Opis:: The article represents a part of a master thesis research project carried out at Klaipeda university. Concepts of biological, emotional, and procedural parenting obligations were utilised to analyse the issues of social work support for adoptive families. Procedural and emotional components were found to raise the biggest challenges. Although fostering and adoption mean raising a child deprived of parental care and usually needing additional help, social work support is mostly oriented towards fostering families. Therefore, social work support for adoptive parents while rather intensive in preparing the necessary documentation, initial training and matching of a family and a child, basically stops after the child arrives in a family. After that support remains purely voluntary and occasional. Research results show that the adoption process needs to be improved by revising training programmes, enhancing inter-institutional communication, and enriching the information provided for adoptive parents. The current procedures are seen as inefficient by social workers and adoptive parents.

Opis:: The aim of the article is to review the applicable normative acts related to the divorce of parents from the point of view of risk and the opportunities they create for the situation of the child and the family. The authors draw attention to the responsibility of social workers and family assistants in the process of supporting families in this crisis. The increasing number of divorces in Poland obliges researchers to undertake scientific discussions and conduct reliable scientific research, the results of which will also be changes in the practical approach of professionals working with families. The first part of the article focuses on the negative consequences of the development of children who are witnesses and victims of a family crisis and the relationship between children and parents. The authors emphasise the essence of tasks undertaken in social work addressed to the whole family experiencing a crisis caused by the breakdown of the parents’ marriage. In the last part of the article, the authors take up a polemic about supervision in social work, as an example of good practice in developing the competence of family assistants and social workers in their professional work.

Opis:: The sexual economy prevalent within universities, as well as how young people perceive, interpret, and experience their sexuality, present complex dynamics, which, if not handled with great emotional intelligence, may disrupt their educational aspirations. This paper investigates the psycho-social implications of “semester marriages” within institutions of higher learning. Guided by principles of the qualitative approach and the theory of planned action, the paper disinterred that students experienced intense regret and guilt as a result of backstreet abortions. Soul-tie complications emanating from sharing the “wife-husband” bond also made it difficult for some students to move on after a breakup, leading to disruptions in their educational focus. In extreme cases, such an inability to deal with the adverse effects of “semester marriages” culminated in crimes of passion. The paper desists from pathologizing the “semester marriages” phenomenon and advocates for the strengthening of psycho-social support modalities within university settings to increase the accessibility and visibility of therapeutic services through a school social work model. Furthermore, universities, in partnership with other relevant stakeholders, are urged to prioritize sexual and reproductive education and services among the youth as provided for in the Constitution of Zimbabwe of 2013 to impart life skills that can equip students to make informed sexual and reproductive decisions.

Opis:: Niniejszy artykuł składa się z dwóch części. W pierwszej przedstawiono historię rozwoju pomocy społecznej i pracy socjalnej od czasów przedchrześcijańskich, poprzez starożytność, aż do współczesności. Następnie w krótki sposób opisano ideę wolontariatu w Polsce. Uwagę zwrócono również na osobę wolontariusza. Przedstawiono, w jaki sposób w naszym kraju działają w organizacjach zajmujących się pomocą społeczną studenci wolontariusze. W drugiej części artykułu dokonano analizy przeprowadzonych wśród studentów resocjalizacji WSIiE TWP badań nad wolontariatem. Na końcu wyciągnięto wnioski płynące z przeprowadzonych badań i dokonano podsumowania całości artykułu.
This paper consists of two discrete parts. The first one illustrates the history of social assistance and social work from its beginnings in the pre-Christian era, following its traces through antiquity up to present times. This picture is rounded off by a short overview of the history and concepts of voluntary services in Poland. Special attention is paid to the personality of the honorary welfare worker. We illustrate, how in Poland student-volunteers, organized in nonbenefit voluntary service organizations, attend to their duties. The second part comprises the analysis of several surveys on the voluntary service conducted by students of social rehabilitation at WSIiE TWP. The conclusions drawn from these surveys and a summing-up of the main issues complete the paper

Duży wpływ na sposób funkcjonowania społeczeństwa mają również występujące konflikty i problemy ekonomiczne, np. konflikt zbrojny w Ukrainie, rosnąca inflacja i postępujące ubożenie społeczeństwa. W ostatnim czasie dostrzegalne jest również zróżnicowanie społeczeństwa na płaszczyźnie politycznej, religijnej, światopoglądowej i kulturowej. Rola i zadania pracowników socjalnych nie pozostają obojętne na zachodzące w świecie zmiany. Potrzeba doskonalenia się, aktualizowania i wzbogacania posiadanej wiedzy jest coraz częściej oczekiwana od tej grupy zawodowej. Pojawiające się nowe problemy społeczne oraz badania prowadzone w zakresie działań pomocowych ukazują konieczność tworzenia nowych możliwości rozwoju, kształcenia i wspierania pracowników socjalnych. Celem artykułu jest próba ukazania zmieniającej się roli pracownika socjalnego oraz znaczenia rozwijania wartości moralnych, nowych umiejętności i strategii rozwiązywania problemów. Istotne jest też dostrzeżenie roli wsparcia, jakim powinna zostać objęta ta grupa zawodowa.
In recent years, there has been a noticeable dynamism and variety in the occurrence of social problems. In addition to the common difficulties of helplessness, poverty and unemployment, new ones are emerging. They are linked to information overload, addictions and the loss of social relationships. The way society functions is also strongly influenced by conflicts and economic problems, such as the armed conflict in Ukraine, rising inflation and the progressive impoverishment of society. Recently, there has also been a significant diversification of society on a political, religious, philosophical and cultural level. The role and tasks of social workers are not indifferent to the changes taking place in the world. The need to improve, update and broaden their knowledge is increasingly expected from this professional group. Emerging new social problems and research in the field of assistance activities show the need for new opportunities to develop, educate and support social workers. The aim of the article is to try to show the changing role of a social worker and the importance of developing moral values, new skills and problem-solving strategies. It is also important to recognize the role of the support that should be provided for this professional group.

Opis:: Times we live in make us question what is going to happen with the world after the pandemic. The struggle against COVID-19 and changes produced will have impact on the mind of many people. Some lose their relatives, who they cannot bury. Others live in a constant state of fear about their health and future living. The world will never be the same. People will never be as they were before this traumatic event. The invisible enemy – coronavirus – will leave a lasting mark on their memory. Many will need support which can be provided by specialist counselling. Many will struggle with a trauma, which will make the return to “normality” impossible for a long time. A traumatic experience is a psychological trauma suffered by a person and caused by a strong, sudden stimulus. This stimulus is intensive enough to cause changes in the areas of soma, psyche and polis, and it also directly threatens health or life of a person. People after a traumatic experience require a complex assistance to return to their normal functioning. Currently, this stimulus is a deadly virus. The article presents the role of the specialist counselling in the area of social work with a person and their family after a traumatic experience.

Opis:: Celem niniejszego tekstu było przedstawienie wybranych typów wsparcia społecznego, struktury ich przyznawania i świadczenia, zakresu podmiotów, do których są one kierowane oraz trybu odmowy ich udzielenia. Wskazane w powyższym artykule formy usług społecznych mają doniosłe znaczenie dla aktywizacji społecznej beneficjentów pomocy, a ich realizacja daje możliwości realnej poprawy sytuacji życiowej, w której znajdują się podmioty zainteresowane. Spośród omówionych rodzajów świadczeń, na szczególną uwagę zasługuje praca socjalna będąca jednym z najistotniejszych przejawów działań pomocy społecznej. Opracowanie to zarysowało również problematykę ścisłego związku zachodzącego pomiędzy pracą socjalną a kontraktem socjalnym. Nakreślono ponadto kwalifikacje, jakie powinien posiadać pracownik socjalny. Równocześnie autor zaznacza, że analizowane wsparcie z zakresu prawa pomocy przysługuje bez względu na dochód beneficjenta, a obowiązek jego zwrotu wiąże się z wystąpieniem szczególnych okoliczności wskazanych w ustawie. Ponadto, wydanie przedmiotowej decyzji w sprawie przyznania bądź odmowy przyznania wybranych usług przeważnie wiąże się przeprowadzeniem rodzinnego wywiadu środowiskowego.
The aim of this work is to present the structure of their granting and provision, scope of entities to which it is addressed and the procedure of refusal to grant it. Forms of social services mentioned in this article have major importance for the activation of social assistance beneficiaries and their implementation provides opportunities for real improvement in the life situation in which there are stakeholders. Among the described types of benefits deserves special attention social work which is one of the most important manifestations of social welfare activities. The study was outlined also introduce a strict connection between the social work and the social contract. Outlined, moreover, the qualifications they should have a social worker. At the same time the author indicates that analyzed support of the law are entitled to assistance irrespective of the income of the beneficiary, and the obligation to refund is associated with the occurrence of the particular circumstances described in the law. In addition, the issue of the decision on granting or refusing to grant the selected services usually involves carrying out family history of environmental.

Opis:: Artykuł przedstawia główne założenia streetworkingu, zwanego też uliczną pracą socjalną. Ta forma wspierania ludzi w sposób szczególny wykluczonych społecznie – dotkniętych bezdomnością, uzależnionych od alkoholu czy narkotyków, prostytuujących się i dzieci ulicy – od pewnego czasu staje się w Polsce coraz bardziej popularna. Jej początki sięgają pierwszej połowy XX wieku tak na świecie, jak i w Polsce, gdzie jej idee propagowali tacy pedagodzy jak Janusz Korczak czy Kazimierz Lisiecki. Streetworking nawiązuje także to najważniejszych założeń pracy socjalnej: indywidualnego podejścia do wspomaganego, poszanowania jego godności, prawa do samostanowienia, uszanowania jego prawa do podejmowania decyzji, także braku zgody na przyjęcie pomocy. Jak prekursorzy pracy socjalnej z końca XIX wieku zwracali uwagę na znaczenie diagnozy środowiskowej jako warunku świadczenia skutecznej pomocy, tak streetworking koncentruje się na tymże środowisku, dosłownie dzieje się w nim. Uliczni pomagacze w kontakcie ze wspieranymi pozbawieni są tej symbolicznej bariery biurka, która czyniłaby z nich urzędników, i wchodzą do obcego sobie środowiska, by w nim szukać ludzi wykluczonych i proponować im wsparcie. Działania te mają na celu podjęcie próby przywrócenia ludzi wykluczonych, stygmatyzowanych społeczeństwu, ale proces ten odbywa się w sposób, w tempie i w czasie wybranym przez wspomaganego. Także określenie zakresu udzielanej pomocy należy do tego, kto ją przyjmuje, nawet w sytuacji, gdy pomagający mógłby zrobić dla niego dużo więcej. Wymienione wyżej grupy osób, do których udają się streetworkerzy, to ludzie wykluczeni społecznie, ale także z niewielkimi perspektywami powrotu do tego społeczeństwa. Jest to szczególnie dramatyczne w przypadku dzieci i młodzieży. Instytucje pomocy społecznej i edukacji wielu z nich nie mają wiele do zaoferowania. Tymczasem streetworking wydaje się adekwatną odpowiedzią przynajmniej na część ich po-trzeb, a z pewnością na te najistotniejsze: potrzebę akceptacji, szacunku, bycia dostrzeganym i słuchanym.
The article presents the main assumptions of streetworking, also called street social work. This form of supporting socially excluded people – affected by home-lessness, addicted to alcohol or drugs, prostitutes and street children – has become increasingly popular in Poland. Its origins date back to the first half of the 20th century both around the world and in Poland, where the ideas of streetworking were promoted by such educators as Janusz Korczak and Kazimierz Lisiecki. Streetworking also refers to the most important assumptions of social work: the individual approach to the person who receives help, respect for his or her dignity, the right to self-determination, respect for his or her right to make decisions, also the decision to refuse help. As the precursors of social work in the late nineteenth century drew attention to the importance of environmental diagnosis as a condition of providing effective help, so streetworking is focused on and happens in that environment. Street assistants don’t have a symbolic barrier of a writing-desk in contact with the supported people that would make officials out of them. Street workers enter the environment which is strange to them to look for excluded peo-ple and to offer them support. The aim of these efforts is try to bring the excluded and stigmatized people to the society in a manner, rate and time chosen by the supported people. The determination of the range of the given help belongs to the person who receives help, even in the situation, when the helper could do much more. The above-mentioned groups of people who are helped by the streetworkers are socially excluded people with little prospects for return to the society. This is particularly dramatic for children and adolescents. Many social welfare and education institutions do not have much to offer. In the meantime, streetworking seems to be an adequate response at least to some of their needs, and certainly to the most essential one: the need for acceptance, respect, being seen and heard.

Opis:: The aim of the article is to join the scientific discourse on the family issues. The article raises the issues of social activity aimed at supporting families. The background to the research was the classic doctrines of social policy. During the exploration, the qualitative research methodology (action research method) and document analysis were used. In particular, reference is made to the classic concepts of political models of the state organized according to the principles of liberalism, socialism and socliberalism as the middle ground between the first two. The obtained research results allowed to draw the following conclusions. On the foundation of political assumptions, proposals are built of model family support arranged in three different circumstances of state governance. Three respective models of family support are outlined, which refer to the liberal (neo-liberal), socialist (social democratic) and socliberal (the third path) assumptions. Each of the models is discussed, i.e. the incentive (marginal) model, the caring (redistributive) model, and the partnership (cooperative) model. The concept of family support models can be a tool for the analysis of real models which are applied today in the countries with a family policy in place. It is the product of many years of research conducted in countries such as Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, England and the United States.

Opis:: St. John Paul II taught that the modern family is under the influence of extensive social and cultural changes. More and more families are experiencing disorientation. There is therefore a huge need for modern family social support, especially in those areas where experiencing difficulties. It seems that one of the most important institutions supporting the family is social work. Therefore, the aim of this article is to show the value of social work in the process of restoring hope to the families lost. In this context, the authors describe the family as the subject of social support, indicating forms of family support in social work, referring to its models, and describe the role and tasks of social workers in this field. Persons (families) suffering must not be left alone. We must awaken her sense of dignity and worth further life. Social workers are a kind of „social doctor” lost families.
XXI wiek niesie wiele obaw, wiele zjawisk społeczno-kulturowych przyczyniających się dezintegracji losów ludzkości. Zjawiska te dotykają też sytuacji rodziny. Św. Jan Paweł II wskazywał, że współczesna rodzina znajduje się pod wpływem rozległych przemian społecznych i kulturowych. Coraz więcej rodzin doświadcza zagubienia bytowania w społecznych uwarunkowaniach. Część z nich doświadcza dysfunkcjonalności, jak również sytuacji patologicznych. Istnieje zatem ogromna potrzeba wsparcia społecznego współczesnej rodziny, szczególnie w tych obszarach, w których doznaje trudności. Wydaje się, że jedną z ważniejszych instytucji wspierających rodzinę jest praca socjalna. Stąd celem niniejszego artykułu jest ukazanie wartości pracy socjalnej w procesie przywracania nadziei zagubionym rodzinom. Autorzy opisują rodzinę jako podmiot wsparcia społecznego, wskazują na formy wsparcia rodziny w pracy socjalnej, odwołując się do jej modeli, oraz opisują rolę i zadania pracownika socjalnego. Osoby (rodziny) cierpiącej nie wolno pozostawić samej. Trzeba obudzić w niej poczucie godności i wartości dalszego życia. Pracownicy socjalni są pewnego rodzaju „lekarzami społecznymi” zagubionych rodzin.

Opis:: Work stress or job-strain and iso-strain are perceived when there is a conflict between the demands placed on a person and their resources to cope with them. They have negative effects on worker health, and organizational productivity and performance. Our study consists of evaluating work stress and its components. 102 workers of different functions (senior managers, supervisors, technicians and executing workers) volunteered and were invited to complete anonymously the Karasek questionnaire (JCQ). The analysis of the results showed a significant prevalence of iso-strain and job-strain. Thus, low decision latitude and high psychological demands are the most widespread stress factors. These results show the need to disseminate information and prevention programs against work stress to managers and staff to ensure the effective performance of a company.

Opis:: With its specific way of functioning and network of interweaving interactions of various character and emotional intensity, the family is an environment where the process of a child’s socialization takes place, social personality develops and patterns of social roles are acquired. A family that malfunctions can trigger deviation mechanisms, thus considerably contributing to a child’s social maladjustment. Due to that, in case the criteria described by law are met, it is necessary to use specific assistance measures and interfere in a family’s autonomy, limit its parental authority and support it in fulfilling educational and socialization functions. Appointing a family assistant is one of the measures of limiting parental authority aimed at helping a family.

Opis:: Prezentowany artykuł poświęcony jest zawodowi asystenta rodziny oraz złożoności jego środowiska pracy. W ramach badań empirycznych starano się uzyskać odpowiedzi na pytania dotyczące współpracy asystenta rodziny z rodzinami wspieranymi, jak również z przedstawicielami instytucji pomocowych: policjantami, koordynatorami rodzinnej pieczy zastępczej, przedstawicielami edukacji i sądownictwa oraz pracownikami socjalnymi. Badano, jak kształtują się wzajemne relacje między grupami społecznymi i jaką pozycję społeczno-zawodową zajmują asystenci rodziny oraz jak oni sami wypowiadają się o swojej pracy. Badania empiryczne przeprowadzono w paradygmacie metodologii jakościowej, na terenie województwa opolskiego. Uczestnikami badań było 111 respondentów. Posłużono się techniką wywiadu pogłębionego, na podstawie trzech odrębnych kwestionariuszy wywiadu, po jednym dla asystentów rodziny, przedstawicieli służb pomocowych oraz rodzin wspieranych. Zebrany materiał empiryczny poddano analizie treści i wyodrębniono liczne wnioski.
This article is about the profession of the family assistant and complexity of their work environment. In the framework of the empirical research attempts were made to answer questions regarding cooperation of family assistants with the supported families and with the employees of aid institutions, such as police officers, coordinators of family foster care, educational and judiciary professionals and social workers. They also sought to identify and depict the mutual relationships among the social groups, to define the socio-occupational position of family assistants and how they perceive their work. The empirical research carried out within the qualitative methodological framework in the Province of Opole. The research sample included 111 respondents. The applied technique was the in-dept interview, relying on three different interview questionnaires, one per each group: family assistants, assistance services, and supported families. The collected empirical material was subjected to content analysis and numerous conclusions were drawn.
