Church’s liturgical life is marked out by agendas and song books (hymnals), which shape the worship practice, church members’ spirituality and piety forms. An important part of this process is also the confession practice, consisting in confessing sins and absolution, and specified by the liturgical formulas. In the 20th century Polish Lutheranism shaped its confession practice through three main sets of agendas and song books. First of them was the 1889 agenda, supplemented by a hymnal from 1899. After the 2nd World War the confession practice was determined by the 1955 agenda and 1956 song book, replaced in 1965 with the new edition. Last stage of shaping the liturgical practice was publishing the agenda in 1995, and a song book (2002). Source analysis has shown that confession was present through general confession formulas, which were above all a preparation for the Holy Communion, and partly by Confiteor – a liturgical penance act and confession of sins.

The issues addressed in the title of the work have been exemplified with Jan Simonides’s travelogue Incarceratio, liberatio et peregrination. The text is an exemplar of the dramatic experience of Slovak Protestants in 1674-1675, following by their liberation and forced emigration lasting till 1682. Unfortunately, the original text by Simionides from 1676 has been not maintained. It was edited down by Josef Minarik from eighteenth-century copies as Imprisonment, liberation and peregrination of Jan Simonides and his comrade Tobias Masnik. Referring to the epoch documents, letters, notes and authentic surnames and taking into account the chronicle requirements – strict dating and narrative time division according to the sequence of events, Simonides gives a recipient a sense of authenticity. He is not blind to his own confession but he is interested in dissimilarities. Although he most often uses a collective subject, paradoxically, he gives a recipient his individual experience.

According to the law of the Church, contained mainly in the Code of Canon Law, priests are entitled to certain rights and obligations arising from their Holy Orders. Some of them require also appropriate faculties in addition to the orders. This is the case in relation to the sacrament of penance and reconciliation. This so-called faculty is required in order to exercise this sacrament validly. The of such faculty causes the incurrence of ecclesiastical penalty of suspension latae sententiae. This text examines the norms of the Codex regarding the conferment of the faculty to administer the sacrament of penance, its use and the ecclesiastical penalties incurred for hearing confessions without such faculties.

In the sacrament of penance and reconciliation the faithful who confess their sins to a legitimate minister, are sorry for them, and intend to reform themselves to obtain forgiveness for the sins they have committed after baptism. Moreover, they are reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by sinning. Individual and integral confession as well as absolution constitute the only ordinary means of reconciliation with God and the Church. Therefore, only physical or moral impossibility excuses from confession of this type. In such a case reconciliation can be obtained by other means defined by law. The extraordinary means of reconciliation with God and the Church is general absolution to many penitents at once without previous individual confession. It can be imparted if danger of death is imminent, if there is insufficient time for the priest or priests to hear the confessions of individual penitents and there is grave necessity. It belongs to the diocesan bishop after agreeing upon with the other members of the conference of bishops to judge whether the conditions required to arise grave necessity are present. For the faithful validly to receive general absolution given to many at one time, it is required that the person is properly disposed and intends to confess within a suitable period of time each grave sin which at the present time cannot be so confessed.

The ecumenical movement stressed the need for social commitment from the very beginning. In the last decade, this has been reflected in the harsh criticism of the capitalist social order. The article discusses selected critical ecumenical interpretations of capitalism: the Accra Confession by the World Communion of Reformed Churches (2004), the economy of life programme by the World Council of Churches, and the ecumenical project of radicalizing Reformation (2014). It aims to demonstrate convergences in the theological and philosophical assumptions of the approaches discussed. It also asks the question about the similarities between the presented ecumenical reflections and the teaching of Pope Francis.

The story Confession occupies a special place in M. Gorky’s creation. It was conceived and written during a period in which he of searched for God. According to the writer’s plan, the work tells us of a person who walks in holy places, lives in monasteries and searches for God. In reference to the plot of Confession, it is worth noting that it was based on real sources, including the life of Gorky himself. In a way, the narrative was the result of the philosophical and artistic inquiries of the writer at the turn of the century.

The aim of the study is to comprise in one work the cyclicality and ethnic and religious continuity of the Petroşani Depression between 1850-2011. In the second half of the 19th century, the depression was subjected to cycles of colonization that had consequences for the ethnic and religious structure. The ethnic and religious continuity was preserved throughout this period, even though after 1930, some of the settlers remigrated to their birthplace. Compared to the late 19-century censuses, the herds have fallen to 2011, but none of the ethnics and confessions have completely disappeared. The statistical data used were taken from the literature mentioned during the work and on the online platform of the National Institute of Statistics. The geographic information systems were used to achieve the geographical position map at the county and national level of the Petroşani Depression.

The article covers the antithesis of positive and negative knowledge and its projection on the field of language. By the example of the Sermon on the Mount, the thesis of non-discursive nature of word and its contrasting to speech is affirmed. In connection with the antithesis under consideration, such questions of phenomenology are addressed as embodiment of meaning in a word, essential irrelevance of existing institutions and instances of the language. Distinction is made between authentic appeal and institutional methods of identification presented in nominal discourse.

In the spotlight of the author there is a Confession of Mikhail Bakunin that is the unique personal, historical and political document. The letter was created by the prisoner of the Petropavlovsk fortress, state prisoner, and in the past one of the most committed Russian philosophers-Hegelians on the demand of the emperor Nikolay I. In the article it is considered: 1) an idea of Slavic unity, as it was understood by the Russian radical thinker; it was aimed to complete the destruction of all existing empires where Slavs lived: Ottoman, Austrian, Russian; and create the Great free Slavic federation on their ruins, with the capital in Constantinople; 2) the problems, considered by Bakunin in connection with organization and realization of the First Slavic Congress in Prague in 1848 (prehistory, cultural constituent, structure, lay-out of political forces and interests, fight of parties, national opposition); 3) the negative attitude of Bakunin towards modern Russia and her claims on all-Slavic domination; as well as the general negative opinion about the Congress.

Taking up the value of confessio iudicialis for declaring a marriage null and voit, the author begins his reflections with a look at different forms of declarations of the parties. From the point of view of marriage validity, of special significance is also the analysis of confessio iudicialis in the Code of Canon Law from 1917 and 1983. The last part of the author’s reflections is devoted to the analysis of new canon 1678 of the Code of Canon Law, declaring in Pope’s Francis Mitis Iudex Dominus Iesus.
Prawodawca w Kodeksie Prawa Kanonicznego z roku 1983, w sprawach o stwierdzenie nieważności małżeństwa, oddaje do dyspozycji sądów kościelnych cztery podstawowe środki dowodowe. Jednym z nich są oświadczenia stron. Przyznanie się sądowe, będące jednym z oświadczeń stron, nabiera nowego wymiaru w świetle przepisów zawartych w Liście Apostolskim Ojca Świętego Franciszka Mitis Iudex Dominus Iesus, obowiązujących od 8 grudnia 2015 r. Przepisy zawarte w Mitis Iudex Dominus Iesus Ojca Świętego Franciszka nie zmieniają rozumienia środka dowodowego, jakim jest confessio iudicialis, ani też nie dokonują zmian co do jej stosowania w aspekcie proceduralnym. Wprowadzają natomiast istotną zmianę co jej wartości dowodowej w procesie o stwierdzenie nieważności małżeństwa czyli uściślają walor dowodowy sądowego przyznania się i oświadczeń stron procesowych. Zgodnie, bowiem, z kan. 1678 § 1 Mitis Iudex Dominus Iesus w sprawach o nieważność małżeństwa przyznanie się sądowe oraz oświadczenia stron, poparte ewentualnymi zeznaniami świadków potwierdzającymi ich wiarygodność, mogą mieć pełną wartość dowodową, którą winien ocenić sędzia, po dokładnym rozważeniu wszystkich wskazówek i poszlak, chyba że pojawiają się inne elementy, które je obalają. W świetle Mitis Iudex Dominus Iesus zeznania świadków potwierdzających wiarygodność strony powodowej lub pozwanej nabiera zupełnie nowego wymiaru. Potwierdzenie, bowiem, wiarygodności strony przez zeznających w procesie świadków jest elementem wystarczającym do nadania przyznaniu się sądowemu lub innemu oświadczeniu strony mocy dowodu pełnego.

Nowadays there is plenty of fears according to the practice of individual confession of sins in the sacrament of penance. The sense of sin is disappearing which effects with lack of need to attend to the sacrament of penance. Despite those unfavourable tendencies of European culture many faithful still confess themselves. The secret of confession called “the sacramental seal” (sigillum sacramentale) is inseparably linked with this sacrament. This article describes rules of law contained by Code of Canon Law from 1983 and Code of Eastern Catholic Churches which, in clear and precise way describe the range of sigillum and secretum, as well as show subjects obliged to keep them along with the source of this obligation. The seal of sacrament is inviolable and absolute to that extent, that the minister not only cannot reveal the penitent and his sins to others, but also he must not use the knowledge acquired in the confession. Besides catholic discipline of penance, the article contains a try to describe the practice of penance in Churches and ecclesial communities not being in unity with the Holy See. The article presents also the teaching and law of the Orthodox Church and the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession according to penance, expiation and practice of confession and absolution.
Współcześnie istnieje wiele obaw i lęków wobec praktyki indywidualnego wyznawania grzechów w sakramencie pokuty. Zanika poczucie grzechu, co skutkuje brakiem potrzeby przystępowania do sakramentu pokuty i pojednania. Mimo tych niesprzyjających tendencji europejskiej kultury wiele osób wierzących korzysta nadal z tego sakramentu. Z sakramentem pokuty nierozerwalnie związana jest tajemnica spowiedzi nazywana „pieczęcią sakramentalną” (sigillum sacramentale). Artykuł opisuje normy prawne zawarte w Kodeksie Prawa Kanonicznego z 1983 r. oraz Kodeksie Katolickich Kościołów Wschodnich, które w jasny i jednoznaczny sposób określają zakres sigillum i secretum oraz wskazują podmioty zobowiązane do ich zachowania, a także źródła tego zobowiązania. Tajemnica sakramentalna jest nienaruszalna, absolutna do tego stopnia, iż szafarz sakramentu nie tylko nie może zdradzić penitenta i jego grzechów wobec osób trzecich, ale również zabrania się mu korzystania z wiadomości, które pozyskał w związku ze sprawowaniem sakramentu pokuty. Oprócz dyscypliny pokutnej wyznania katolickiego artykuł zawiera próbę ujęcia praktyki pokutnej w Kościołach i wspólnotach eklezjalnych niebędących w jedności ze Stolicą Apostolską. W artykule przedstawiono naukę i przepisy prawne Kościoła prawosławnego i Kościoła Ewangelicko-Augsburskiego na temat pokuty, sposobów jej odprawiania oraz praktyki wyznania grzechów i rozgrzeszenia.

Opis:
Confession, understood as confession and forgiveness of sins, is one of the most interesting phenomena of the church. The article presents the results of research concerning the confession at the time of the Reformation, theology of the Lutheran symbolical books in particular. The dynamics of Luther’s and Melanchthon’s theological reflection on the role, form and the person of the administrator of confession was shown. Confession’s functions as a necessary condition for preparing the believers for participation in the Lord’s Supper and a significant factor in pastoral work were also brought into focus. The author reminds that the Reformation restored the rite of general confession to the church, without resigning from the individual confession, the course of which was reconstructed based on the “Small Catechism” and Lutheran iconography from the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century.

The aim of this paper is to consider how a priest could contribute to the healing of those who are burdened with the crime of induced abortion. The response of the Catholic Church towards this issue, throughout the centuries, deserves to be discussed on the basis of some relevant facts. The topic concerns not only moral theology and canon law but it is also the object of research of modern psychology. A confessor, confronted with procured abortion, should reflect seriously on which type of penance will be a real spiritual medicine for his penitent. This study would like to present some examples. It reflects the actual status quo in some selected dioceses concerning the forum internum. The paper will conclude with some proposals to address such situations.

Artykuł jest próbą przedstawienia stosunku Michela Foucaulta do fenomenu kultury i religii, a zwłaszcza ich wpływu na funkcjonowanie XX-wiecznych państw i zachodnich społeczeństw. Interpretacja opiera się na współczesnej anglosaskiej myśli społecznej i religijnej, gdyż jest ona mniej znana i spopularyzowana w centralnej Europie, zaś nie mniej ciekawa niż tradycyjne ujęcie wywodzące się z Europy kontynentalnej. Krytyczna analiza Foucaulta pomaga nam zrozumieć trzy aspekty religijnego aktywizmu: samozaprzeczenia, aktualnego wizerunku seksualności jako dominującej formy tożsamości publicznej oraz społecznych aspiracji względem tworzenia nowej jakości wspólnoty społecznej.
This article studies Foucault’s approach to culture and religion and shows their implications on modern states and societies. Especially Christianity plays a major role in establishing new social and political order by using confession as a main tool. Foucault’s critical analysis aims at emphasizing a basic core of three areas of religious activism: self-denial, sexuality and community. This article is mainly based on anglo saxon interpretation and literature as it is not a well-known way of adapting Foucault’s thought to continental European philosophy.
