Opis:
Nowadays one of the most important problems in environmental protection is the pollution of groundwater by derivative products of oil. A common case of the infiltration of the oil derivative products to the ground water system is mainly connected with accidental oil spills in various types of environmental conditions. In this case we encounter numerous types of problems connected especially with the pollution in: 1) aeration zones, 2) saturation zones. The first step is a conceptual model for the proper recognition of the type and scale of the problem. After making a conceptual model it is possible to take a preliminary decision to recognize what sort of pollution is the source of the environmental problem. A study example describes modeling of free products of oil (LNAPL) floating on the groundwater table using MARS (Multiple Areal Remediation Simulator). The multiphase model was made on the basis of theoretical model concepts. In the modeling the recovery and migration of LNAPL are simulated, and the recoverable and residual spill volumes of derivate products of oil are estimated. Modeling indicates the best location of the remediation system and the pumping wells. Additionally, modelling can be applied to manage the remediation system for improving the efficiency and for decreasing the catchment area of piezometers and wells.

Opis:
There is a number of mathematical models applied to simulate the migration of oil-derived pollution, with the LNAPL (Light non-aqueous phase liquid) volumes in the saturation and aeration zones being analysed in two-phase modeling. A number of hydrogeological parameters and the parameters describing the second phase consisting of oil derivatives are assumed for the sake of the simulation. A part of the data predetermined for the mathematical model is applied on the basis of direct investigations in the field or laboratory, whereas some data are based on a literature analysis or are used by analogy to similar areas. The model data should be additionally verified and validated in the mathematical model. In the case of the LNAPL remediation system being simulated, it is the parameters related to the ground-water environment and the parameters defining the free product of oil that are very important in determining the volume of the recovered LNAPL. With a good deal of data applied for the remediation process simulation one may expect model solutions of different levels of reliability.

Opis:
The natural discontinuity or local separation in the plane, which separates the rock in two or many parts, can provide the permeability for fluid movement as water, oil and gas. In low porosity reservoirs, the natural fracture can store a large quantity of hydrocarbons that can be recovered at very high rates. It play a very important role in the minerals exploitation, especially in the sectors of mining and energy which gave an important boost to humanity through the industrial revolution and its associated benefits. So, it is essential to understand the behavior of natural fractures under the influence of other factors such as hydraulic fractures in reservoirs. This paper takes into consideration three models, analyze their results context and ultimately use of new computer program, developed in The Drilling and Geoengineering Department, to make all the necessary operations for each model and give us the results based on provided data.

Opis:
Proppant concentration is one of the main parameters used to design, characterize and describe hydraulic fracturing process, as well as properties of proppant transport and fracturing fluid such as viscosity and viscoelasticity. Low viscosity fracturing fluids decrease proppant transport capability while high viscosity fracturing fluids increase pumping time, proppant transport properties and also the fracture width. A larger proppant size leads to a high permeability of the reservoirs while applying a low stress closure but it requires enough large fracture width to be transported during the process. So combining those parameters in a right way will lead to the achievement of a high performance hydraulic fracturing process. The goal of this paper is to analyze the influence of proppant concentration addition on rheological properties of hydraulic fracturing fluid, using slick water and sand proppant; rheological models are reviewed, and based on the experimental values of different proppant concentrations, the best rheological model describing this process has been chosen based on the best fit curve. A new approach based model is developed in the way of well describing the hydraulic fracturing process. Details are given of the important properties related to hydraulic fracturing fluid. Lab testing results are presented as support to observations made.

Opis:
Throughout the past two decades, there has been a great intensification of research on processes related to hydraulic fracturing. One of the most significant issues is the behavior of proppants under reservoir conditions. It clearly influences the oil production from the stimulated borehole. Quick loss of a fracture conductivity after hydraulic fracturing may be caused by migration of particles into the porous area of the fracture. Another effect is creation of small solid particles as a result of proppant crushing. Mineral sedimentation may occur on grains propping the fracture because of chemical reactions at the area of contact between the proppant and the mixture of reservoir water and the fracturing fluid. The effect of these reactions is changes in the porosity of the proppant package and conductivity of the fracture. The article presents results of a computer simulation of parameter changes of the proppant in reservoir conditions and their influence on oil production. One of paramount factors is proppant grains damage. As a result of a computer simulation, using Fracpro software, the level of decreased conductivity of the fracture was determined. It was also defined that the influence of this phenomenon on lower production in comparison to the situation where proppant damage is not accounted for.

Opis:
The advancements in drilling have always depended on the cost of drilling of new wellbores, therefore mathematical models of the drilling process were elaborated to minimize the cost. The first simple models based on a few fundamental parameters, were then developed into complex, computer-based models employing many variables. Models made for cutter bits are used for PDC tools. They contain formulae accounting for drilling parameters and wearing of the bit. The paper addresses works which prove that in some particular situations the influence of the tools wear on the drop of rate of penetration can be neglected, thanks to which simple formulae are obtained, based on the fundamental parameters and which are easily applicable in the field conditions. The MSE is an amount of energy used for drilling a given volume of rock. This approach is useful and practicable because allows for detecting possible inefficiencies in a relatively short time (as compared to other parameters). Attempts are made to compare the drillability indications ZSP with MSE plots, thanks to which new conclusions and observations can be drawn as far as the analysis and interpretation of drillability plots is concerned.

Opis:
The recent boom in shale gas exploration around the world has sparked a paradigm shift in energy security in many countries in the world. With the successful exploration of shale gas production in the United State’s, many operators are trying to replicate the success in other parts of the world specifically in European countries where the presence of organic rich shale deposits have signaled a promising investment for the recovery of shale gas. Perspective studies for the Polish shale gas field in Poland have been ongoing. One part of this project is the comparison of hydraulic fracture thickness between the U.S shale gas field and Polish for better and effective design and modeling of reservoirs for the optimal exploration and recovery of shale gas. Successful production of natural gas from Polish basins requires a hydraulic fracture stimulation to unlock the gas trapped in the shales coupled with a geologic analysis of the shale rocks.

These systems provide utilization of geothermal energy in reservoirs (i.a. granites) where conventional methods are not possible to use. Operation HDR/EGS involves the use rock heating through warming medium, which flowing between the production and injection boreholes. In most cases medium introduced artifically by hydraulic fracturing. Currently, most of the projects HDR/EGS is in the implementation phase.
