While life and death are universal categories of human cognition and culture, the set of images associated with it is affected by ethnicity. These categories are not always identical and may vary from one ethnic culture to another. This article presents the images of linguistic personalities related to life and death as reflected in the opinions of speakers of the sub-dialects of northern Russia.

Language and Culture: Ethnic and Cultural Self-Identification (using dialect speech of a polyethnic region). The article analyses the utterances of dialect speakers from the perspective of language reflection. The issues of ethnic, cultural and linguistic self-identification embedded in the traditional speech culture of the inhabitants of the Omsk region are studied through the prism of the opposition us – them. The speakers of various dialect types in the Middle Irtysh region realise their ethnic and cultural belonging, however, simultaneously they perceive themselves as Siberians. This is true also for bilingual respondents (Czechs, belarusians, Ukrainians, etc.).
В статье анализируются высказывания диалектоносителей с точки зрения языковой рефлексии. Сквозь призму оппозиции свой чужой рассматриваются вопросы этнической и куль- турно-языковой идентификации, воплощённые в традиционной речевой культуре сельских жителей Омского региона. Носители разнотипных говоров Среднего Прииртышья осознают свою этническую и культурную принадлежность, однако одновременно все считают себя сибиряками, включая и двуязычных респондентов (чехов, белорусов, украинцев и др.).

Opis:
Bishop A. Canova made an attempt to make his text accessible not only to the Catholics in Bulgaria; it includes also the consonants v, f and h, typically missing in the dialect of the Catholics. And yet the appearance of the new vocal i (replacing the accented è), typical of the Catholics, is limited (to 11 words/16 forms): cetìmi ‘четèмe/we are reading’; lizzito ‘лицèто/the face’; nimasce ‘нямаше/there was not’, obricese ‘oбрече се/he promised’, porimnuvam ‘поревнувам/I like’, rastiti ‘растèте/you are growing’, sledini ‘следèне/following’, smilat ‘смèлят/they are trampling’, tij ‘това/that’, viki ‘веки/already’, zovise ‘зовè се/they call it’. The appearance of the vowel е in place of a vocal a in the adverb delèc ‘далèко/far’ and in the adjective delecni ‘далечни/distant’ is also noteworthy. Of equal importance is the dialect form se, which appears in the place of the literary sa ([Cyr. ca] ‘(they) are’. All these phonetic features are indisputable evidence that the studied text is built mainly on the basis of the dialect spoken by the Catholics.

Opis:
The article touches upon the problem of Ukrainian-Polish musical contacts in the context of the cultural diversity of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. It is confirmed that the complexity of the topic lies in the need to comprehend two different cultural traditions and their contexts, as well as in an attempt to discover the true structures of these relationships. It is noted that the defining feature of Ukrainian-Polish cultural relations in the first half of the nineteenth century were not professional contacts between Polish and Ukrainian music, but the connection of culture with culture and Polish music with Ukrainian culture. The result of these contacts was the use of Ukrainian folklore by Polish composers. Particular attention in the article is drawn to the fact that the Galician burgher culture formed the same lifestyle and common values, and was also a homogenizing factor among the heterogeneous population of the region. This gives grounds to speak of the existence of a layer of musical unconscious common to the peoples of Galicia, which was spontaneously used in the then composer’s practice. It was borrowed mainly from German and Polish cultures, which music, due to certain circumstances became an integral part in the system of musical thinking of Galician amateur composers. In this context, the patriotic choral works of Ukrainian music by M. Verbytsky are considered, in which he often uses intonations and rhythms borrowed from the Polish music.
