    The author of the article focuses on the technological development of Japan and assessing her international position in that field. He argues that Japan could achieve a position of technological leader in the world thanks to an adroit and supporting policy of the state and a devotion of enterprises toward the technological development. But in current, more complicated domestic and external economic circumstances, the leading position of the country starts to be threatened. Because of growing competition from new rivals, mainly Asian, old leaders should adjust to the new situation. This means that in some fields of technology also Japan will lose her advantages.

    Opis:
    The author of the article focused on a FDI development in South Korea in the years 1998-2012. Analysis of statistical data shows that the value of investments has increased significantly, especially in the first years of the period under scrutiny. Then, in parallel with the general downturn of the global economy, investments in Korea decreased, and in the following years their value fluctuated at a rela- tively high level. Despite the increase in the FDI inflows, their importance for the Korean economy still remains small. This is in conflict with the intentions of governments that since 1998 have been pursuing an active policy of encouraging investors to involve in South Korea.

    The subject of this study is the economic changes in East Asia that took place after the Asian financial crisis (1997). The largest economies in the region, Japan and China, are competing for economic primacy which would allow them to better realize their own set of preferences. China has challenged the existing economic leader – Japan, quite successfully gaining preeminent positions in various areas of the region’s economy. This paper presents changes taking place in basic spheres of economic activities of countries, namely: production, foreign trade and FDI flows. The author, using the descriptive method and the method of analysis, interpretation and inference based on statistical data, positively validates the hypothesis of China’s increasingly prevalent economic role over Japan in East Asia after the Asian crisis. The analysis covers the timespan 1997–2015.

    Opis:
    The author examines the development of economic ties between Japan and the European Union in the years 2007–2014. Trade and investment relations but also foreign economic policy pursued by Japan towards the European partner are evaluated from the Japanese perspective. The formulated thesis on decreasing economic importance of the European Union for Japan is confirmed but mainly in the sphere of trade links. In the area of investment, the EU is still a significant partner for Japan. In the author’s opinion, Japanese economic policy should be pursued more actively, and not as a response to the initiatives taken by other entities.

    The author of the paper has focused on the Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Korea, which came into force on 1 July 2011. The Agreement is the first concluded by the European Union with an Asian country and also, so far, it has the highest degree of complexity. In his research, the author concentrates on the presentation of changes in trade policies of both partners toward preferential trade arrangements (PTA), but he also describes most important provisions of the agreement on the liberalization of industrial goods, agricultural products and services.

    Przedmiotem opracowania jest proces wschodnioazjatyckiego regionalizmu rozpatrywany z perspektywy Chin. Założonym celem jest charakterystyka, analiza i ocena roli Chińskiej Republiki Ludowej w inicjatywach regionalnej integracji gospodarczej de iure. Weryfikowana jest teza mówiąca o tym, że Chiny są nie tylko centrum gospodarczym regionu Azji Wschodniej, ale stają się również liderem integracji instytucjonalnej. Główne metody badawcze wykorzystane w opracowaniu to przegląd literatury przedmiotu oraz metoda opisowa.
    The article considers the process of regionalism in East Asia from the China’s point of view. The aim of the article was to characterize, analysis and assess the role of the People's Republic of China in de iure regional economic initiatives. It is hypothesized that China is not only the economic center of East Asia but it is also becoming a leader of institutional integration. Main research methods used in the article comprise review of the literature and descriptive method.

    Opis:
    In 2004–2018, Central European countries experienced significant structural changes that affected the labour market as well. These included an increase in the activity rate and a decrease in unemployment, a growing share of those employed in the services sector and increased flexibility of employment. The main focus of the paper is on the developments in the V4 countries’ labour markets in comparison to more general trends in the European Union and global economy. The aim was to investigate the impact of two determinants of the changes: technological progress and structural transformations of the economy. The results of the analysis revealed that trends in the V4 countries were not always concurrent with the more widespread tendencies, e.g. the shift in the share of various sectors in total employment was consistent with the general trend, while in the case of under-employment or share of part-time employment, the V4 situation varied.
    Kraje Europy Środkowej w latach 2004–2018 doświadczyły istotnych zmian strukturalnych, które dotyczyły również rynku pracy. Polegały one na wzroście stopy aktywności zawodowej i spadku bezrobocia, wzroście udziału pracujących w sektorze usługowym i uelastycznieniu rynku pracy. Przedmiotem analizy są zmiany zachodzące na rynku pracy krajów Europy Środkowej w latach 2004–2018 na tle krajów Unii Europejskiej i gospodarki światowej. Zbadano również wpływ dwóch czynników, które w ostatnich latach miały kluczowe znaczenie w procesie zmian: przeobrażeń strukturalnych w gospodarce i postępu technologicznego. Przeprowadzona analiza pokazała, że zmiany zachodzące w krajach Europy Środkowej nie zawsze były zbieżne z bardziej powszechnymi tendencjami, np. zmiana udziału poszczególnych sektorów w zatrudnieniu ogółem była zgodna z ogólną tendencją, natomiast w przypadku niepełnego zatrudnienia lub pracy w niepełnym wymiarze godzin sytuacja krajów Europy Środkowej była odmienna.
