The present state and tendencies of the natural gas market and gas storage in Europe areaddressed in this paper and compared to the situation in Poland. The European countries are presented in view of their natural gas production, import and export vs. consumption (total and per capita) and the consumer structure. The changing consumption level is assessed as a function of the consumer's structure and quantity of consumption. This has a direct influence on the demand for natural gas storage. The author also characterizes the gas storage market in Europe, accounting for the existing and planned investments, with special emphasis on storage capacity, injection and withdrawal capacity, and also types of storages. The characteristic was based on, among others, the consumption level, home production and import in particular countries.

Opis:
Natural gas is a very important and strategic resource. In the structure of the world’s primary energy, its share is currently approx. 25 and according to the forecasts it will continue to grow. In addition, the transition the large cities to gas as the main energy resource is an effective solution for reducing harmful emissions and improving air quality. The trend of increasing consumption of natural gas causes the complex technical issues, especially the need of accurate forecasting the gas demand, design the new distribution networks and modernization of the existing systems of gas supply. This article presents a review of existing methods for gas demand forecasting based on the gas engineering literature analysis and the approach for the forecasting of gas consumption based on the analysis of the gas consumption diagrams of gas station.

Based on the data collected over a two year time period, which included temperature, wind speed and gas consumption during the day, the effects of weather factors on gas consumption in the city have been established with the use of multiple regression. The impact of a particular month, day (dummy variable) or holiday of a year on the gas consumption has also been determined. The models of linear regression and artificial neural networks have been constructed for determining the gas consumption. An attempt has been made to find the best regression models and compare them to the neural network models with the use of mean absolute percentage error (MAPE).

There is a several year experience concerning exploration and production of shale resources in the USA. First production wells started in 1996 (the history of hydraulic fracturing is even 40-50 years older), and last few years one can observe a huge impact on American economy and decreasing level of natural gas import. One can assume that the development will grow significantly and the USA will stay self-sufficient and can start exportation of hydrocarbons - especially LNG. The economy will decide about the share of the natural gas in energy mix - energy balance. In the paper there is a detailed discussion concerning economy of the shale exploration and production (i.e. the costs of drillings, services, geological conditions versus timings and schedule of production). Based on analyzed scope one can predict a stable progress in cost reduction (learning curves) linked with production of shale hydrocarbons.

Opis:
One of the main intentions of the European Union is to create common and liberalizated market of natural gas in Europe. Actions has been taken in this area for a few years, however achived effects do not reach the aims that were assumed at the beginning. The quantity of natural gas consumption in the European Union during last years is characterized by a declining tendency (decreasing usage of natural gas in power sector, higher temperature during autumn and winter season also infulences on limiting of natural gas demand), in 2012 the consumption was forming on the level of 444 billion m3, and for example in 2008 it amounted to 497 billion m3. The regulations concerning the natural gas market embrace all of the elements which have an impact on building consolidated and liberalizated market, it means: transfer, distribution and LNG, storage. The authors of this article wants to draw one's attention to the particular role of underground gas storages and depict change of the tasks, which they have to fulfill on the liberalizating market of natural gas in Europe (ie. Price arbitration). The purpose of this article is to presentthe current situation on the market of storage services, which means available storage capacities, the level of their usage and plans regarding extension and constructing of new capacities.

The increasing production of electricity from renewable energy sources has been accompanied by growing interest in technologies allowing the storage of energy. One of the means allowing its storage is the Power-to-Gas technology thanks to which the excess power may be converted into another energy carrier such as hydrogen. One possibility is to blend the resulting hydrogen with natural gas and inject it into the natural gas grid. The paper discusses both the effect that hydrogen blend has on the performance of gas pipelines, and the main thermodynamic events occurring while the mixture of hydrogen and natural gas is transported.

Opis:
Natural gas is a mixture of hydrocarbons with combustible methane as the main component, the content of which usually exceeds 90. Among the remaining components of natural gas are ethane, propane, butane, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, sulfur compounds. Helium can be also found in some natural gas fields. The composition of natural gas depends on, e.g. the field from which the gas comes, and also way in which it is transported, i.e. pipelines, LNG technology. The quality of natural gas is regulated by respective standards. Gas transmission pipelines are the most popular method, dominating on the international gas market, though LNG technology has recently started to play the more and more prominent role. The intensive development of renewable energy sources is accompanied by the development of the Power to gas technology - the electric energy excess is used for the hydrogen production, which can be directed to the existing natural gas network and such a mixture of natural gas and nitrogen is transmitted. At present transmission pipelines for nitride natural gas Ls and Lw exist in Poland. The aim of this paper is analyzing the influence of natural gas admixtures on the operation parameters of transmission pipelines.

Opis:
Despite all global economic shifts and the fact that natural gas is recognized worldwide as the main and the leading alternative to oil products in transportation sector, there is a huge barrier to switch passenger vehicle segment to natural gas – the lack of refueling infrastructure for natural gas vehicles. The key to solving that problem and providing barrier breaking refueling infrastructure solution for natural gas vehicles (NGV) is home fast refueling units. It operates using natural gas (methane), which is being provided through gas pipelines at client’s home, and electricity connection point. It enables an environmentally friendly NGV’s home refueling just in minutes. The underlying technology is one stage hydraulic compressor (instead of multistage mechanical compressor technology) which provides the possibility to compress low pressure gas from residential gas grid to 200 bar for its further usage as a fuel for NGVs. More than efficiency and convenience, the direct hydraulic compressor technology provides compelling cost and lifetime advantages as well as superior convenience over other solutions. Aims of this article is to compare technical, technological and safety aspects of home refueling units and estimate a perspectives of natural gas vehicles as an alternative for regular vehicles.

To-day, the conventional technologies of coal mining are distinguished several shortages as negative influence on the environment and lower efficiency of coal potential energy use and higher labor capacity of underground works. In accordance with these shortages the natural gas became a play key role in many countries for power generation. During last twelve years the technologies of coal gasification for power generation are developing in the coal areas of the USA and other countries. The novel concept of the local coal and gas and electrical complex (enterprise) had proposed in "Mineral", Ltd and Moscow State Mining Institute. The technology was named through abbreviation as LCGEC. The concept is based on transformation of hard raw coal in a gas fuel through gasification procedure and recovery of coalbed methane and mix of these two gas streams for use the ones into a combine cycle unit for power generation. One from very important problems of LUGEC exploitation is high coalbed methane productivity through extracted wells. The problem is discussing in the report. Implementation of the concept requires an attraction of large investments. For realization of the concept it is need to develop the concept - project of the complex. In the report the methods of main parameters and production capacity and commercial indexes of the LUGEC.

shale gas
Opis:
Shifts in populations and economic structure are as old as population settlements themselves. As technologies change and economies adapt, regional comparative advantages also evolve. Among the most consequential of recently developed new technologies is horizontal drilling, which has opened vast regions of the world to the extraction, development, and use of low-cost energy from shale gas. Economic transitions and structural change are inevitable. The challenge for regional economists, policymakers, and economic developers lies in the identifying and managing these transitions in ways that maximize benefits and minimize the costs that accompany them. Complicating this challenge is the recognition that the geographic distributions of costs and benefits of economic development often do not coincide. This spatial mismatch of costs and benefits has been prominent historically in regional resource boom and bust cycles, many of which have been fed specifically by energy resources. The resources of energy rich regions have often been exploited in ways that provide short- term regional economic benefits and disruption, longer-term economic development often accompanied by environmental and physical infrastructural degradation. Recognizing that we are entering the early stages of one of the most substantial resource based shifts in economic structure in the history of energy resource development, we have the opportunity and the obligation to learn from successes and failures ofprevious economic transition management efforts, and to design strategies that will maximize the benefits and minimize the negative consequences of shale gas development. This contribution identifies and elaborates upon four critical dimensions of the transition management challenge. The first dimension includes the economic and environmental aspects of the extraction activities including drilling, materials assembly and usage including employment, income, capital equipment, and consumables, both manufactured and natural. The second dimension identifies the negative externalities of impacts on off-site physical infrastructure, with a special emphasis on transport infrastructure. In attempting to minimize negative consequences, programs should be developed to leave affected areas no worse off, at worst, and better off if possible. The road network involved in support drilling can extend well beyond the obvious transport arteries, even to jurisdictions that are not direct beneficiaries of severance taxes or impacts fees. The third dimension centers on economic structural changes related to upstream and downstream activities in the production and supply chains, and the fourth dimension concerns the roles of and impacts upon social and institutional structures.
