The scope of historical transformation starting from 1492 could have been caused by the fact that Columbus’s voyages triggered off the process of re-defining rules and connections in the New World inhabited by various peoples. Important questions were raised: how to reconcile the variety of cultures and historical trajectories with a Christian impulse, and mainly with a universality of human values which could harmonize social relations with the variety of peoples and cultures, permeated by the power of otherness and inequality. Those issues brought about political and moral dilemmas for America’s conquerors. One can state that year 1492 symbolized an early dawn of our own era and many towns which were founded in America by Christopher Columbus and his successors became a symbol of struggle for justice, equality and peace for many nations, with memorable victories and failures, the majority of which have been too easily forgotten or ignored. But the most important sign of this significant year 1492 was kindling of the holy fire of the future, which gave hope to release a vital force of America’s peoples, regardless of their skin color and country of origin.

The conclusions let us call him a representative of Catholic irreligious Christianity. Precise identification of Leszek Kołakowski’s faith remains an open issue.

The role of Godparents is to speak on behalf of the infant being baptised during the baptism service itself and to support the parents in bringing the child up as a Christian within the family of the Church, so that that they will confess the faith for themselves and come in due time to confirmation. In order that they can fulfil their role Godparents need be able to make the declarations and promises in the baptism services, which is why the Church of England requires all Godparents to be baptised themselves and normally to be confirmed as well. That is also why it is not possible for a member of another faith to be a Godparent. Those who are baptised as infants normally have to have at least three Godparents. At least two of them have to be of the same sex as the infant and one has to be of the opposite sex. If it proves impossible for there to be three Godparents it is possible for a baptism to take place with one Godfather and one Godmother. Parents can be Godparents to their own children providing there is at least one other Godparent as well. Those who are older when they are baptised have sponsors rather than Godparents. The role of the Sponsor is not to speak for the person being baptised, but to formally present them for baptism and to help them in their growth as Christians after they have been baptised. There need to be at least two and preferably three Sponsors and they are chosen by the candidates for baptism themselves. Like Godparents they need to be baptised and normally also confirmed. As a Godparents, they have a special role. It’s about helping a child to come to know God, encouraging them in their spiritual life and supporting them in their membership of the local church. Godparents will be expected to be attend the child’s baptism, where they will make promises to help to bring them up in the Christian faith. It’s a role that will develop over time, as their godchild grows up and develops their own faith. The most important gifts godparents can give their godchild are their time, presence and prayers, but they will probably also want to mark the baptism or confirmation by giving a special gift. Godparents don’t have to buy expensive gifts. A simple, meaningful present is a good choice – maybe something to be used at the baptism, or a gift to be kept for later.

This article, based on archival sources, presents nuncio Achille Ratti, a future pope Pius XI, and his activity in Poland and in Łódź. His activity took place in a difficult period of the First World War during important systemic changes. In December 1920 the decision was made about the inception of the diocese of Łódź. Achille Ratti contributed to it and is known as the “Polish Pope”.

The issue of apostolic succession is one of the subjects of ecumenical dialogue between the Roman Catholic Church and the Polish-Catholic Church in the Republic of Poland. Thanks to studies conducted in this area, it is possible to ascertain the preservation in the Polish-Catholic Church of the historical succession, originating through the Churches of the Union of Utrecht from the Roman Catholic Church. A difference, howewer, is the approach of the two communities to the succession of the episcopal ministry outside the community of the Church. The Old Catholic Churches, and hence the polish-catholics, do not recognise the validity of episcopal ordinations conferred outside the ecclesial community and without a specific mandate to confer them, even if the proper rite of conferral has been observed. The Roman Catholic Church, while regarding the conferral and reception of episcopal orders without papal nomination as giving rise to excommunication, nevertheless recognises their sacramental effect if the substance, form and proper intention of the conferral have been preserved.

The proposed liquidation of the Church Fund is justified, among other things, by high amounts that churches and other religious associations receive from the state budget and the thesis that the Church Fund makes Poland a confessional state. The author verifies the above arguments on the basis of quoted statistical data on funds spending from the Church Fund in the 21st century and the analysis of the nature and purpose of the establishment of the Church Fund. The data include the budget of the Church Fund and sums transferred for individual purposes and their share in the budget of the Fund. The article also touches on the location of the Church Fund in the Polish system of financing churches and other religious associations and the evolution of its goals.

Opis:
Evangelization, missionary and pastoral activity and inculturation of the Church should be directed towards theological and spiritual analysis in order to discern in the community that a given activity is an interpretation of “signs of times” and complies with the will of God. It is particularly important in overlapping areas of religion and culture as well as of a-religion, where a correct discernment of a “sense of faith” is especially difficult. Very often in the 21st century what we call “culture” has nothing in common with Christian logic and forces people to act in non spiritual terms. There appears then a real threat of forgetting or omitting actions which are understood as spiritual gifts. In the spirit of the renewal of Church’s activities we should adequately apply auxiliary sciences in theological sciences and remember about the limitations of their application. An analysis of the sciences which do not presuppose faith cannot become final for theological sciences and for the pastoral activity of the Church, because the basic premise of theology is a full dependence of the researched reality on God and man who is in relationship with Him. This reality can be interpreted only with spiritual methods.The examples of such activities are presented and discerned by a Polish Divine Word Missionary, Andrzej Pietrzak, through the analysis of cultures evangelization methods and faith inculturation in Latin America. The models applied in those conditions can be a creative help for the Church mission on the old continent. They may contribute to the renewal of conscious and critical search for revelation authentication methods.

In the article under discussion, which consists of three parts, the author, as a priest, monk and many year’s missionary, wishes to present us the timeless missionary character of the Catholic Church. In the 1st part he outlines the teaching of the 2nd Vatican Council and of John XXIII, Paul VI and John Paul II, concerning one of the most fundamental truths of religious life – that Christ is the Way and the Life of the Church. The 2nd part provides an account of the multiplicity and diversity of missionary paths of the Church while the 3rd one deals with missionary teaching of Christ that can be found in the New Testament.

Es gibt nicht so viele Bearbeitungen über das Schicksal der Kirche in Hitlerdeutschland sowie ihr Verhalten gegen Aggression und Fehler der Hitlers Ideologie und Praktik. In den letzten Jahren hat man aber viele Arbeiten auf Grund der weiten Quellenbasis veröffentlicht. Veröffentlicht wurden auch viele Dokumente aus den Vatikans Archiven. In dieser Studie präsentiert man das Problem der Stellung der Kirche und der deutschen Katholiken sowie ihr Angehen gegen die Doktrin und verbrecherische politik des Nazismus. Der Autor zeigt wie Historiker die Genese von Nazismus und seine historisch-gesellschaftlichen Umstände zu erklären versuchen. Es wurden einzelne Phasen und politische Etappen der antikirchlichen Handlungen vorgestellt und dabei verschiedene Reaktionsformen der kirchlichen Gemeinschaft. Der Autor beschreibt die durch das Hitlerregime vorgenommenen Methoden und Mittel um die Kirche zu lähmen und ihre Anwesenheit in der Gesellschaft zu liquidieren. Man hat das Martyrium der Gesellschaft und der deutschen Kirche sowie verschiedene Widerstandsformen dargestellt. Der Autor präsentiert dabei verschiedene Stellung der deutschen Bischöfe gegen den Nazismus sowie Reaktion des Apostolischen Stuhls. Die Analyse der Situation und der historischen Bedingtheit erklärt die beschränkten Möglichkeiten für die erfolgreiche Handlung und den Widerstand gegen die totalitäre Macht. Die heroische Stellung der Kirche verursachte, das die Herrschung der totalitären Ideologie begrenzt wurde. Es war aber nicht möglich Missbrauch und Verbrechen aufzuhalten. Die römisch-katholische Kirche konnte ihre Gleichheit erhalten, weil das Benehmen der Hierarchie determiniert und gescheit war, obwohl Opfer und auch moralische Verluste waren.

In the article the author presents poverty as a sign of the credibility of Christianity. He does so by referring, first of all, to the teaching of the Church (the Second Vatican Council, the Pact of the Catacombs, Pope Francis’ teaching), as well as to contemporary theology. The analysis is viewed from the fundamental theological perspective. Apart from traditional ways of justifying the Church’s credibility, the author proposes a new one – via paupertatis. It means that the Church is as credible as long as it is poor. Poverty is the criterion of its authenticity. By becoming poor, the Church imitates Jesus himself. Thus, in its deepest dimension, poverty has a Christological justification.
