Opis:
The subject of this paper is the archaeologically created past, seen as a reservoir of pleasure. The topic is discussed in comparison with changes of the contemporary man’s approach to the past. The organising motif of my reflections is the category of pleasure and different ways of pursuing it by people, mainly by means of broadly understood play. I propose here two theses, namely: (1) in the contemporary world the past, being a point of reference for archaeological investigation, may constitute a source of pleasure or inspiration to search for pleasure; (2) the ways of presenting the past to a certain degree have been subjugated by the rules that have been reserved for the domains of entertainment and consumption. This paper will relate to: (1) the pleasure of exploring of the past; (2) the pleasure of re-enacting and performing the past, and (3) the pleasure of playing with the past during archaeological fêtes.

Arguments about history (as like as politics) is certainly not newfangled or unexpected. The competing visions of the past (winners and losers) are not, however, just a dispute over what and how it happened. On the contrary, it is not diffi cult to see that they infl uence not only upon the domination of the “piloted” vision of the past, but also on a particular social/political order. Th erefore in this article I try to show some risk behind the mythologization and politicization of the historical discourse.

In the article an attempt has been made to conceptualise the presence and range of the functioning of the products of archaeological knowledge, indirectly also archaeology, in social space in modern Poland, in the context of broader transformations of modern man’s attitude towards the past. The ambition of the author has been to formulate certain regularities, observable in the processes of making prehistoric past present in modern times and to formulate specific developmental trends in this respect. The article describes the basic strategies of manifesting archaeological past, and shaping their trends, namely sensational attitude towards archaeological discoveries, reconstructionism, dramatisation of the past and its festivalisation. It also discusses the characteristic elements of the aforementioned trends, which create the specifics of the modern man’s approach towards the past, including the prehistoric past.

W swojej najnowszej powieści Modiano po raz kolejny zaprasza do labiryntu, w którym teraźniejszość przeplata się zprzeszłością. Tym razem główna bohaterka, La Petite Bijou, stara się odkryć przeszłość matki, zaginionej przed dwunastu laty w Maroku. Pewnego dnia przypadkowo spotyka na stacji paryskiego metra tajemniczą kobietę, która przypomina jej matkę. Czy jest to jednak Suzanne Cardères, znana też jako księżna Sonia O'Dauyé? Poszukiwania nie będą łatwe, gdyż jedyne pamiątki po matce to: stary portret, adres hotelu i zapiski zwizyty u wróżki. Jeśli nie liczyć wspomnień, których nie sposób wyrzucić z pamięci. Utracona tożsamość okazuje się jedynie pretekstem, aby powrócić, choćby na moment, wciemne zaułki przeszłości, gdzie na każdym rogu czyhają zdarzenia, od których nie sposób się uwolnić, lub osoby, które warto ocalić od zapomnienia. A jednak bohaterowie nie wahają się w nie zagłębić, gdyż każda wędrówka wywołuje na krótki moment uczucie nieuchwytnej nostalgii. Postaci, wydarzenia, okruchy codzienności powracają w sposób niemalże obsesyjny, jak gdyby pisarz nie chciał czy też nie potrafił się od nich uwolnić. Tak jak Georges Perec, Modiano tworzy coś w rodzaju zapisków z przeszłości, wplatając w intrygę melodię, którą wszyscy nucili, slogan, aktora, wyrażenie, gest, część garderoby czy też jeszcze coś bardziej ulotnego. Sam przyznaje, iż prześladuje go wrażenie, że od trzydziestu lat pisze wciąż tę samą historię, do której co dwa lata dodaje kolejny odcinek. Tymczasem słynne flou modianien, czyli wrażenie zanurzenia w nieuchwytnej nostalgii za przeszłością, nieprzerwanie fascynuje poszukiwaczy utraconego czasu, uwikłanych w magiczną grę wspomnień.

For Primate Stefan Wyszyński, the past of the nation was an important element creating the identity of the nation, on whose behaviour its future depended. Maintaining the memory of the history of the nation, which, in the primate’s thought, was constituted when Mieszko I was baptised in 966, was one of the priorities of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński’s teaching. For this reason, it was also a part of the world-view dispute between the Primate and the communist authorities of postwar Poland, whose aim was to erase many pages of history from national memory or to give them a different meaning as a condition for creating a „new” society based on the Soviet model. In the evaluation of the past, falsified in the People’s Republic of Poland, the Primate used „his own domestic and national sense” and „proper evaluation of the spirit”. The theological perspective allowed the Primate to look at the painful and tragic pages of history, including the lost national uprisings, as a sacrifice modelled on the sacrifice of Christ, necessary for the resurrection of Poland. According to Primate Wyszyński, the history of the nation was a reservoir of values, co-shaped by faith and the Church, from which future generations could draw in the struggle to regain independence in 1918 and regain sovereignty.

The presented paper briefly delimitates the main ideas of Levinas' criticism of Husserl ́s concept of time. According to Levinas, time in Husserl ́s comprehension is something like a product of the consciousness. In the consciousness is the time becoming a remembrance (remémorable) and then it is recaptured (récupérable) through the retention and protention or anticipation in present. Levinas believes that time is structured in completely different way; basically it is unreachable and untouchable as it is not an achievement of being (conatus essendi) but it is the transcendence of oneself, one ́s spacing, distance from being. It is not simply as the subject is experiencing time but it is more as the subject, a continuance of time and it flows in the stream of time. Subject as is understood by Levinas is the one who interfere the course of the time, “the possibility of new beginnings”.

The article attempts at capturing a linguistic image of the past in A. Asnyk’s texts and presenting symbolic relations between the abstract meaning and the attributes ascribed to it. The author analyzed not only the metaphors containing the lexeme past but also any synonymic notions, periphrases, phrases and terms referring to olden days. On this basis, several models of the past have been distinguished (the past is a living creature, the past is a plant, the past are different kinds of objects and containers, the past is a natural element, the past is nothingness, death and destruction, the past is a memory, the past is a herald of the future) under the condition that the applied divisions are therefore relative due to elusiveness of the described phenomenon. In reality, the past is never perceived, and therefore it cannot be conceptualized univocally.

Popular culture, now being a medium of social dialogue, has stopped being perceived as a register of “lower” existential experiences, and its creations became the testament not of a cultural degradation, but of creativity of its authors, who seek fiction clichés which offer a new look at the deeply rooted social phenomena. Thus, if it is done with inertia and awkwardness typical for the subject, its potential of “explaining the world” should not be underestimated.

Corpora provide teachers and materials developers with the ability to ensure that the instructions they use in class and in teaching materials correctly reflect natural use. This paper examines the ways in which grammar reference books and two types of EFL/ESL materials present the past perfect aspect and whether they do so accurately. It will be argued that there are several issues concerning how these books present the grammar point. Many of the books surveyed provide incomplete explanations of when and how the form is used and several contain usage guidelines that are not supported by available corpus data. The paper ends with several recommendations to improve how the form is presented to teachers and learners.

The author attempts to describe the aesthetic experiences of the past lived by the protagonist of Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz’s The Wilko Girls, and answer the question about the possibility of repetition. Elaborating on the arguments proposed by Friedrich Nietzsche in The Gay Science and by Søren Kierkegaard in Repetition, the author proves that even with a favourable attitude to one’s own past, an attempt to repeat past experiences is impossible. Nothing can be experienced again. The past is closed. The possibility of only partial access to it is created by human sensuality referring to the notion of aisthesis, which is the source of aesthetic experience. The senses stimulated by various sounds, smells, tastes, images, and the accompanying memories and emotions, constitute a vast spectrum of aesthetic experiences, making the experience of the past an existential experience of time.

Two opposing views exist on the structure of the mental lexicon and the usage of the regular and irregular inflection. According to the first one, all inflected forms are stored in the lexicon (Seidenberg/Joanisse 2005). The opposing view (Pinker/Ullman 2002) holds that regular forms are inflected by the application of morphological rules. Longitudinal data from four children are examined in the present study. The children were first exposed to German as their second language in the early childhood. The predictions of both models of the mental lexicon are investigated in the collected data. The results show that the use of past participles by children acquiring German as their early second language can provide some insights into the structure of the mental lexicon. However, the effect of age at which learners are first exposed to their second language has to be taken into account.

The ”vortex in cell” method was used to model the flow past a solid body. Problems connected with flows past a body belong to the category of exterior problems. The main difficulty here is to establish the boundary condition far from the body, to solve equations of motion on the numerical mesh. The mesh requires a limited calculation area and the boundary condition far from the body. A method of obtaining the accurate boundary condition in such flows was presented. Testing calculations were performed for the flow past a cylinder for a wide range of Reynolds numbers. The flow past an ellipse was also performed. A good agreement with experimental results and calculations of other researchers was obtained.
Do obliczeń zastosowano metodę cząstek wirowych typu „wir w komórce”. Rzeczywisty obszar przepływu transformowano używając odwzorowania konforemnego. Opisano sposób wyznaczania zewnętrznego warunku brzegowego daleko od ciała, wykorzystując asymptotyczne własności rozwiązania równania Laplace’a. Wyniki numeryczne przedstawiono dla opływu walca w szerokim przedziale liczb Reynoldsa (550 < Re > 9500) oraz cienkiej elipsy. Obliczenia porównano z danymi eksperymentalnymi i wynikami numerycznymi innych badaczy, uzyskując bardzo dobrą zgodność.
