Polish community in Sweden - Opis:
- The purpose of this dissertation is to try to show how Polish-Swedish families come into being, how they function, what is the cultural environment in the context of national identity and the heritage of development of Polish-Swedish contacts. The research hypothesis in the dissertation is the claim that human migra-tion is a civilisation phenomenon and that ethnically mixed marriages are em-bedded in the process, while mixed Polish-Swedish marriages show that in real-ity the marriages are strongly determined by the cultural identity (including but not limited to tradition) of both parties and pursuance of social policy by the state and various political organisations. The applied research methods have been taken from political science re-search. Of high significance was the system method. The picture of the Polish community permanently living in Sweden has been considered as one system (structural wholeness), where various elements are connected, interlinked at many levels and have an impact on one another. The basic research technique in the research procedure was analysis of the source materials and literature on Sweden’s cultural identity and on phenom-ena and processes concerning occurrence and functioning of mixed Polish-Swedish marriages.
