Theoretical background: The article discusses the activities of organizations located in Poland in the field of sustainable development (SD). This is a specific development, which considers the needs of future generations. These activities may concern environmental, social or economic issues. The identified knowledge gap refers to the type of the most common SD-activities, possible partners in such projects, employee involvement and motivation to participate in such activities, and the perceived advantages and negative aspects of SD-projects.Purpose of the article: The purpose of the article is to evaluate the activities of organizations located in Poland in the field of sustainable development. The described issues include: the type of the most common SD-activities, possible partners in such projects, employee involvement and motivation to participate in such activities, and the perceived advantages and negative aspects of SD-projects.Research methods: The empirical material was obtained from 13 individual in-depth interviews conducted by telephone in 2018.Main findings: The analysed organizations implemented mainly social, but also ecological projects. By the implementation of projects, they cooperated mainly with NGO-partners, but only if it was necessary (e.g. if the NGO had more knowledge and experience in a specific field). Most of the projects were based on the active participation of employees in the form of volunteering; such projects had the most positive effects for the project’s goals, but also for the employees and the company. Hence, companies willingly motivated employees to participate in such projects not only by informational and organizational support, but also through various methods of distinguishing employees (e.g. volunteering gala, cup of coffee with the CEO). Companies see considerable benefits in such projects for themselves and for the staff. The perceived disadvantages are few, and in any case they can be minimized and are fully discounted by the potential benefits.

Opis:
The goals of sustainable development set priorities for a broad range of stakeholders, i.e. individuals, organisations, societies, and states. They translate into career management priorities, with a view to making careers sustainable. The article presents the preliminary results of the analysis of the concept and the range of meanings of a sustainable career. As a result of a critical analysis and the placement of this concept in the area of management and quality, the assumptions and the definition of a sustainable vocational career were formulated, indicating that it is a sequential arrangement of personal work and outof-work experience related to the performance of work that make it possible to retain physical and mental health and to match competences in a manner enabling productive and meaningful work over a long period.

Opis:
The interest in the concept of sustainable development is a form of a scientific response to the challenges of transforming economies, growing expectations of local communities and societies and environmental degradation. Despite numerous definitions of sustainable development, the literature lacks a widely recognised definition of an entity that operates in a sustainable way – a sustainable enterprise. The literature review identified two definition gaps: 1) the lack of defined boundaries within which a company must operate in order to be called sustainable, and 2) the lack of a definition of the relationship between the areas in which sustainability is assessed. The authors of the article propose a new definition of a sustainable enterprise. Moreover, they give examples of organisations that, although in a selected area they carry out sustainable activities, they cannot be called sustainable.

Consumerism of the XXI century consists in the fact that people consume material goods and services that are not supported by actual needs. It is an element of “material” side of thinking, actions of managers, entrepreneurs, which contributed to the threat of global biosphere and the survival of humanity. Excessive consumption generates waste of goods, natural resources and human labor. Additionally there is overproduction and environmental degradation. This results in the need for the development of sustainable consumption and an impact of consumers in shaping the behavior of entrepreneurs in the context of sustainable development. The aim of the author is to show the disparities that have emerged between the sustainable consumer and traditional one and to identify what influences consumerism. The object of the research is a modern consumer − a recipient of goods and services that are offered by companies on the market. This article is a result of a thorough library query clarifying the issue of today’s consumers and their market behavior

Opis:
For many years businesspeople and scientists alike have been involved in a discussion concerning sustainable development, which makes it possible to meet present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own ones. The idea of sustainable development should be implemented at all levels of the economy, including enterprises. According to this concept, considered in a macro scale, sources of modern enterprises’ success are sought in long-term sustainable development, which is realised through economical, ecological and social aspects of their operations. The popularity of this concept has led to a change of ways in which European economies and businesses, which currently face the necessity to reconfigure their strategies including marketing influence on the market, operate. A new concept of sustainable marketing has emerged1. It is closely related to the concept of sustainable development, and in this context, in the micro scale it affects economic development. A new approach to how company’s offerings are created, what are the rules of governing cooperation between suppliers and consumers, how various marketing functions are implemented as well as the analysis and mitigation of adverse influence of these activities on social and ecological environment provide a firm basis for combining the concept of sustainable development and marketing and also changing the negative way of perceiving marketing. On the basis of the review of the management and marketing literature one may conclude that the research which has so far been conducted on sustainable marketing activities is fragmentary and refers to chosen aspects of marketing, i.e. sustainable consumption, ethical aspects of marketing activities and corporate social activities. The research run in macro perspective indicates positive influence of sustainable marketing on the country’s economy. However, it is still very rare. The literature also lacks a comprehensive presentation of the problem. The aim of the paper is to explain the concept of sustainable marketing and to indicate the need for a broader approach, both from micro and macro perspective, when analysing contemporary issues in marketing. The first part of the paper focuses on the essence of modern enterprises. Next, the concept of sustainable development is presented and the role of marketing in this concept, in both micro- and macroeconomic perspective, is indicated. The following section discusses the essence of sustainable marketing and its tools.
