The goal of this study was to evaluate working postures in 9 operations of poultry farming for broiler chickens for 14 body segments with 4 categories, and for fingers with 14 categories. Overall, the farmers commonly bent almost all their body segments and used power grips. The operations of cleaning with water wand and inspecting chickens seemed light work because the farmers walked around most of their working time. The operations of detaching base from hanging feeder and attaching base to hanging feeder had the farmers continue squatting to handle the feeders close to the floor. The farmers also repeatedly bent their trunks in shoveling feces, unloading a box of chicks, and releasing chicks. A power grip was frequently observed due to using tools with round handles. Workplace design to raise working height would be necessary for a better working environment for broiler farmers.

Stonecutting and setting are important tasks in a construction site. A field study was conducted to assess occupational-related disorders and to conduct ergonomics assessment among stonecutters. The study focused on (a) the duration of work per day, (b) the working environment and working activities and (c) the feeling of discomfort in different parts of the body. A detailed posture analysis was performed with the Ovako working posture analysis system (OWAS). It was observed that stonecutters worked continuously in awkward postures during stonecutting and setting. Consequently, they suffered from discomfort in different parts of their body, specifically in the lower back, knees and shoulders, which mainly prevented them from continuing their work. This study also revealed that stonecutters had to work in congested work areas with a poor level of illumination. The noise level and dust particles emitted during stonecutting activities could affect stonecutters.

Postural disturbances may cause the worsening of cardiopulmonary function in cystic fibrosis children and adolescents, as well as adversely affect their somatic and psychological development. The aim: Evaluation of postural defects in the population of cystic fibrosis children and adolescents. Material and methods: Physical orthopedic examination of 41 cystic fibrosis patients (20 girls, 21 boys), aged 2-17 years (mean 8.1). The patients were divided into age groups: I under 5 y.o – 8 patients., II 5-9 y.o.− 6 patients, III 9-13 y.o – 11 patients, IV 13 y.o. and older – 16 patients. Postural disorders were divided into two groups. The first group included defects with a possible influence on the respiratory function of a cystic fibrosis patient: scoliosis, spine defects and chest deformities. The second group included lower extremities defects without influence on the function of the respiratory system. Results: Postural as well as chest disorders were observed in 36 (87.8%) of the patients who were examined. Disorders with possible influence on respiratory system function, were observed in 13 (31.7%) of the 41 patients. Increased thoracic kyphosis (round back) was most frequent. In the group of patients aged 5 years and younger neither spinal nor chest abnormalities were observed. In the group of patients aged 5-9 years 1 (16.6%) case of congenital scoliosis and 1 (16.6%) case of plane back were found. In the group of children aged 9-13 years increased thoracic kyphosis was observed in 2 (18.1%) cases, plane back was observed in 2 (18.1%) children as well, while in 1 (9.0%) case increased lumbar lordosis was diagnosed. Barrell chest was observed in 2 (18.1%) cases. In the group of adolescents aged 13 years and more, 4 (25.0%) cases of scoliosis, 16 (100%) cases of increased thoracic kyphosis and 6 (37.5%) cases of barrel chest were observed. Because of the different methods of examination among posture studies of the healthy population, obtaining a control population is difficult. Conclusions: The number of postural defects in children with cystic fibrosis increases with age, and is becoming a significant health problem. It seems that there is a need of a deeper study on a greater population.
Wady postawy mogą prowadzić do pogorszenia funkcji układu oddechowego oraz krążenia u dzieci i młodzieży z mukowiscydozą, a także zaburzać przebieg rozwoju somatycznego jak i psychicznego. Cel: Ocena wad postawy w populacji dzieci i młodzieży z mukowiscydozą. Materiał i metody: Badanie przedmiotowe ortopedyczne 41 pacjentów z mukowiscydozą (20 dziewcząt, 21 chłopców) w wieku 2-17 lat (średnio 8,1). Pacjentów podzielono na następujące grupy wiekowe: I poniżej 5. r.ż. – 8 pacjentów, II 5-9 r.ż. − 6 pacjentów, III 9-13 r.ż. – 11 pacjentów, IV 13 r.ż. i starsi – 16 pacjentów. Natomiast wady postawy podzielono na dwie grupy. Do pierwszej grupy zaliczono wady mające możliwy wpływ na funkcję układu oddechowego u pacjenta z mukowiscydozą: skoliozy, wady kręgosłupa i klatki piersiowej. Do drugiej grupy zaliczono wady kończyn dolnych, nie mające wpływu na funkcję układu oddechowego. Ze względu na fakt, że badania wad postawy u dzieci zdrowych prowadzone były przy użyciu różnych metod, trudno jest wyodrębnić grupę kontrolną. Wyniki: Nieprawidłowości postawy i klatki piersiowej stwierdzono u 36 (87,8%) pacjentów, którzy zostali poddani badaniu. Wady, mogące mieć wpływ na funkcję układu oddechowego wystąpiły u 13 (31,7%) z 41 pacjentów. Zwiększona kifoza piersiowa (plecy okrągłe) występowała najczęściej. W grupie poniżej 5. r.ż. nie stwierdzono odchyleń od normy w zakresie kręgosłupa ani klatki piersiowej. W grupie 5-9 lat stwierdzono 1 (16,6%) przypadek skoliozy wrodzonej oraz 1 (16,6%) przypadek pleców płaskich. W grupie dzieci w wieku 9-13 lat zwiększona kifoza piersiowa została stwierdzona u 2 (18,1%) dzieci, plecy płaskie również u 2 (18,1%), w 1 (9,0%) przypadku rozpoznano zwiększoną lordozę lędźwiową, klatka piersiowa beczkowata wystąpiła w 2 (18,1%) przypadkach. W grupie powyżej 13. r.ż. stwierdzono 4 (25%) przypadki skoliozy, 16 (100%) przypadków zwiększonej kifozy piersiowej oraz 6 (37,5%) przypadków klatki beczkowatej. Wnioski: Liczba wad postawy u dzieci i młodzieży z mukowiscydozą wzrasta wraz z wiekiem, stanowi więc znaczący problem zdrowotny. Wydaje się, iż konieczne jest przeprowadzenie pogłębionych badań na większym materiale.

The development of science and technology brings about many advantages for human beings, yet it also creates a risk for their health and correct growth, including problems with right posture among children. The fast pace of life, an increasing number of tasks in- and outside of school, lack of physical activity, bad dietary habits and permanent compression of vertebrae are the main factors responsible for posture problems among child and teenager groups. The ages between 7 and 10 seem to be a critical period for forming the body position and it is connected with changing children’s daily learning routine (from free and loose activity to a few-hour sitting position at school). In effect, about 60% of children suffer from postural problems. This percentage has a rising tendency as such problems increase with age. The prevention and treatment of consequent disorders is based e.g. on physical exercise during corrective gymnastic classes, where a number of new technology solutions to improve standard and quality of such classes are used, e.g. motion sensors (Microsoft Kinect). This articleconnects corrective exercises with motion-control-based computer games. This approach uses the natural interest of children for interactive games to improve their engagement in corrective exercises. This new form of health-related activity packed in a “computer driven case” is a real chance to make corrective exercises more children-friendly and thus to stimulate children’s motivation to actively participate in them.

Introduction and aim of the study: The body posture, which is one of the determinants of health and functional efficiency, changes depending on gender, age and psychophysical condition. Defining a pattern of correct posture is extremely difficult as it is a highly individualised feature. The aim of this paper was to compare the body posture of women in three periods of ontogenesis: girls in puberty, young adult women and women in the geriatric age. Material and methods: 150 women were examined: 50 12-year-old pupils, 50 20-22-year-old students and 50 women aged 60-84. Their height and weight were measured, BMI calculated and the status of body weight determined as normal, overweight or obese. The Zebris Pointer ultrasound system analyzed the position of the spine in the sagittal and frontal plane, the symmetry of the shoulders and pelvis in the frontal plane, and the balance of the torso in the sagittal and frontal plane. The results were developed with the Statistica programme. Basic descriptive statistics, multiplicity tables, Shapiro-Wilk test (study of normality of distribution) and Kruskal-Wallis test (inter-group comparison) were used. Differences between groups were assumed to be significant when p<0.05. Results: Age significantly differentiated the BMI index of the surveyed. Overweight and obesity was more prevalent in the oldest age group. The size of thoracic kyphosis expressed in degrees was similar in all the surveyed, although hypokyphosis was observed more frequently in the female pupils and hyperkyphosis in the female students. Lumbar lordosis was significantly higher in the students when compared to the other groups. Hypolordosis was most common in the seniors. The students and seniors also differed in terms of the balance of the torso in the sagittal plane. Excessive backward inclination was diagnosed in 42% of the students (total backward shift of the centre of gravity of the human body), which was twice as rare in the female students and four times as rare in the seniors. Asymmetric position of the right and left shoulder and hip girdles was common in every group of the women surveyed. Side bendings of the spine were most often observed in the female pupils, and least frequently in the seniors. Left-sided bendings were more frequent than right-sided ones. Conclusions: The age of women affects the position of the torso more in the sagittal plane than in the frontal one. The size of lumbar lordosis is an element of the body posture most significantly differentiating women between 12 and 84 years of age. Hyperlordosis is more characteristic of young adult women, whereas hypolordosis of seniors. Hyperkyphosis is most common in female students while hypokyphosis in adolescent girls.
Wstęp: Prawidłowa postawa ciała jest trudna do zdefiniowania. Zmienia się w zależności od płci, wieku oraz kondycji psychofizycznej. Zawsze jednak jest jednym z wyznaczników zdrowia i sprawności funkcjonalnej. Celem prezentowanej pracy było porównanie postawy ciała kobiet w trzech okresach ontogenezy: dziewcząt w okresie dojrzewania, młodych dorosłych kobiet oraz kobiet w wieku geriatrycznym. Materiał i metody: Obserwacją objęto 150 kobiet: 50 uczennic 12-letnich, 50 studentek w wieku 20-22 lat i 50 kobiet pomiędzy 60 i 84 rokiem życia. Zmierzono wysokość i masę ciała badanych, obliczono wskaźnik BMI i określono status masy ciała jako norma, nadwaga lub otyłość. Z wykorzystaniem ultradźwiękowego sytemu Zebris Pointer oszacowano wielkość kifozy piersiowej i lordozy lędźwiowej, symetrię ustawienia obręczy barkowej i biodrowej w płaszczyźnie czołowej, zrównoważenie tułowia w płaszczyźnie strzałkowej i czołowej oraz ustawienie kręgosłupa w płaszczyźnie czołowej. Wyniki podano w postaci danych ilorazowych i jakościowych. Do analizy zebranego materiału wykorzystano podstawowe statystyki opisowe, tabele liczności, test Shapiro-Wilka (badanie normalności rozkładu) oraz test Kruskala-Wallisa (porównanie międzygrupowe). Różnice pomiędzy grupami uznawano za istotne, gdy p<0,05. Wyniki: Częstość występowania nadwagi i otyłości zwiększała się z wiekiem. Badane nie różniły się znacząco wielkością kifozy piersiowej, chociaż spłycenie kifozy obserwowano częściej u uczennic a pogłębienie u studentek. Studentki miały istotnie większą lordozę lędźwiową w porównaniu do pozostałych grup. Spłycenie lordozy notowano najczęściej u seniorek. Studentki i seniorki różniły się także pod względem zrównoważenia tułowia w płaszczyźnie strzałkowej. Nadmierne pochylenie tułowia w tył diagnozowano u 42% uczennic, dwa raz rzadziej u studentek i cztery razy rzadziej u seniorek. Asymetria barków i miednicy była powszechna w każdej z grup wiekowych. Najwięcej wygięć bocznych kręgosłupa występowało u uczennic. Dominowały wygięcia lewostronne. Wnioski: Wady postawy ciała występują powszechnie u kobiet w każdym wieku. Najczęściej obserwuje się asymetryczne ustawienie barków i miednicy oraz pogłębienie kifozy piersiowej i lordozy lędźwiowej.

Photogrammetry is a method of measurement of a physical object by means of images. The term comprises registration of electromagnetic radiation in a wide range of wave lengths. Determination of location of a point in a three-dimensional space is the common principle for all methods. Photographs of the same point taken simultaneously from at least two locations constitute the basis of calculations. Photogrammetric methods used in medicine fall into two basic groups: evaluation of movement and assessment of changes on a surface. The presented principle of classification is very simplified. The real complexity of the idea is reflected by a great variety of measurement systems. So far, Moiré’s system assessing the shape of the back has gained greatest popularity in rehabilitation. Methods assessing movement are much less common due to the prices of the equipment, necessity to use large rooms and being time-consuming. Fortunately, there has lately been an improvement in this respect. Depending on the capturing method, information about structure or movement can be obtained. None of the devices using most modern measurement technologies is able to examine both kinds of data simultaneously. The advantage of all photogrammetric systems is a large amount of information obtained; their disadvantage is a difficulty of its interpretation. Usefulness of measurement equipment requires presence of a system of data interpretation as an integral part of this equipment. Progress in rehabilitation depends on one hand on technical features of measurement equipment and, on the other hand, on rehabilitation specialists who will be able to formulate their expectations towards systems of movement measurement being newly developed.
Fotogrametria jest pomiarem obiektu fizycznego przy pomocy obrazów. Pojęcie to obejmuje rejestrację promieniowania elektromagnetycznego w szerokim zakresie długości fal. Wspólna dla wszystkich metod jest zasada wyznaczania połoŜenia punktu w trójwymiarowej przestrzeni. Podstawą do obliczeń są zdjęcia tego samego punktu wykonane jednocześnie przynajmniej z dwóch różnych miejsc. Metody fotogrametryczne, stosowane w medycynie, możemy podzielić na dwie podstawowe grupy: do badania ruchu i do oceny zmian powierzchni. Przedstawiona zasada podziału jest bardzo duŜym uproszczeniem istoty badań fotogrametrycznych. O prawdziwej złoŜoności tematu świadczy wielka różnorodność systemów pomiarowych. Do tej pory największą popularność w rehabilitacji zdobyła metoda mory, oceniająca kształt pleców. Metody oceniające ruch są znacznie mniej popularne, ze względu na cenę urządzeń, potrzebę wykorzystywania dużych pomieszczeń i czasochłonność pomiarów. Na szczęście, także i pod tym względem zachodzą korzystne zmiany. W zależności od sposobu patrzenia uzyskujemy informacje o strukturze lub o ruchu. żadne urządzenie stosujące najnowsze technologie pomiarowe nie jest w stanie zbadać całości. Zaletą wszystkich systemów fotogrametrycznych jest duŜa ilość dostarczanych informacji, wadą – trudność w ich interpretacji. żeby system pomiarowy był uŜyteczny, jego integralną częścią powinien być system interpretacji wyników badań. Postęp w rehabilitacji zależy z jednej strony od technicznych możliwości urządzeń pomiarowych, z drugiej strony od specjalistów rehabilitacji, którzy będą potrafili formułować oczekiwania wobec nowo rozwijanych systemów pomiarowych układu ruchu

The aim of the following work is to evaluate faulty posture rate among kindergarten children. The following article describes the objective and the character of the promotional and prophylactic program conducted by the Wrocław City Council (Urząd Miasta Wrocławia) concerning the “Keep straight” (“Trzymaj się prosto”) campaign. The program includes youth between age of seven and seventeen in whom slight symptoms of faulty posture, concerning lower limbs and the spine, were revealed during examination. The only prophylactic activity assumed by the “Keep it straight” campaign are corrective exercises in gymnasium and swimming pool. The screening of the children and youth also allows introductional diagnostics and recognition of permanent faults and direction of the patients to specialist treatment in orthopedic and rehabilitation clinics. The screening was conducted on the verge of October and November 2007. A physical posture examination method was used to evaluate the faults that appeared. The children from five of Wrocław`s kindergartens were examined. The following work presents the symptomatology of the most frequent faults and highlights the necessity of conducting prophylactic activity at a very young age. The faulty posture is a serious diagnostic and therapeutic problem among young children and can be a source of severe health problems in their future. 373 children were examined. Faulty posture was revealed among 295 what represents 79,08% of the patients; 78 were described as healthy (20,92%). There were 160 boys (80,8%) and 135 girls (77,14%) in the group with faulty posture. There were 38 (19,2%) boys without faulty posture and 40 (22,86%) girls in the same group.

The neck posture of sauropod dinosaurs has long been controversial. Recent reconstructions position the cervical vertebrae and skull in an “osteological neutral pose” (ONP), the best fit arrived at by articulating the vertebrae with the zygapophyses in maximum contact. This approach in isolation suggests that most or all sauropods held their necks horizontally. However, a substantial literature on extant amniotes (mammals, turtles, squamates, crocodilians and birds) shows that living animals do not habitually maintain their necks in ONP. Instead, the neck is maximally extended and the head is maximally flexed, so that the mid−cervical region is near vertical. Unless sauropods behaved differently from all extant amniote groups, they must have habitually held their necks extended and their heads flexed. The life orientation of the heads of sauropods has been inferred from the inclination of the semi−circular canals. However, extant animals show wide variation in inclination of the “horizontal” semi−circular canal: the orientation of this structure is not tightly constrained and can give only a general idea of the life posture of extinct animals’ heads.

The aim of the research was to assess influence of a 90-minute specialist fencing training on selected features of the spine and pelvis under a vertical load in a group of young competitors. The research was carried out in 2015 among 23 fencers (mean ± SD, age: 16 ±1.20 years; body height: 168.4 ±4.68 cm; body weight: 54.7 ±8.26 kg). The method involved measurement of thirty features, describing spatially pelvis and physiological spinal curvature under a vertical load, constituting 1/3 of the body weight before and after specialist training. Statistically significant disturbances in vertically overstretched posture occurred after the training among examined boys within the following features: increase in length of left side scoliosis, progression of lumbar lordosis and lumbosacral spine, increase of the trunk extension angle and shoulder asymmetry. Among examined girls statistically significant changes occurred only within pelvis area: increase of left pelvic tilt in the coronal plane, decrease of right pelvic tilt in the horizontal plane. Adjustment in deficiencies within hip joints movement, increase pelvis and lower limbs muscle strength in girls’ training is necessary. What is recommended for all competitors is prophylaxis of the spinal pain syndrome and expanding endurance shaping exercises during a training unit.

Introduction. Year after year, we spend an increasing amount of time in a sitting position. Often, we sit with poor posture, as indicated by numerous pain syndromes within the musculoskeletal system. Several reports confirm that body posture and the amount of time spent in a seated position have extensive implications for our health. Previous studies and a literature review suggest there is limited knowledge regarding an ergonomic sitting position. Objective. The aim of the study was to analyze the research relating to a proper sitting position and the consequences of incorrect sitting posture. A database search was conducted in Science Direct, Scopus, PubMed, Medline, and Google Scholar. Selection was made on the basis of titles, then abstracts and full texts of the studies. No limits were applied to the date of publication. Conclusions. Incorrect sitting posture contributes to many disorders, especially in the cervical and lumbar spine. It also determines the work of the respiratory system. Most authors suggest that maintenance of the physiological curvature of the spine is crucial for the biomechanics of the sitting position, as well as the location of the head and position of the pelvis. It raises awareness of work-related hazards and the introduction of education on the principles of proper seating. It is necessary to draw attention to the risks associated with work performed in a sitting posture, and education on the principles of ergonomical sitting.

Overexertion and pain of the musculoskeletal system may occur partly owing to load application by the equipment. Both the weight of equipment and the duration of loading are relevant. The aim of the present study was to examine the extent of loading and resultant strain in the trunk muscles. Therefore, the trunk posture of soldiers and muscular activity in reaction to different equipment components (helmet, load-carrying equipment, gun and backpack) were evaluated. Electromyography was performed and a visual assessment of body axis was conducted based on standardised planar images. Data indicate that the activity of the trunk muscles examined (latissimus dorsi, trapezius and pectoralis major) is dependent on the weight and distribution of the equipment components. Activity in the trapezius muscle, for instance, was doubled during specific load application. Moreover, the method of carrying the rifle had a significant influence on the activity of the trapezius muscle (one-sided decrease of activity by 50%). Subjects were able to stabilise the body axis in the coronal plane through increased muscle activity, however, in the sagittal plane a compensatory ventral inclination of the body was observed. Uneven load distribution can lead to an irregular strain on the musculoskeletal system.

Wstęp. Obserwowany na świecie wzrost zachorowania na choroby cywilizacyjne dotyczy w dużym stopniu również dzieci. Cel pracy. Ocena sytuacji zdrowotnej dzieci uczęszczających do trzech pierwszych klas szkół podstawowych we Wrocławiu. Materiał i metody. Badaniem objęto 1984 dzieci (97,92%) – 934 chłopców (47%) i 1050 dziewczynek (53%), w wieku 6,5–9,5 lat z 26 wybranych losowo publicznych szkół we Wrocławiu. Badania przeprowadzano w latach 2009–2011. Rozdano 4000 ankiet, w których pytano rodziców o przebyte i aktualne choroby oraz wady rozwojowe. Wyniki. Zespoły genetycznie uwarunkowane były rozpoznane u 15 (0,75%), wady układu moczowego – u 24 (1,2%), serca – u 9 (0,45%), przewodu pokarmowego – u 24 (1,2%), wady wzroku – u 236 (11,8%), choroby alergiczne – u 597 (30,1%), astma oskrzelowa – u 33 (1,51%) badanych. Z powodu chorób endokrynologicznych leczonych jest 15 (0,75%) dzieci. U 66/934 (7,06%) chłopców rozpoznano wady układu moczopłciowego. U 402 (20,2%) dzieci rozpoznano wadę postawy,z czego u 20 (1%) wady były utrwalone. Wnioski. Opieka pediatryczna w szkołach jest niezadowalająca. Najważniejszymi problemami zdrowotnymi u dzieci klas I–III są choroby alergiczne oraz wady postawy, na co wpływ mogą mieć czynniki środowiskowe. W celu poprawy stanu zdrowia dzieci konieczna jest edukacja prozdrowotna dzieci, a szczególnie rodziców
Background. Increase in civilization diseases prevalence has also been noticeable in children worldwide. Objectives. The aim of this study was to assess the health situation of Wroclaw’s children during the first three years of school education. Material and methods. The study included 1984 children (97.92%), 934 boys (47%) and 1050 girls (53%), who were attending 26 randomly selected public schools in Wrocław. The study was conducted in 2009–2011. 4000 questionnaires on past and current chronic diseases as well as developmental disturbances were given to legal guardians of children taking part in the project. Results. Genetic disorders and syndromes were present in 15 (0.75%) children, malformations of urinary system in 24 (1.2%), heart defects in 9 (0.45%), digestive system disease in 24 (1.2%), vision defects in 236 (11.8%), allergy in 597 (30.1%) and asthma in 33 (1.51%) participants. 15 (0.75%) children were treated due to endocrinological diseases. In 66/934 (7.06%) boys genital organs malformations were diagnosed. Stature defect was diagnosed in 402 (20.2%) examined, including 20 (1%) with fixed defects. Conclusions. Pediatric care provided in school is unsatisfactory. Allergy and stature defects dominated among all found disorders that could result from environmental factors. Effective education of healthy lifestyle should help to improve health status of school children.

Podejście do problemu skolioz jest wielce zróżnicowane i zależy przede wszystkim od zainteresowań autorów zajmujących się tą problematyką. Przeważają prace dotyczące epidemiologii i etiopatogenezy skolioz oraz biomechanicznych aspektów problemu. W literaturze przedmiotu skolioza traktowana jest przeważnie jako statyczny problem lokalny, dotyczący samego kręgosłupa, natomiast szerzej widziane skutki posturalne są zwykle traktowane marginalnie, lub wręcz pomijane. Do bardzo rzadkich należą też prace poruszające neuropatologiczne aspekty dotyczące zaburzeń regulacji przestrzennego układu ciała w rozwijających się skoliozach. Takie postrzeganie skoliozy powoduje, że zachowawcze leczenie nawet niskostopniowej skoliozy na ogół skazane bywa na niepowodzenie. Celem pracy było przybliżenie fijologicznych i patofijologicznych podstaw terapii skolioz w ujęciu odmiennym od najczęściej prezentowanego w piśmiennictwie. W tej części pracy przedstawiono najpierw system sterowania postawą ciała oraz rozwojowe aspekty tego zagadnienia w warunkach fijologicznych i patologicznych. Następnie przedstawiono skutki posturalne rozwijającej się i już rozwiniętej skoliozy. Zwrócono uwagę na skutki samoistnej kompensacji i tworzący się nawyk nieprawidłowej postawy i „przeprogramowanie” systemu sterowania postawą, czyniące próby aktywnej korekcji nieskutecznymi, a także na potrzebę wczesnej interwencji zmierzającej m.in. do tego, by nie utrwalił się nawyk nieprawidłowej postawy. Zwrócono uwagę na to, że tworzące i rozwijające się skoliozy na ogół nie przynoszą ze sobą uchwytnych dolegliwości, a poważniejsze ogólne skutki zdrowotne przeważnie ujawniają się dopiero u osób dorosłych, pod postacią zespołów bólowych kręgosłupa, problemów ginekologicznych u kobiet, zaburzeń oddychania i krążenia związanych z deformacjami klatki piersiowej, obniżenia ogólnej wydolności.
The approach to the problem of scoliosis is very diffrent and depends primarily on the interests of authors dealing with the issue. In the literature, scoliosis is treated mostly as a static and local problem with the spine and widely seen postural effcts are usually considered marginal, or even ignored. The papers describing a neuropathological aspects about disorders of spatial regulation of the body in the developing scoliosis are very rare too. Such a perception of scoliosis causes that conservative treatment of even low degree scoliosis usually is doomed to fail. The aim of this study was to present physiological and pathophysiological basis of scoliosis therapy in terms diffrent from most commonly presented in the literature. In this part of paper posture steering (control) system and developmental aspects of the problem in terms of physiological and pathological was fist presented. Then the postural effcts of growing and already developed scoliosis was presented. Attention is paid to effcts of spontaneous compensation and forming the habit of improper posture. “Reprogramming” the system of postural control, making active attempts of correction ineffctive and the need for early intervention leading to, among others, not to preserve the habit of improper posture was discussed as well. In the last section of this paper, attention was drawn to the fact that creating and developing scoliosis usually do not bring with them noticeable complaints, and serious health effcts usually become apparent only after many years, in adults life, as a back pain syndrome, gynecological problems in woman, respiratory and cardiovascular problems related to deformities of the chest or reduction in effiency etc.

Expansive body posture is the most commonly studied and widely described in psychological literature. For many years, expansive posture was universally identified as a pose of power, but more recent research has revealed that the link between expansive posture and power may be moderated by gender, culture or even contextual cues. Our findings show that with little variation added to expansive posture it does not necessarily lead to the sense of power, and may actually trigger the opposite effect: a feeling of submissiveness. In three studies, persons assuming their body in a standing-at-attention posture were perceived as being more obedient (Experiment 1), thus participants who expanded their body in a standing-at-attention manner (although actually doing a non-obedient unrelated task) displayed greater compliance to requests (Experiment 2) and declared greater submissiveness toward social norms (Experiment 3). We discuss how the cultural and interpersonal context imprinted in specific body posture can modify the feedback of innate and universal body states.

The aim of the paper was to evaluate a sportsperson’s body posture regarding spine position, foot arch as well as distribution of contact force on the ground of a champion training Ju-jitsu (a case study). A study of somatic characteristics has been carried out, namely height, body weight, length and width of feet and the area of foot sole. The level of longitudinal and transverse foot arch and balance of both feet has also been taken into account. The study of somatic characteristics and feet assessment have been carried out by the authors of the paper. In order to assess the level of somatic characteristics (height, body weight and BMI index) and the area of feet and the level of foot arch, own research results have been compared with Lizis’ results. DIERS Formetic III 4D system, which enables to analyse body posture, namely spine and pelvis, in a non-invasive manner that is safe both to patients and medical personnel, has been used to assess spine and body posture. The results are very accurate and thanks to rapid image transmission to computer software, data analysis has been carried out immediately after test performance.
