    Opis:
    The aim of this study was to present the current situation of trichinellosis, basing on the results of examination of the tissues of animals hunted in Poland. Investigation was carried out from 1st January to 30th June 2022 in the Department of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases of National Veterinary Research Institute in Poland. Samples were collected out of 103 wild boars (Sus scrofa) and one wolf (Canis lupus), originating from 14 voivodeships. The study of wild boars muscle tissues revealed 89 positive samples, including 60 T. spiralis, 21 T. britovi, two T. pseudospiralis, and five mixed invasions with T. spiralis and T. britovi. In one case no amplification products were obtained. T. britovi was also found in the sample of wolf muscle tissue. This study emphasize the fact that trichinellosis in hunting animals is still a zoonotic threat, and should be closely monitored.

    Opis:
    This article presents the issues of the wild animal welfare, basing on the example of the deer family members, implemented by hunters as part of the conducted hunting management and individual selection, focused on the lack of undesirable individuals. This way of managing renewable natural resources seems to be rational, as it creates the possibility of using the population of individual species on the principles of sustainable development. It allows to regulate population structure, mainly its density and gender and age structures, which directly affect aspects related to animal welfare. At the same time, it was proposed to assess the welfare of wild animals through a modified principle of the five freedoms applicable to pets. Due to behavioral specifics, as well as living conditions and fulfilling basic life functions, such assessment should be based on the “principle of six groups of activities”, performed as part of managing individual populations. Meeting the guidelines resulting from the proposed principle, should ensure optimal conditions for the welfare of wild animals, as well as set out research directions for the assessment of their welfare.
