Opis:
Brain death is one of the most important yet difficult issues in contemporary medicine, as well as in the field of ethics. The fundamental issue concerns the legitimacy of employing brain death as the criterion for determining the death of a human being. While acknowledging the reasons for introducing brain death as an indicator of human death, the controversial nature of this criterion cannot be ignored. The definition of death, when human beings are involved, must be free from arbitrary judgements. Thus, efforts to reach a precise definition cannot be reduced merely to issues related to organ transplants, which, unfortunately, have all too often played a paramount role in such discussions. The magisterium of the Catholic Church, while not claiming the right to establish the criteria of brain death determination, or to pronounce on the diagnostic tests aimed at arriving at such a conclusion, insists that the discussion of bioethical issues concerning death per se must take into account a sound anthropological vision, and that criteria of death must be formulated with the utmost rigour and certainty. In this way we are called to act as servants of life, and not the opposite.

Opis:
An article tackles the issue of human death and its connection with the death of Christ in the key of the kenosis category, as proposed by Hans Urs von Balthasar, theologist of the past century. The theologian sees human existence as a donated and simultaneously as an assigned one. From the very beginning, a man’s life heads for death, as man does not exist otherwise in a mortal way. At the same time this mortal way of human existence assumes a feature of kenotic path, wherein a man follows in the footsteps of Paschal’s way of Christ. Kenotic human existence comes before man as a task in life, which makes a man similar and closer to God. Through a work of the Triune God’s salvation, limited in nature and a sinful man was gifted with eternal life. Here, the relationship marked by temporal and eternal life, where death plays a significant role both for the temporal and the eternal man. “Dying in life” and “dedication to the death” are the way of man to the eternal communion with the Triune God. Thus death is not a reality, which is only limited to biological processes, but it covers a broad perspective of human existence, being primarily called by God. Through voluntary consent to its own kenosis of life, wherein a man dies away for himself, and death of kenosis, wherein a man accepts a finite way of existence in the temporal and the inevitability of this occurrence, the man enters into a dialogue of love with God. In this way ars bene vivendi becomes ars bene moriendi. Thanks to God’s presence in the world, which is a presence of eternal divine love, pouring out beyond Him, temporality is contained in the eternity and it is guided to the eternity. In the same way, life emerges from a death through its kenotic mark. The eternal divine love of God is the meaning of human existence. An occurrence of kenosis as a movement of God’s love has changed a meaningful way of death and has caused its revaluation. Death is not the end but it is a transition, somewhat like an entrance into the community life of God, through a voluntary consent and an release of man to Divine will. All of human existence as this one of a called man, is guided to the fullness of love, which is eternal. The man being called to the eternal happiness, is guided to it through love we believe that in eternity to become a loving “watching” love. The road, which approaches that fullness is the way of kenosis. When man faces different obstacles and barriers, man takes a proper attitude towards them through the sacrifice and devotion to free himself of God both in life and in death.

Arranged by topics, the essay covers the early sixteenth – century "Introductorium compendiosum in Tractatum sphaerae materialis Ioannis de Sacrobusto" written in Latin by the Polish scholar Jan of Głogów. The essay explores diverse aspects of his deliberations about the eclipse of the sun which was said to happen during the time of Christ’s death. In Jan`s opinion which was based on astronomical knowledge and ancient writers` judgments, the blocking of the light of the sun when the moon was between it and the earth, was a miraculous event which did not follow the known physical laws of nature and was therefore thought to be caused by God.

Human is a place of a mysterious and complicated synthesis of matter and spirit, the result of which is an ambivalent reality. It implies effects as varied and contradictory as joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain, life and death. Pain and death have always been a source of anxiety and a great unknown in the face of which man has shown his helplessness. On the other hand, human has a reflective awareness of his pain, which highlights the awareness of his own self. Suffering that affects the whole person is also something very personal, which teaches us that we must live our uniqueness responsibly and that, in the depths of our being, everyone is alone with God. The human reaction to the experience of pain and suffering is crying, which indicates reaching the limit of possible behavior. This is the experience of the Renaissance poet Jan Kochanowski, who, after the death of his daughter, devotes a series of nineteen songs to her, being a kind of diary of suffering. The Laments, as they are discussed in the article, are at the same time a diary of the reflections and reevaluations born by this suffering, and at the same time a comprehensive polemic with the basic assumptions of antiquity. The article deals with the issue of crying on three levels: crying over her daughter’s death, crying for herself, and crying over the principles of Kochanowski so far. These considerations were preceded by a reflection on the world order violated by the unrelenting death of a child.

Information about the death has always aroused the interest of people. Especially when it concerned the death of famous people. From the very beginning, it was present in the media space of the live. Over time, oral information was replaced by obituaries in newspapers. Today this role has been taken over by the electronic instruments of social communication. The word „death” in the polish media usually appears in the context of the death of famous person, stars of public life, starting with stage music stars, art creators, athletes or politicians. This article shows the relationship of the medium of social communication, which is the Internet, to the phenomenon of death. The author presented the subject matter based on media reports about the death of three selected polish celebrities died in 2021. These were celebrity men from the world of media (Kamil Durczok), entertainment (Krzysztof Krawczyk) and sport (Artur Walczak). The final conclusions indicate the method of creating posthumous images of deceased celebrities. They show the role of the modern communication medium (Internet) in creating the image of a human being. They also emphasize the issue of journalistic ethics in relation to the topics related to the death of famous people.

Indisputably marriage is one of the most significant aspects of human life. Currently it is often said that in our society we can observe erosion of social relationships, which also cover relationships within marriage. Looking for the answers about the character of this phenomenon, one often points out material difficulties married couples often have to cope with. In order to verify this thesis in this text we present and analyze selected mutual attitudes of spouses in the Levant world in the 10th-11th c. AD in various difficult moments in their lives.

It combines two legal systems: state law applicable to the Republic of Poland and canon law in this respect. The author signals previous legal regulations and thoroughly analyzes current legislation in this area. The article is not only a form of presentation of the current legislation, but also an attempt to demonstrate issues of concerns and it points to the loopholes in this issue.

Opis:
In The Laments, apart from the drama of the father and the poet, we saw the drama of the sage unfolding. The motto of the poem, questions about the attitude of man in the face of his own suffering, the truth about the irrevocability and inevitability of suffering under the influence of misfortune, considerations about the inability of the human mind to penetrate God’s mysteries, the presence of the person and thoughts of Cicero in the poem, all these constitute the wisdom of The Laments. The wisdom was to be the basic principle of human existence, the practical and theoretical principle on which it was to be based. The idea that it is to be internal constancy, understood as immutability, as a kind of lack of internal reaction to the course of things, has been questioned. When the illusion of one’s own wisdom has been understood and rejected, new wisdom emerges. It is to be an internal submission to Providence, an internal transformation under the influence of experience, which cannot be avoided because it is true.

Opis:
The author presents considerations concerning morality criteria based on cultural and philosophical prepositions. Contemporary issues, in particular bioethical ones, make us pose the questions about the hierarchy of norms and, thus, the hierarchy of activities. This automatically leads to the question about the source (or sources) of law. The basis for these considerations is Antigone by Sophocles as a masterpiece with universal message. From the text analysis one can discover the issue of tradition and its role in social life principles determination. This leads to the question about the sources of law – are they transcendental or immanent? The author points out that Antigone uses the word „law” – „νόμος”, „νόμιμα” – only in relation to the divine laws. Creon’s regulations which oppose them are described as „φρόνημα”– inventions. In this way she acknowledges the supreme character of the transcendental norm. Rejection of the reference to the transcendental leads to „absolute contradiction” in the area of prepositions and attainments of legal objectives. This notion („absolute contradiction”) was used by Joseph Ratzinger in Benedict’s Europe in the cultures crisis. It can be said that this contradiction in the modern age comes from different ways of understanding the relationship between the transcendence and science, and, consequently, law by Galileo. Therefore, the premise of absolute autonomy creates „absolute contradiction”. The attempt to overcome this obstacle is respect for the so called „immanent transcendence”, which is expressed in the natural law. However, one must first acknowledge the existence of the objective truth and the possibility of knowing it and the norm which assesses the consistency of one’s action with those reference points. This norm is one’s conscience which has its autonomy in relation to legal norms that are not based on the natural law. Without that acknowledgement the only justification of law would be mere force. In our cultural situation Antigone’s question about the sources of law and its validity as well as how to save human dignity and love remains still pending.
