    On 21 November 2014 the Conference of PhD and students of the Institute of History and International Relations UPH took place in Siedlce. The conference was organized very well and 21 students and doctorals attended to it. Participants presented the results of their historical research. Hopefully, the conference will be held next academic year.

    Opis:
    The subject of the analysis is German and Soviet military operations in the southern sector of the eastern front, with a particular emphasis on the role of rivers and the Black Sea, during these operations. The time frame of the paper includes the beginning of Operation Barbarossa, in June 1941, until the capture of the Crimean peninsula by the Wehrmacht, in July 1942. The article begins with an attempt of defining concepts relevant for further study of the issues mentioned in the title. The role of the Black Sea and its watercourses is discussed and the fact that they played a very important role as defensive lines of the Red Army. The German army showed its huge military potential when crossing rivers. Military operations performed at the Black Sea became an integral element of the fights in the southern sector of the eastern front. The means of warfare involved as well as human and material losses may indicate a ruthlessness of the fighting and importance of the Black Sea theatre of war. Efforts and dedication of the both warring sides in the area of the Black Sea made history.

    Opis:
    The aim of the authors is a definite description selected issues constituting the history of the military formations existing in 1915–1917, which was the Third Brigade of the Polish Legions. On the basis of archival materials and scientific literature, the authors show the constitution of this unit, which played an important role in the struggle for Polish independence during the I World War. The construction of this study was preceded by an initial consideration, which includes in its shortened form of both aspects of the purely military and political background related with the struggle of the Polish Legions character. Next, the authors present the conditioning of the formation of 4 Infantry Regiment. The continuation of this logic is to consider the structure of the 6 Infantry Regiment. The rest of the authors complement resume closer: cavalry, artillery, command posts and the Third Brigade. At the end of the exhaust conclusions fragmented.
