gradient exists in the cubic $Pt_3Fe$. Ab initio study of $Pt_3Fe$ in antiferromagnetic state confirms the presence of electric field gradient at $\text{}^{57}Fe$ nuclei. Lattice, local valence electron (3d, 4p) and weakly bound 3p core electron contributions to electric field gradient are separated out and discussed in the context of the electronic structure changes upon the antiferromagnetic phase transition.

Optical features (absorption and luminescence spectra) for Er$\text{}^{3+}$ doped yttrium-aluminium garnet (YAG), yttrium orthoaluminate (YAP) and LiNbO3 crystals as well as their changes after UV and gamma irradiations are presented. Possibility of gamma-induced sensibilization process in Er$\text{}^{3+}$ doped crystals is discussed. Positive result for non-pre-annealed gamma-irradiated rods of Er$\text{}^{3+}$:YAG crystal was stated.
