Opis:
In the Kolodiiv site, occur ring in the valley of the Sivka River (tributary of the Dniester River, Ukraine), Vistulian loess forms a subaerial cover over the Pleistocene terrace II. This terrace consists also of Eemian deposits (palaeosol or organic sediments) under lain by an alluvial succession of Wartanian age. The Kolodiiv 2 profile was studied in detail in order to reconstruct the conditions of loess accumulation, and consequently the climatic-environmental changes, that took place in this region. Eight lithogenetic units were distinguished in the profile: five trans formed by pedogenesis, and three loess beds. The main purpose of this study was to conduct a thorough examination of the units lithology, in particular the grain-size distribution, in order to investigate those loess-forming factors that are influenced by environmental changes (i.e. nature of source material, distance and dynamics of transport, type of deposition and redeposition, and hypergenetic processes). To achieve this, 174 samples were taken at 10 cm spacings along the profile, and the grain-size distributions of the deposits were determined using a laser method with 21 grain-size intervals examined in each sample and statistically analyses. Statistical analysis included: calculation of the main grain-size parameters (according to Folk and Ward's method), grain-size index (Ding etal., 1994) and also two statistical tests (Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Spearman rank correlation) applied in order to find differences or similarities between the grain-size distributions of the lithogenetic units distinguished. Stratigraphic variations in grain-size distribution reflect the division of the deposits into stratigraphic units previously arrived at. Mean values of grain-size index (Igs1) indicate that loess units 2, 4 and 6, differ from the palaeosol units 3, 5 and 7. The grain-size distribution of loess deposits in the Kolodiiv 2 profile varies, with marked dominance of the silt fraction, which indicates that these deposits were trans ported by winds of similar velocities carrying material a short distance from source. As the Aeolian conditions that formed loess deposits in the Kolodiiv 2 profile were generally stable, differences in the grain-size distribution of unit 2 representing the Upper Pleniglacial, suggest three cycles of loess deposition during that interval (with the middle cycle characterized by the most distinct, short-term oscillations in environmental dynamics). The variability in grain-size distribution in units 3-5, which to get her represent the Interplenivistulian (Middle Pleniglacial), reflects the climatic heterogeneity of this period. The palaeosol layers are diamictic. Higher values of grain-size indices show that all Upper Pleistocene palaeosol units of high (interglacial) and low (interstadial) rank are characterized by higher content of fine relative to coarse fraction the lowest mean values of grain-size index occur the soil unit 1, of Holocene age, suggests that this unit is probably a product of very recent, Neoholocene pedogenesis and does not represent the en tire Holocene epoch. The statistical tests results show, great similarity between loess units 2 and 4 (from the middle and upper part of the Pleniglacial), and also between palaeosol units 7 and 8 forming the Horohiv slpalaeosol unit (an Eemian palaeosol and interstadial palaeosols from the Early Vistulian). Further more, the individual nature of loess unit 6, deposited during the Lower Pleniglacial, seems to be associated with the climatic characteristics of this interval.

Opis:
Pattern analysis with image transform based on potential calculation was considered. Initial gray-scale image is sliced into equidistant levels and resulting binary image was prepared by joining of some levels to one binary image. Binary image was transformed under assumption that white pixels in it may be considered as electric charges or spins. Using this assumption Ising model and Coulomb model interaction between white pixels was used for image potential transform. The transform was calculated using moving window. The resulting gray-scale image was again transformed to binary image using the thresholding on 0.5 level. Further binary images were analyzed using statistical indices (average, standard deviation, skewness, kurtosis) and geometric signatures: area, eccentricity, Euler number, orientation and perimeter. It was found that the most suitable geometric signature for pattern configuration analysis of Ising potential transform (IPT) and Coulomb potential transform (CPT) is area value. Similarly the most suitable statistics is distance statistics between white pixels.

The behaviour of the Russian state bond market is analyzed. Attention is mainly paid to short-term fluctuations and efficiency of short-term investments. Analysis of return time series has shown that there exists a significant autocorrelation, and that distribution of random fluctuations is non-Gaussian. It predetermines a choice of forecasting schemes. The most efficient ones appear to be non-linear. The efficiency was checked not only by the traditional statistical indices by direct numerical experiments where various types of predictors were used as basic elements of decision rules. The decision algorithms have included the solution to the modified optimal portfolio problem where the forecasts were used as expected returns and the covariance matrix was estimated via forecasting errors.

Gala Lake National Park that has an international importance is one of the most important wetland ecosystems for Turkey. As same as many aquatic habitats, Gala Lake is under a significant anthropogenic pressure originated from agricultural activities conducted around the lake and from industrial discharges by means of Ergene River. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sediment quality of Gala Lake and Irrigation Canal by investigating some toxic element accumulations (As, B, Ni, Cr, Pb, Cd, Zn and Cu) from a statistical perspective. Pearson Correlation Index (PCI) and Factor Analysis (FA) were applied to detected data in order to determine the associated contaminants and effective factors on the system. Potential Ecological Risk Index (RI) and Biological Risk Index based sediment quality guidelines (mERM-Q) applied to detected data in order to assess the ecological and biological risks of heavy metals in the ecosystem. Also Geographic Information System (GIS) technology was used to make visual explanations by presenting distribution maps of investigated elements. According to the results of PCI, significant positive correlations were recorded among the investigated toxic elements at 0.01 significance level. According to the results of FA, two factors, which were named as “Agricultural Factor” and “Industrial Factor”, explained 86.6% of the total variance. According to the results of Potential Ecological Risk Index, cadmium was found to be the highest risk factor and according to results of Biological Risk Index, nickel and chromium were found to be the highest risk factors for Gala Lake and Irrigation Canal. As a result of the present study, it was also determined that heavy metal contents in sediments of Gala Lake National Park reached to critical levels and the system is intensively under effect of agricultural and industrial originated pollution.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term effect of selection cutting management on the stem quality of the trees remaining in the forest. For this purpose, three parcels managed for three decades by selection cutting were selected as managed stands (MP), and two protected parcels without tree felling as control stands (PP). First, the frequency of deformed stems in each parcel was determined for a circular 1000 m2 area of each plot by systematic sampling of 100 m × 100 m grid sections, and then a stem deformity index was estimated for each of the deformed stems. The results showed that the frequency of stem deformity in MP (6.5%) was significantly lower than in PP (20.7%) (p < 0.01). In addition, the frequency of all types of stem deformities in MP was significantly lower than in PP. Furthermore, selection cutting management reduced the indices of twisting, decay, conicity, forking, and ellipticity by 58.4%, 53.9%, 34.7%, 8.4% and 6.8%, respectively. The results for the correlation between frequency of stem deformity and tree diameter at breast height (dbh) showed that the curves followed a parabolic shape in both MP (r = 0.83) and PP (r = 0.80), where the frequency of deformed stems decreased with increasing dbh (up to 75 cm in MP, and up to 65 cm in PP), and then increased with larger dbh. Selection cutting management, regardless of tree species, improved the stem form. Decay accounted for a high proportion (24.1%) of the total deformity in MP, mainly due to logging damage. Overall, the results of this study show that selective management has been successful in improving the quality of tree boles in the studied mixed beech stands. Regular and long-term stand monitoring and statistical quality control (SQC) may be a good approach to aligning ecological and economic goals in forest management.

Badanie procesów gospodarowania środkami publicznymi jest bardzo ważnym aspektem gospodarki finansowej. Narzędziem weryfikacji wyników gospodarowania środkami finansowymi jest badanie wskaźnikowe. Badane wskaźniki dotyczyły wielkości oraz struktury, zarówno dochodów, jak i relacji ogólnobudżetowych a także ich zmian w badanym okresie. Na podstawie badań wskaźnikowych dokonano oceny sytuacji bieżącej i oceniono możliwości poprawy sytuacji w okresie średnim. W badanym okresie dochody ogółem polskich powiatów ziemskich były coraz wyższe. Wartości charakteryzujące strukturę budżetową okazały się korzystne. W badanym okresie udział dochodów własnych w dochodach budżetu ogółem nieznacznie, ale sukcesywnie się zwiększał. Z upływem czasu zwiększał się udział dochodów własnych z majątku oraz pozostałych dochodów własnych w ogólnej kwocie dochodów własnych. Świadczy to o rosnącej samodzielności powiatów. Jednocześnie, w badanym okresie zauważyć można rosnącą tendencję udziału dochodów z podatku dochodowego od osób fizycznych w dochodach własnych. W rezultacie, malejącą tendencję miały udziały z pozostałych dochodów własnych. W większości jednostek powiatowych utrzymywała się korzystna, nierosnąca tendencja, zarówno udziału subwencji w dochodach budżetów jednostek samorządu terytorialnego, jak i udziału dotacji celowych w budżecie jednostki samorządu terytorialnego. Jeśli chodzi o udział dochodów na cele inwestycyjne w dochodach ogółem, wartość tego wskaźnika przez kilka ostatnich lat niekorzystnie się obniżała. Warto tu nadmienić prognozowane odwrócenie tej tendencji. Wyniki badania wskaźnikowego pozwalają stwierdzić, że polskie powiaty ziemskie powiaty działały bardzo ostrożnie i rozważnie, raczej trwając niż pomnażając swojej siły.
Surveying the processes of public funds management is a very important aspect of financial management. The index-based survey is a tool of verification of effects of financial resources management. The surveyed indices related to the volume and structure of incomes and general budget relations as well as their changes in the period in question. On the grounds of index-based surveys, the author assessed the current situation and opportunities for improvement of the situation in the medium term. In the period surveyed, Polish rural districts’ total incomes were higher and higher. The values describing the budget structure appeared to be favourable. In the period in question, the share ofown incomes in total budget’s incomes was insignificantly but steadily increasing. Over time, there was increasing the share of own incomes from assets and other own incomes in the total amount of own incomes. Th is evidences the growing self-suffi ciency of districts. At the same time, in the period in question, one mat notice the growing trend in the share of incomes originating from personal income tax in own incomes. In result, of the declining trend were the shares in own incomes. In the majority of district units, there was retained the favourable, not growing trend both in the share of subsidies in incomes of local governments’ budgets and the share of target-specified subsidies in the local government’s budget. As far as it concerns the share of incomes for investments in total incomes, this indicator’s value was over a few recent years unfavourably decreasing. It is worthwhile to state here the forecasted reverse of this trend.The index-based research findings allow stating that Polish rural districts were acting very cautiously and prudently, rather lasting than augmenting their strengths.

Tablice trwania życia (wymieralności) to konstrukcje teoretyczne budowane w oparciu o rozkłady wieku zmarłych dla modelu populacji zastojowej i ustabilizowanej bądź metodą prawdopodobieństw zgonów z uwzględnieniem struktury wiekowej ludności żyjącej. W niniejszej pracy zaprezentowano możliwości wykorzystania parametrów tablic wymieralności, skonstruowanych na podstawie rozkładu liczby zmarłych w klasach wieku i wartości przyrostu naturalnego, do szacowania wskaźników płodności i mierników sposobności do działania doboru naturalnego przez jeden z jej komponentów – zróżnicowaną wymieralność. Wskaźniki płodności szacowane z użyciem powyższej metody informują nas o potencjale (poziomie) reprodukcyjnym populacji, a sama metoda może być stosowana w sytuacji, kiedy z różnych powodów nie jest możliwe odtwarzanie reprodukcyjnych historii rodzin. Z kolei szacowanie siły nacisków selekcyjnych daje kompleksowy obraz umieralności w populacjach historycznych.
Life tables are theoretical constructions built on the basis of the age-at-death distribution of individuals for the stationary and stable population models, or with the use of the method of probability of death taking into account the population age structure. In this paper the possibilities of using life table parameters constructed on the basis of the distribution of the deceased and the value of population growth to estimate fertility indices and measures of the opportunity for natural selection through one of its components, differential mortality, are presented. The fertility indices estimated with the use of the above-method provide us with a picture of the reproductive potential (level) in a given population, and the method can be used in a situation when, for various reasons, it is not possible to reconstruct the reproductive history of families. On the other hand, the estimation of the strength of selection pressures offers a complete statistical picture of mortality in historical populations.
