Walenty Szylarski is the author of two Polish grammar books, one in the form of manuscript of 1767 and the other one published in Lviv in 1770. The subject matter of the analysis is fi ve normative resolutions proposed by Szylarski. They concerned: 1) the use of a diacritic over a, 2) the position of ą in the alphabet; 3) the spelling of j before a vowel; 4) the nominative and accusative cases of singular neuter nouns ending with -ę; 5) the instrumental and locative cases of singular and instrumental case of plural masculine and neuter adjectives. Szylarski’s suggestions concerning orthography had two basic causes: one was the lack of standardised, generally accepted rules of o rthography (fl uctuations in the use of endings), the other was the incompatibility of the spelling convention and the properties of language in use (j, -ę in the fi nal position, position of ą in the alphabet, use of a diacritic over the conjunction a). Some of the orthographic proposals were noticed, while others were not.

Autorka artykułu pokazuje, z jakimi problemami musi zetknąć się uczestnik komunikacji językowej, jeśli respektuje zasady inkluzywności i chce pozostać w zgodzie z normą językową. Językowa inkluzywność dotyczy osób i grup społecznych dyskryminowanych ze względu na cechy, na które nie mają one wpływu, m.in. płeć, rasę, kolor skóry, orientację seksualną, przynależność do mniejszości narodowej, sprawność fizyczną, kondycję psychiczną. Problemy normatywne związane z mówieniem i pisaniem o tych grupach są rozpatrywane na różnych poziomach organizacji tekstu: semantyczno-pragmatycznej, leksykalnej, fleksyjnej, składniowej.
The author of the article describes problems a participant in a language communication must encounter if he/she obeys the principles of inclusiveness and wishes to act in accordance with the linguistic norm. Linguistic inclusiveness refers to individuals and social groups discriminated against for features beyond their control, including sex, race, skin colour, sexual orientation, national minority membership, physical fitness, mental condition. Normative problems connected with talking and writing about these groups are considered at various levels of the text organization: semantic-pragmatic, lexical, inflectional, and syntactic.

The aim of this article is to analyse the attitude towards the linguistic norm of the first-year students of Romance Philology in Warsaw through the auto-narration. By this tool, belonging to the qualitative methodology, the learner performs a retrospective introspection and thus ‘evaluates’ the learning, in our context – his learning of grammar. The stories of students-future philologists will be analysed according to the following aspects: the importance given to the linguistic norm (understood here as the need for grammatical correction), the perception of its ‘utility’ in relation to other competences and language subsystems, the relationship between awareness of the norm and the effectiveness / quality of communication in a foreign language.

The article contributes to the discussion on the interpretation of processes taking place in the contemporary Polish language from two perspectives: diachronic and synchronic (ahistorical, to be precise). The author draws attention to the problem of not accounting for the achievements of diachronic linguistics, which is visible in the studies devoted to the analysis of the language used by the contemporary Poles. This leads to a situation in which the same research questions are not infrequently examined and interpreted in completely different ways in synchronic studies and those dealing with the history of language. Sometimes the differences are so vast that coherent scientific discourse becomes disabled. Enriching the investigation of the processes occurring in the contemporary Polish language with conclusions drawn from analysing historical sources is thus an important claim. Considering the diachronic perspective could be particularly beneficial for discussing the issue of the norm. Since a number of problems with language correctness result from tendencies and processes which have been happening in language for centuries, only becoming acutely aware of them can bring a change in understanding codification and the linguistic norm.

This article focuses on the important problem of codification of the most recent borrowings of British and American English origins in the contemporary Russian language. Standardization of loanwords is a current issue of vital importance, as it has a global reach, which means that it affects not only the Russian language but many other national languages that are under the influence of the English language – the contemporary lingua franca. The codification of the lexis of foreign origin is examined based on material obtained from contemporary lifestyle magazines published in Russian. This type of press disseminates borrowed neologisms particularly intensively and, at the same time, creates the language use of the given discourse. The excerpted vocabulary items have been confronted with the lexis of the most recent Russian spelling dictionaries. The deliberations contained in this paper show a fragment of linguistic reality changing under the influence of ubiquitous English language, where common usage competes with the linguistic norm. The article shows the difficulties caused by lexical transfer of loanwords faced by specialists in prescriptive linguistics (e.g. a common problem of orthographic variation).
Niniejszy artykuł zwraca uwagę na istotny problem kodyfikacji najnowszych zapożyczeń anglo-amerykańskiej proweniencji we współczesnej ruszczyźnie. Temat standaryzacji zapożyczeń jest aktualny i niezwykle ważny, bowiem ma on zasięg globalny, zatem dotyczy nie tylko języka rosyjskiego, lecz wielu innych języków narodowych, które znajdują się pod wpływem angielszczyzny – współczesnej lingua franca. Badanie kodyfikacji leksyki obcego pochodzenia oparto na materiale zaczerpniętym z najnowszych rosyjskojęzycznych czasopism kolorowych typu life style. Ten rodzaj prasy szczególnie ochoczo rozpowszechnia zapożyczone neologizmy, jednocześnie kreuje uzus danego dyskursu. Wyekscerpowany materiał porównano z leksyką zawartą w najnowszych słownikach ortograficznych języka rosyjskiego. Niniejsze rozważania dają obraz fragmentu rzeczywistości językowej zmieniającej się pod wpływem wszechobecnej angielszczyzny, w której uzus konkuruje z normą językową. Ponadto wskazano tu szereg problemów wywoływanych zapożyczeniami leksykalnymi, z którymi zmagają się specjaliści z obszaru językoznawstwa normatywnego (np. powszechny problem wariantywności ortograficznej zapożyczeń).

Artykuł ukazuje memobłędy jako funkcjonalne odstępstwa od normy językowej na różnych jej poziomach — ortograficznym, ortofonicznym, fleksyjnym, składniowym i słowotwórczym. Internauci tworzą tego typu wyrażenia jako narzędzie zjadliwej krytyki znanych osób lub grup społecznych, lecz także po to, aby przekazać trudne do wyrażenia w komunikacji pośredniej stany emocjonalne (np. nieszkodliwą zazdrość za pomocą słowa zazdraszczam). Memobłędy mogą być uznawane za odrębne memy kultury (w rozumieniu Dawkinsa), ponieważ przejawiają takie ich cechy, jak zaraźliwość, dialogiczność czy hiperbolizacja rzeczywistości. Niektóre opuszczają memosferę i przedostają się do potocznego języka mówionego (np. madka, ten uczuć, odzobaczyć), nie stanowią jednak większego zagrożenia dla jego poprawności.
This paper examines intentional mistakes (called memobłędy, which is a Polish word coined from a combination of words ‘meme’ and ‘mistake’) as functional deviations from the linguistic norm on its different levels, regarding spelling, ortophony, inflexion, syntax and word-formation. Internet users create such expressions not only to criticize public figures or social groups in a scathing way but also to express feelings which are hard to describe in an indirect communication (e.g. harmless jealousy – zazdraszczam). The intentional mistakes may be considered as a distinct type of memes, which are units of cultural transmission (due to Dawkins’s theory), because they are viral, dialogical and hyperbolizing. Some of them go beyond the realm of memes and become a part of the colloquial spoken language (e.g. madka, ten uczuć, odzobaczyć) but they do not affect its correctness in any significant manner.

The article deals with the description of the problem of tolerance and hostility that takes place during the period of a radical social change, the intensification of the inter-ethnic and interreligious conflicts, the establishment of the humane relations between people and states, all of which are characteristic features of modernity, which entails a considerable interest in defining the essence of these concepts, the development of the effective forms and methods of education, a tolerant personality.

This article presents a subsequent stage of research into the textual variability of alterations of the phonetic forms in the first Polish edition of Księgi o gospodarstwie by Piotr Krescentyn (Krakow 1549). The ir || er group has been analysed as continuants of the Proto-Slavic conjunctions *ir, yr. The status of the discussed phonetic alternation depends on the core location and the textual distribution. It has been established that within the specific cores, the status of the alternation attested in Cresc is related to the status identified in other printed texts of that time and is considerably progressive. The second part of the text (CrescII) tends to be much more normalized where the innovative forms are preferred. However, this part of the text also tends to be most diversified with respect to the analysed phonetic alternation. A differentiation of the textual distribution of the opposite forms has also revealed two new text boundaries stretching between columns 409/410 and 524/525.

The article is a continuation of research concerning textual differences of the distribution of variant graphic and phonetic forms in the first Polish-language edition of Księgi o gospodarstwie by Piotr Krescentyn (Helena Unglerowa, 1549). The analysis comprised the markings of the secondary anticipatory nasality. The article proposes a graphic interpretation of this phenomenon. Such interpretation results from the recognition as common a phenomenon of nasalization of labial vowels before nasal consonants. Different distribution of the studied forms in the text proved significant – it revealed not only the segmentation of text already known from previous analyses (graphic and phonetic – boundaries 429/430 and 485/486), but also three new, previously unknown text boundaries running between columns 477/478, 501/502 and 531/532. The convergence of the separated boundaries with a division of text into typesets was confirmed three times. This attests to a strong dependence of the discussed phenomenon on the type-setting factor. A comparative analysis demonstrated that as far as marking the secondary nasality is concerned, Księgi bear witness of the condition unknown in other prints from this period, which is closer to some 16th-century manuscripts, especially the letters of Stanisław Koszucki.

W artykule na materiale tekstów „Gazety Polskiej Bukowiny” reprezentujących pisaną odmianę polszczyzny odziedziczonej na Ukrainie przeanalizowano swoiste na tle skodyfikowanej normy ogólnopolskiej formy grzecznościowe w zakresie sposobów zwracania się do adresata, składania gratulacji i życzeń, podziękowań, a także używania słów pan/pani przed antroponimami w strukturach nieadresatywnych tekstów informacyjnych. Ujawniono przyczyny trwałości tych form w małej wspólnocie komunikatywnej: interferencja z języków wschodniosłowiańskich, oddziaływanie uzusu ogólnopolskiego, tradycyjność określonych struktur na tych trenach, także szereg czynników pozajęzykowych – np. chęć szczególnego wyrażania szacunku wobec odbiorcy, ocieplania z nim relacji, ekonomiczność wyrażeń językowych, wreszcie akceptowalność swoistych jednostek etykietalnych w ramach wspólnoty.
In this article, the author analyses honorifics in relation to the codified general Polish norm in terms of the modes of addressing people, congratulating and well-wishing, as well as the use of the words “pan/pani” (sir/ma’am) in front of anthroponyms in non-addressable structures of information texts, on the basis of the texts of the Gazeta Polska Bukowiny periodical which represent the written version of Polish as a heritage language in Ukraine. The author reveals the reasons for the persistence of those forms among the small linguistic community: instances of interference from East Slavic languages; influence of the general Polish usage; the traditions of specific structures in those areas; as well as a series of extra-linguistic factors, e.g. the intention to express respect towards a recipient, warming relations with them, the efficiency of linguistic expressions, and, finally, the acceptability of specific etiquette units within a community.

Opis:
Przedmiotem artykułu jest stosowanie wielkich liter w polskich i hiszpańskich tekstach prawniczych w kontekście przekładu. Wychodząc z założenia, że błędne użycie wielkich liter w tłumaczeniu wynika przede wszystkim z transferencji negatywnej, analizujemy czynniki mogące wpływać na pisownię nazw organów, instytucji i urzędów w tekstach prawniczych. Przeprowadzona analiza porównawcza wskazuje, że problem ma bardzo złożony charakter, gdyż wymaga uwzględnienia zarówno odmiennych zasad językowych, jak i norm o charakterze prawnym i instytucjonalnym (tłumaczeniowym), które w różnych konfiguracjach determinują zapis określonej nazwy. Dodatkowym czynnikiem utrudniającym właściwe tłumaczenie jest uzus kształtowany przez wspólnotę praktyków i wyraźna tendencja do majuskulizmu w hiszpańskim dyskursie prawniczym.
The aim of the article is to analyze the use of capital letters in Polish and Spanish legal texts from the translation perspective. Referring to the hypothesis that the problems of orthographic nature arise mainly due to the negative interference, we consider other factors that may influence the problem. The comparative analysis proves that translators of the legal texts (e.g. sworn translators) have to take into consideration not only linguistic but also institutional and legal factors, as well the usage created by the community of practice.
