Opis:: Medicine and its secrets have always enthralled human beings, especially when the focus point is on illnesses and possible treatment. The pandemic of Sars-Cov-2 determined our lives. The amount of news associated with the epidemiological crisis substantiates the statement that there is still much that is unknown in this matter. Assuming that the unknownshould be explained via something familiar, I consider the application of the conceptual metaphor. The aim is to investigate its presence and usefulness in the description and understanding of abstract conceptual domains such as illness and its course, therapy and treatment, as well as coronavirus and its form.

Opis:: This article describes the usage and occurrence of metaphorical phraseologisms and their functions in non-scientific medical articles. According to Harald Weinrich’s theory [1976] and cognitive theory of metaphors by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson [1980], metaphorical phraseologisms, as well as single metaphors can be associated with subordinate concepts. Due to high complicity of metaphors described in this article they appear in the form of constellations and have been arranged according to such concepts as: MEDICINE IS A GAME, ILLNESS IS AN ENEMY AND THERAPY IS A STRUGGLE and also SICKNESS AND LEADING TO SICKNESS IS A CRIME.

Opis:: The aim of this paper is to map cognitive dynamics of meaning construction in Spanish language as articulated in Ortega y Gasset’s philosophical essay La deshumanización del arte / The Dehumanization of Art [1925]. We will focus on how the human element is conceptualized, i.e., created and understood by the author. Our method is based on the application of cognitive models of conceptual analysis found in Cognitive Linguistics known as Idealized Cognitive Models – ICMs [Lakoff & Johnson 1980] like Image Schema, Metaphor, Metonymy, and their developments as conceptual blends in Conceptual Integration Theory – CIT [Fauconnier & Turner 2002]. The high philosophical complexity of this text’s nuclear conceptual structure HUMAN and DEHUMANIZATION makes it necessary to initially map them from theoretically established cognitive approaches to language organization. In this paper we develop such analysis as groundwork for a subsequent study involving a more dynamicist view of their emergent meanings in the framework of Biopoetics [Guerra 2013, 2016].

Opis:: The purpose of the present paper is to show how conceptual metaphor theory and blending theory or conceptual integration model can be complementary in analysis of language. We are going to discuss the language of the medical television series House M.D. (seasons 1-5) with the aim to demonstrate how the use of conceptual metaphors and blends reveals the mysterious workings of the human body, disease, diagnosis and treatment to laymen - the viewers. The article discusses six examples of blending paying special attention to the following features of blending operations: achieving goals of blending, namely providing human scale, global insight and coming up with a story, and inputs clashing.

Opis:: Inna Lisnyanskaya is one of the most popular contemporary Russian poetesses. She was born in Baku in 1928. In 1960 she moved to Russia and got married to a translator and poet Siemion Lipkin. Her works tough upon many problems such as: abandonment, loneliness, longing for her homeland, unfulfilled love. The main objective of the article is to explore ontological, cognitive and structural metaphors and symbols connected with the image of shadow.
