Social problems are defined, inter alia, through social resonance arousing in society or being identified by charismatic individuals. In the 80s of the twentieth century, such an individual was Rev. Jerzy Popieluszko. His sermons arouse awareness of the existence of certain problems which should have been faced by the government. Some of those problems were related to families. They fall into three categories: violation of ethical principles, political and economic problems, and social problems. The text analyzes Jerzy Popieluszko’s speeches, emphasising the problems of families and being categorised by him as: breaking the axiological system. Those problems stemmed from the disrespect for human dignity, injustice, lack of freedom and hypocrisy.
Problemy społeczne są definiowane między innymi poprzez rezonans społeczny, jaki wzbudzają w społeczeństwie, lub też wskazanie ich przez charyzmatyczne jednostki. W latach 80. XX wieku taką jednostką był ks. Jerzy Popiełuszko. Jego kazania uświadamiały istnienie określonych problemów, z którymi winna zmierzyć się ówczesna władza. Część tych problemów dotyczyła rodzin. Można je podzielić na trzy kategorie: łamanie zasad etycznych, problemy polityczno-gospodarcze, problemy społeczne. W tekście dokonano analizy przemówień Jerzego Popiełuszki, wskazując problemy, które wyróżniał w kategorii: łamanie systemu aksjologicznego. Problemy te wynikały z nieposzanowania godności osoby ludzkiej, niesprawiedliwości, braku wolności i zakłamania.

One of the many topics that have found their place in the teaching of Fr. Jerzy Popieluszko was the truth about freedom and human dignity. Żoliborz preacher of his life, and in every sermon preached during the Mass. for the Homeland in the church Stanislaus Kostka in Warsaw's Żoliborz, courageously stood in defense of fundamental values that shape society and man. The issue of freedom he effected a distinction between freedom: inside and outside. Despite the many socio-political changes in Poland and Europe in many regions of the world. Especially when changes leading to democracy and economic liberalism, human freedom is sometimes treated lightly. Freedom „external and internal” so much at stake in times of ministry of Fr. Popieluszko, is again in danger of enslavement „interior” of man through various ideologies and trends. „Martyr of communism” very often emphasized that the freedom given to man is not itself a goal, but a means to an end, and this goal is good, namely, love. What regulates the correct procedure in freedom and using it, the Decalogue, and guided by the law of God's love. He expressed Fr. Jerzy Popieluszko in his preaching. Life Christian truth, he put a sensible use of the gift of freedom.

Blessed Father Jerzy Popieluszko and the sermons he gave during the famous “Mass. for the Homeland”, the history of the Church in Poland are permanently inscribed. In his teaching, he defended and appealed for the concern of basic values for man and society (truth, freedom, justice, love, fortitude, Homeland). Among the many topics and values that appear in “zoliborz teaching”, the place has also found its place − solidarity. It has dual meaning here as it refers to NSZZ “Solidarnosc” and to the concept of idea as a common good. Fr. Popieluszko solidarity defined as the unity of complex hearts in action towards the common good, the constant pursuit of the nation, the society for truth, justice and freedom. Contemporary society, man, is often accompanied by the loss of interpersonal links leading to selfish materialism, the rejection of the idea of solidarity. Therefore, in this light, the teaching of Fr. Popieluszko appears as still up-to-date. Appropriate approach to the idea of solidarity and its realization excludes exploitation from society, any oppression and annihilation of others, and the spirit of solidarity becomes the path to peace and the development of society. Solidarity becomes the cornerstone of the inner and outer peace of man and of the community. Solidarity cannot be considered as one of many grounds for human and social life, but as a foundation from which other principles spring up, as pointed out by Blessed Father Jerzy Popieluszko.

There was a number of recurring themes appearing in Blessed Jerzy Popieluszko’s (1982–1984) sermons. Patriotism, however, is a chief one. The martyr priest wanted to form the national awareness, promote the love for the Country and present the Polish past. The historical examples include the 19th-century uprisings, the world wars, the Battle of Warsaw, the restoration of independence in 1918, The Warsaw Uprising, the anti-Soviet guerrilla warfare and the working-class strikes spanning till 1980. The preacher did not include the historical references just to present facts, although this would have made sense in the context of the Communist propaganda. The main purpose was to show to the fellow Poles the meaning of self-sacrifice and suffering as a price which had to be paid in the struggle for national liberty over centuries. Moreover, the preacher intended to keep up the spirits of the nation terrorised by the martial state and to give hope stemming from the religious and patriotic values. In Blessed Jerzy Popieluszko’s mind they would eventually pave the way towards Polish freedom and independence. 
Wśród wielu tematów, które w swoim  nauczaniu, głoszonym podczas Mszy św. za Ojczyznę (1982-1984), podejmował bł. ks. Jerzy Popiełuszko, na wyróżnienie zasługuje kontekst patriotyczny. Miał on na celu m.in. formację tożsamości narodowej, miłości do Ojczyzny wiernych oraz przekaz dziejów Polski. Służyły temu odwołania męczennika komunizmu do przeszłości kraju, które zawarł w swoim nauczaniu. Wśród wielu wydarzeń przywołanych przez błogosławionego należy wskazać m.in. na: powstania narodowe w XIX w., dwie wojny światowe, bitwę warszawską, odzyskanie niepodległości w 1918 r., powstanie warszawskie, pamięć o Żołnierzach Wyklętych czy powojenne strajki robotników, aż do tych z sierpnia 1980 r. Wszystkie powyższe odwołania w przepowiadaniu warszawskiego kaznodziei były nie tylko zwykłym prezentowaniem faktów, skądinąd równie potrzebnym w państwowej propagandzie komunistycznej, ale przede wszystkim ukazaniem rodakom istoty poświęcenia i cierpienia, jaką okupiona były idee narodowe i wolność Ojczyzny na przestrzeni wieków. Celem było również podtrzymanie w wiernych, umęczonych terrorem stanu wojennego, nadziei oraz religijno-patriotycznych wartości, w realizacji których ks. Popiełuszko dostrzegał realną drogę ku przyszłej wolności oraz suwerenności Polski.

Despite the large number of publications about the figure and activities of Father Jerzy Popiełuszko, there is a shortage of reliable academic studies analysing the documentation concerning the priest produced by the communist apparatus of repression. The aim of the present text is to present the reports of secret collaborators focused on Father Popieluszko and an extensive historical analysis of their activities. For the purposes of this text, the work files and personal files of three secret collaborators with pseudonyms were analysed: „Jankowski”, „Kustosz”, „Tarcza/Miecz”. The personalities of these persons and the file references were previously known and mentioned, mainly by journalists, but no solid scholarly work, apart from the files of tw „Jankowski”, has been done so far. The records of tw „Janusz” and the steelworkers „Bogdan”, „Uczciwy” and „Fredek”, which have not been mentioned so far, were also discussed. The basic sources for investigating this issue are the materials produced by the Ministry of the Internal Affairs, above all personal files, work folders and records from card files.
Mimo dużej liczby publikacji poświęconych osobie i działalności księdza Jerzego Popiełuszki, brakuje rzetelnych opracowań naukowych analizujących dokumentację dotyczącą księdza wytworzoną przez komunistyczny aparat represji. Celem niniejszego tekstu jest przedstawienie doniesień tajnych współpracowników skupionych wokół księdza Popiełuszki oraz pogłębiona analiza historyczna ich działalności. Na potrzeby niniejszego tekstu dokonano analizy teczek pracy i teczek osobowych trzech tajnych współpracowników o pseudonimach: „Jankowski”, „Kustosz”, „Tarcza/Miecz”. Personalia tych osób oraz sygnatury akt były wcześniej znane i wspominane, głównie przez dziennikarzy, jednak nie doczekał się do tej pory rzetelnego opracowania naukowego, poza aktami tw „Jankowskiego”. Poruszono także nieomawiane do tej pory zapisy dotyczące tw: „Janusza” oraz hutników „Bogdana”, „Uczciwego” i „Fredka”. Podstawowymi źródłami do zbadania tego zagadnienia są materiały wytworzone przez Ministerstwo Spraw Wewnętrznych, przede wszystkim teczki osobowe, teczki pracy oraz zapisy ewidencyjne z kartotek.

The central theme of the teaching of Fr. Jerzy Popieluszko was to serve the truth. Zoliborz preacher was consistent in proclaiming the need for the presence of values in society, but most of all, in the life of every human being. Priest Jerzy noticed that the pursuit of truth is not only inscribed in human nature, but also in his vocation. The basis of social order and internal peace of man is the truth which liberates man from servitude and evil. Today, even it is becoming a current need for the presence of truth. Fr. Popieluszko preached that based on divine Revelation, the Christian is bound to give witness to the truth and that they belong to Christ, your life. Also sees the suffering that comes to experience the man when he wants to live and act in truth, as befits a Christian, but he was thus convinced of the value of suffering and need courageous witness to the truth. Today there is no shortage slavery of ideologies, which insidiously trying to enslave the modern man internally. Man is always required to defend fundamental values, and above all to give witness to the truth on the model of Jesus Christ. At any time you will need heroic witnesses to the truth, going out in defense of Christian values. He knew that Fr. Jerzy Popieluszko himself who does not deny the truth and Christ when he had to give his life for the truth.

W historii Polski i Kościoła katolickiego w Ojczyźnie nie brak heroicznych świadków, których postawa, słowa i świadectwo stały się pewnym „znakiem rozpoznawczym” danego okresu dziejowego. Niewątpliwie taką postacią jest bł. ks. Jerzy Popiełuszko, którego nauczanie i słynne „Msze św. za Ojczyznę” – stały się symbolem końca XX wieku w Polsce. Ze wspomnianymi nabożeństwami wiązał się pewien zwyczaj dekoracji plastycznych, które zdobiły prezbiterium kościoła św. Stanisława Kostki podczas każdej „Mszy za Ojczyznę”. W formie plastycznej wyrażały one treść tematyczną danego nabożeństwa, stanowiąc tym samym przesłanie patriotyczno-narodowo-religijne. Przeważała w nich tematyka historyczna nawiązująca do ówczesnych wydarzeń oraz elementy religijne. Artykuł prezentuje wybrane dekoracje plastyczne, również w odniesieniu do danych kazań „żoliborskiego kapłana”. Analiza i prezentacja dzieł artystycznych jest możliwa dzięki zbiorom archiwalnym Ośrodka Dokumentacji Życia i Kultu Bł. Ks. Jerzego Popiełuszki.
In the history of Poland and the Catholic Church in the Homeland there is no lack of heroic witnesses, whose attitude, words and testimony has become a certain “sign of” a given historical period. Undoubtedly, such a character is Bl. Rev. Jerzy Popieluszko, whose teaching and famous “Mass. For the Homeland” – became a symbol of the end of the twentieth century in Poland. With these services, there was a certain custom of plastic decoration that decorated the chancel of the church of St. Stanislaw Kostka during each “Mass for Homeland”. They expressed the thematic content of the given service in a plastic form, thus constituting a patriotic-national-religious message. There were prevailing historical themes referring to the events at that time and the religious elements. The article presents chosen plastic decorations, also referring to the sermons of the “Zoliborz priest”. The analysis and presentation of works of art is possible thanks to archival collections of the Center for Documentation of the Life and Cult of Bl. Rev. Jerzy Popieluszko.

Problematyka tekstu koncentruje się wokół roli wzorów osobowych w wychowaniu do wartości. Celem artykułu jest udzielenie odpowiedzi na następujące pytanie badawcze: Jak wychowywać młodzież do chrześcijańskiej dojrzałości kierując się wzorem błogosławionego ks. Jerzego Popiełuszki? W rozważaniach odwołano się do koncepcji chrześcijańskiej dojrzałości autorstwa Mariana Nowaka. Wykorzystano metodę biografii historyczno-pedagogicznej. Na podstawie wybranych opracowań i tekstów źródłowych poświęconych życiu i działalności ks. Jerzego wykazano, że już na etapie wczesnej dorosłości doskonale spełniał on kryteria chrześcijańskiej dojrzałości wyszczególnione przez Nowaka: stworzył projekt życia autentycznie ludzkiego i stale kształtował w sobie cechy umożliwiające urzeczywistnianie tego projektu (sumienność, autentyczność, odwaga). Wymienione kryteria wypełniał w optyce wiary chrześcijańskiej, dla której ostatecznym celem jest zbawienie i życie wieczne. Wychowując młodych ludzi do dojrzałego chrześcijaństwa warto kierować się wzorem ks. Popiełuszki i kształtować ich osobowość zgodnie z wyznacznikami opracowanymi przez Nowaka. Jako pomoc w wychowaniu jawią się konkretne przykłady z życia ks. Popiełuszki, będące inspiracją, jak formować w wychowankach chrześcijańską dojrzałość.
The paper focuses on the personal model role in upbringing towards higher values. The objective of the text is to answer the following question: How can the example of Blessed Father Jerzy Popiełuszko be used in raising the youth to be mature Christians? To analyze the problem, the author uses Marian Nowak’s concept of Christian maturity. The method she uses is historical/pedagogical biographic analysis. Selected studies and source texts prove that even at an early stage of his life, Popiełuszko fulfilled the Christian maturity criteria specified by Nowak: he envisioned a truly human life and permanently practiced features that facilitated its realization, such as scrupulousness, authenticity, and courage. He fulfilled these criteria as a Christian for whom the ultimate meaning of existence is salvation. It is worth remembering this role model and raising young people according to Nowak’s criteria. It may be helpful to show some dramatic events from Popiełuszko’s life, which may serve as inspiration on how to develop Christin maturity.

The study entitled: La missione del sacerdote nel pensiero del beato don Jerzy Popiełuszko – un martire contemporaneo della Polonia (“The Mission of the Priest in the thought of Bl. Jerzy Popiełuszko, a modern priest-martyr from Poland”) explores the theology of priesthood in the light of the thought and example of Bl. Father Jerzy Popiełuszko. The essay covers the following issues: 1) Fr Jerzy Popiełuszko in the context of the times he lived in; 2) The mission of the priest is to be close to God and to people; 3) The mission of the priest is to proclaim the Good News; 4) The mission of the priest is to minister the Sacraments; 5) The mission of the priest is to nurture hope; 6) The mission of the priest is to die for the Faith. The Author concludes that the phenomenon of Fr Jerzy Popiełuszko, which came into its full force after his martyr’s death, allows us to see him as a clear model for modern priests. The blessed martyr from Warsaw reminds us that sanctity can be attained and lived in all historical contexts. Fr Jerzy also comes across as an exemplar of a very engaged shepherd of souls who walked the path to holiness whilst also working closely with many lay people who showed a special readiness to work with him and solicitude for the good of the Church in a world at war against God, the Church and its priests.

Opis:
In the history of the Church one finds an event wherein a mother wasquestioned in the beatification process of her son. This occurred in the caseof Marianna Popiełuszko, who before the court of beatification in Warsawin 1997, responded to all the questions put to her in order to assess the lifeand work of Fr. Jerzy Popiełuszko as a candidate for sainthood by Churchauthorities.From these testimonies there emerges an interesting picture of the lifeand death of Fr. Popiełuszko, as well as his faith and steadfastness. It helpsto read the true intentions which were of a religious nature that guided himduring his activity. Moreover, this confirms the martyrological nature ofhis death, in which what counts is not only the anguish inflicted, but thereason for one’s achievements. This also demonstrates that martyrdom wasthe crowning achievement of his life of faith and love, which was associatedwith forgiveness that is opposed to hatred or vengeance.This vision of martyrdom is consistent with the classical understandingof martyrdom in the Church, which is not limited only to the moment ofdeath, but applies to the entire life of the martyr.
