    In this essay, we utilized the following scales: Mobile and Internet Addiction Test, Basic Psychological Needs Scale, Negative Coping Style Questionnaire, and Interpersonal Relationships Assessment Scale. With those, we surveyed 1,730 college students, investigating the influence of mobile phone addiction on their interpersonal relationship distress and the mediating chain effect of basic psychological needs and negative coping styles on mobile phone addiction and interpersonal relationship distress. The results indicate that: (1) Mobile phone addiction can predict interpersonal relationship distress in college students; (2) Basic psychological needs serve as the mediating variables between mobile phone addiction and interpersonal relationship distress; (3) Negative coping styles prove to be the mediator between mobile phone addiction and interpersonal relationship distress; and (4) Basic psychological needs and negative coping styles establish a mediating chain effect between mobile phone addiction and interpersonal relationship distress.

    W artykule przedstawione zostało zjawisko nadmiernego korzystania z telefonu komórkowego, określanego jako fonoholizm. Autor skoncentrował się głównie na problematyce związanej z możliwością uzależnienia się od tego urządzenia. Przedstawił objawy fonoholizmu oraz negatywne konsekwencje dla zdrowia i rozwoju psychospołecznego młodzieży szkolnej w kontekście zachowań ryzykownych. Podkreślona została również potrzeba wyodrębnienia kryteriów diagnostycznych fonoholizmu. W artykule autor wskazał także na rolę rodziny oraz szkoły w przeciwdziałaniu temu zjawisku.
    The article presents the phenomenon of excessive use of mobile phones,that takes the form of a new cyber addiction, termed phonyholism.. The author focused primarily on the problem of the possibility of becoming addicted to this device. He presented symptoms of phonoholism and negative consequences for the health and psychosocial development of school youth in the context of risky behavior. It also emphasized the need to distinguish diagnostic criteria from phonoholism. In the article the author also pointed out the role of family and school in counteracting this phenomenon.

    W artykule zostały zawarte treści dotyczące uzależnienia od telefonu komórkowego. Potraktowano je jako nowy problem społeczny i wyzwanie edukacyjne. W pierwszej części przybliżono krótką historię powstania telefonii komórkowej oraz przedstawiono przyczyny, dla których ludzie kupują telefony komórkowe. Zdefiniowano, czym jest uzależnienie infoholiczne oraz zwrócono uwagę na jego etiologię. Ukazano typowe cechy zachowania osoby uzależnionej psychicznie oraz rodzaje uzależnień od telefonu. W drugiej części zaprezentowano wyniki zarówno badań polskich, jak i zagranicznych odnośnie omawianego problemu (ujęcie statystyczne). W trzeciej części podjęto zagadnienie konsekwencji, skutków, jakie niesie za sobą cyberuzależnienie. Na końcu artykułu podkreślono konieczność prowadzenia profilaktyki uzależnień oraz zadania stojące przed edukacją, a służące bezpieczeństwu użytkowników urządzeń cyfrowych.
    The article concerns a problem of mobile phone addiction. It has been treated as a new social problem and an educational challenge. The first part presents a short history of mobile phones and indicates reasons for purchasing and using these communication devices. It has also been defined what information ad-diction is, drawing attention to the etiology. This part also shows the typical features of a men-tally-addicted person’s behaviour and the types of mobile phone addiction. The second part discusses the results of Polish and foreign research related to the above-mentioned problem (a statistical approach), while the third part deals with the consequences and effects of cyber addiction. At the end of the article the author highlights the need for the prevention of the addiction and the challenges facing education, leading to the safety of users of digital devices.

    The aim of the contribution was to map the degree of smartphone addiction in adolescents by means of The Smartphone Addiction Scale (SAS-SV) short version designed by Kwon et al. (2013). The construct validity of the research tool was established by exploratory factor analysis. A unidimentional solution appeared suitable to work with. The internal consistency of the scale was determined by Cronbach’s alpha (0.831). 519 respondents aged 12 to 25 years (AM = 19.41; SD = 3.83) participated in the research. A statistically significant difference was confirmed in the degree of adolescents’ smartphone addiction by gender in favour of women, and by age, at which respondents got their first smartphones, in favour of those who got their smartphone at a younger age. The effect size of differences was weak. No statistically significant difference showed in the degree of smartphone addiction by school type attended by adolescents.

    The mobile phone has become an inseparable ‘life partner’ and a reason of appearance of new forms of people’s behaviour, as well as new means of communication, which influence social life. Undoubtedly, benefits related to possessing and using a mobile phone are significant, however, it is crucial to remember about threats which result from inappropriate usage of mobile phones, especially by children and the youth. The article focuses on excessive usage of mobile phones and their influence on a young man. The matter of the analysis are interpretations of the definition of addiction and the mobile phone is indicated as a source of mental addiction. Kinds of mobile phone addiction are characterised, as well as typical behaviour features of an addicted person. The article is an attempt of presenting results of an inappropriate usage of mobile phones, phonoholism, by children and the youth, as well as adult people. In its final part the article presents cogitations of a schoolgirl upon the phenomenon of phonoholism and its influence on a young man.
    Telefon komórkowy stał się nieodłącznym „towarzyszem życia” oraz przyczyną pojawienia się nowych form zachowań ludzi oraz nowych sposobów komunikowania się mających wpływ na życie społeczne. Nie ulega wątpliwości, że korzyści płynące z posiadania i używania telefonu komórkowego są bardzo duże, ale należy również pamiętać o zagrożeniach, które wynikają z faktu niewłaściwego posługiwania się tym urządzeniem, zwłaszcza przez dzieci i młodzież. W publikacji skoncentrowano się na nadmiernym korzystaniu z telefonów komórkowych oraz ich wpływie na młodego człowieka. Poddano analizie interpretacje definicji uzależnienia oraz wskazano na telefon komórkowy jako źródło uzależnienia psychicznego. Ukazano rodzaje uzależnień od telefonu oraz typowe cechy zachowania osoby uzależnionej. Artykuł stanowi próbę zasygnalizowania skutków niewłaściwego korzystania z telefonów komórkowych (fonoholizmu) przez dzieci i młodzież oraz osoby dorosłe. W końcowej części artykułu przedstawiono refleksję uczennicy na temat fonoholizmu i jego wpływu na młodego człowieka.

    We współczesnych czasach obserwujemy dynamiczny rozwój społeczeństwa informacyjnego oraz rosnące zapotrzebowanie na coraz lepszą jakość usług i produktów ICT. Młodzież coraz częściej wykorzystuje nowoczesne środki komunikacji (komputery, laptopy, tablety i telefony komórkowe z dostępem do Internetu) w życiu codziennym. Głównym celem przeprowadzonych badań było poznanie stanu posiadania i wykorzystywania nowoczesnych środków komunikacji przez śląską młodzież, a także zbadanie, czy śląscy uczniowie szkół ponadgimnazjalnych są zagrożeni uzależnieniem od Internetu i telefonów komórkowych. W badaniach zastosowano test autorstwa K. Young – Internet Addaction Test (IAT) i kwestio-nariusz do Badania Uzależnienia od Telefonu Komórkowego (KBUTK) autorstwa E. Potembskiej i B. Pawłowskiej.
    We are seeing rapid development of the information society and the growing demand for more and better quality of ICT products and services. Young people are increasingly using modern means of communication (computers, laptops and mobile phones with Internet access) in their everyday life. The main objective of the study was to investigate the possession and use of modern means of communication by the Silesian youths and to investigate whether the pupils of secondary schools in Silesia are at risk of addiction to the Internet and mobile phones. The studies used: test by K. Young – Internet Addaction Test (IAT) and Addiction to Mobile Phone Questionnaire (AMPQ) by E. Potembska and B. Pawłowska.

    Research objectives: Adolescence is one of the most difficult developmental periods. Studies have documented ill-being among adolescents (Chen & Lucock, 2022; Alimoradi et al., 2022; Lakkunarajah et al., 2022; Li et al., 2022). Furthermore, compared to adults, adolescents are vulnerable to smartphone addiction (Kwon et al., 2013). The aim of the present study was to investigate the extent to which mobile phone use bears the hallmarks of excessive smartphone addiction or so-called phonoholism (Barabsa, 2018). Research methods: The Polish version of the Mobile Phone Problem Use Scale for Adolescents (MPPUSA) was used (Krzyżak-Szymańska; 2018). A total of 684 adolescents aged between 12 and 18 years took part in the study. They were students from three schools – one primary and two secondary schools (a high school + technical school and a technical school + vocational school). The surveys are representative of these institutions. A short description of the context: As the scale has more than nine different cultural adaptations, the Polish data can be related to current global trends. Research findings: The results show that 14% of Polish adolescents are at risk and 3% use mobile phones problematically. Statistically significant relationships were found between the variable describing phone use among adolescents and both gender and type of school. Conclusions and/or recommendations: The MPPUSA only partially meets the needs of pedagogical diagnosis. There is little evidence from adolescents or data relating to students’ perspectives on phonoholism. The school pedagogue or class teacher should ask specific, multidimensional questions when diagnosing the problem. They should also use the clues from this preliminary diagnosis of the phenomenon in everyday school life concerning internet use.
