Opis:
The article presents the methodology for light two-wheeled electric vehicle energy balance investigation using MAHA LPS 3000 chassis dynamometer. For this purpose, the laboratory tests, as well as the road tests, have been performed on the self-constructed light two-wheeled electric vehicle equipped with the 3 kW BLDC motor and the 100.8 V battery pack. The road test data have been used to set up the dynamometer parameters in order to simulate the real road drive taking into account, among others, the rolling resistances and the air drag coefficient. The overall energy consumption for the laboratory tests and the road conditions’ tests have been then compared for different vehicle speeds. In addition, based on the power and the torque characteristics measured on the MAHA chassis dynamometer, the efficiency of the vehicle electric drive system and the efficiency of the battery charging process have been calculated.

Opis:
Disc brakes in passenger cars are extremely important due to safety concerns. Their operational quality largely rests on the conditions of contact between the working elements, which mainly consists offlat and dry sliding. The tribological phenomena thatoccur during braking are, unfortunately, extremely complex and difficult to recreate in laboratory settings. Many scientific institutes conduct research to improve our understanding of these phenomena. The results they present make it possible to continuously simplify the procedures for selecting friction materials and reducing the costs of identifying the properties of new products. This article analyses the methods commonly used by researchers. It also presents different set-ups of research stations, as well as the advantages and drawbacks of each method.

Opis:
When designing or developing friction materials, it is crucial to predict how the modification of the formulation will affect their properties. Fibres are introduced in the composition of the phenolic-based brake friction materials to improve their mechanical strength. Apart from reinforcing the composite, fibres can also affect its tribological and thermophysical properties. In this study two composite friction materials are compared. The difference between the materials was the type of reinforcing fibre used in the formulation – in one case it was glass fibre, in the other steel fibre. Thermal diffusivity of both materials was measured and thermal conductivity was calculated. Frictional characteristics determined by means of full-scale dynamometer tests are analysed and discussed. Substitution of glass fibre with steel fibre led to increase in the friction coefficient. Maximum average temperature below wheel surface, observed during the test of the material containing steel fibre, was lower as compared to the test results of the material with glass fibre in its formulation, despite higher heat flux in the course of brake applications. Thermal conductivity of the friction material was enhanced by including steel fibre in the formulation.
